Abstract

Background: Operating-room nurses face continuous physical, mental, time-related, and responsibility demands that may predispose them to occupational fatigue, yet the extent to which workload relates to fatigue in this high-risk perioperative setting remains insufficiently documented at the local level. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between workload and occupational fatigue among nurses in the Operating Room Installation of Dr. Etik Asharto Hospital, Batu City. Methods: A quantitative correlational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 15 operating-room nurses selected through total sampling. Workload was measured using the NASA Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) and occupational fatigue was measured using the Fatigue Assessment Scale (FAS). Univariate analysis used descriptive statistics, and bivariate analysis used Spearman's rank correlation test. Results: Most nurses had a high workload (46.7%), followed by very high workload (40.0%) and moderately high workload (13.3%); no nurse reported low or moderate workload. The highest mean NASA-TLX dimension was frustration (73.53 ± 15.21). Most nurses experienced extreme fatigue (73.3%), while 26.7% experienced fatigue; none reported being free of fatigue. Spearman's rank correlation showed a strong, positive, and statistically significant relationship between workload and occupational fatigue (rₛ = 0.704; p = 0.003; n = 15). Conclusion: Workload is strongly and significantly associated with occupational fatigue among operating-room nurses. Hospitals are encouraged to periodically evaluate workload distribution, shift patterns, staffing adequacy, and rest periods to reduce the risk of nurse fatigue.

Abstract

Background: Acute appendicitis is among the most common causes of acute abdominal surgery and is managed through appendectomy. Postoperative pain is a primary complaint that may affect patients' sleep quality during recovery, and poor sleep quality can hinder healing and increase the risk of postoperative complications. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between post-appendectomy pain and sleep quality among surgical patients at Bhayangkara Hasta Brata Batu Hospital. Methods: A quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was used, involving 22 respondents selected through total sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Pain was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), while sleep quality was measured using the Richards-Campbell Sleep Questionnaire (RCSQ). Data were analyzed using Spearman's Rho correlation test. Results: Most respondents experienced moderate pain (40.9%) and had good sleep quality (40.9%). The statistical test obtained a correlation coefficient (r) of -0.962 with a significance value (p) of 0.000 (p<0.01). Conclusion: There is a significant and very strong negative relationship between post-appendectomy pain and sleep quality; the higher the pain intensity, the lower the sleep quality achieved. Health care providers are advised to implement adequate pain management to support improved sleep quality in post-appendectomy patients.

Abstract

The issue of developmental disorders in children remained unresolved year after year. Early detection of child growth and development was essential, particularly in early childhood education. However, this effort was still hindered by teachers’ lack of confidence in using KPSP and the lack of practical tools. Objective: To develop web-based micro-learning tools with animated videos for the early detection of child growth and development. Data were collected through interviews, expert validation, and limited pilot testing. Results:User needs were identified, including manual detection practices, challenges with uncooperative children, unresponsive parents, and limited teacher knowledge. The design and development process resulted in a responsive website and an animated video lasting 6 minutes and 30 seconds. Content expert validation reached 98.6% (Highly Acceptable), while media expert validation reached 94.4% (Highly Acceptable). The teacher pilot test showed that 100% of the items were acceptable. Conclusion:The web-based micro-learning media with animated videos was considered highly suitable for the early detection of child development in early childhood education

Abstract

Background: Nursing care is the health service most directly connected to inpatients, since nurses interact with patients around the clock throughout treatment and recovery. Hospital service success depends heavily on nurse performance, yet complaints regarding slow responsiveness, inadequate communication, and lapses in nursing care documentation remain common in inpatient settings, raising questions about how performance translates into patient satisfaction. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nurse performance and patient satisfaction in the inpatient ward of Dr. Etty Asharto Regional General Hospital, Batu City. Methods: A cross-sectional design was employed. The independent variable was nurse performance and the dependent variable was patient satisfaction. Using purposive sampling, 36 nurses and 48 inpatients meeting the inclusion criteria were recruited. Data were collected using validated Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed with Spearman's rank correlation test. Results: Most nurses (80.5%) demonstrated good performance and most patients (70.8%) reported being very satisfied with nursing care. The Spearman correlation test showed a significant relationship between nurse performance and patient satisfaction (p = 0.002; p < 0.05), although the correlation coefficient (0.189) indicated a very weak strength of association. Conclusion: Nurse performance is significantly, though weakly, associated with inpatient satisfaction, indicating that performance alone does not fully account for variation in how satisfied patients feel. Hospitals are encouraged to complement performance management with communication and time-management training to strengthen patient-centered inpatient care.
