Abstract

Purpose: to analyze the dynamics and trends of the Food Security Index (FSI) across six provinces in Sulawesi during 2019–2025 and to interpret the observed variations from a regional agro-economic perspective. Method: this study employed a quantitative approach using secondary data on the Food Security Index (FSI) for six provinces in Sulawesi during 2019–2025, obtained from the National Food Agency. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis to classify FSI levels and trend analysis to identify annual changes in food security conditions. Findings: food security across the six provinces in Sulawesi fluctuated during 2019–2025, with a notable decline in 2025. North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and South Sulawesi all experienced declines in FSI in 2025, although their overall food-security levels remained within the “Secure” or “Highly Secure” categories. These findings indicate that regional food security is not determined solely by food production but is also associated with economic access, distribution, purchasing power, and the resilience of regional food systems. Implications: food-security policies in Sulawesi should integrate production, distribution, market access, purchasing power, and food utilization through region-specific strategies. Originality: lies in interpreting Food Security Index dynamics across six Sulawesi provinces through an integrated regional agro-economic perspective, linking temporal changes in food security with production, access, distribution, and household economic conditions.

Abstract

Purpose: to analyze cayenne pepper price volatility, market integration and price transmission, and marketing efficiency, and to examine their implications for farmer income risk in Gorontalo Province's cayenne pepper agribusiness. Method: this study used a narrative literature review of scientific publications and analyzed them thematically around price volatility, market integration, marketing efficiency, farmer income risk, and agribusiness development. Findings: cayenne pepper prices in Gorontalo are highly volatile, while marketing efficiency varies across supply-chain actors. Although markets are relatively integrated, price transmission is not always complete or symmetrical. These conditions increase farmers' exposure to price, production, and marketing risks, potentially resulting in unstable farm income. Implications: Gorontalo's cayenne pepper agribusiness requires integrated policies focusing on price stabilization, transparent market information, stronger farmer institutions, efficient marketing channels, and improved post-harvest management to reduce farmer income risk and strengthen agribusiness resilience. Originality: lies in integrating price volatility, market integration, marketing efficiency, and farmer income risk into a single analytical framework for the cayenne pepper agribusiness in Gorontalo Province.

Abstract

Purpose: to examine the effects of digital innovation, halal certification, and pentahelix collaboration on MSME competitiveness and to analyze their indirect effects on halal culinary tourism destination development through MSME competitiveness. Method: this study used a quantitative explanatory approach, with a cross-sectional survey of 150 culinary MSMEs in Semarang City, Indonesia, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using PLS-SEM with SmartPLS to assess the measurement model and test the hypothesized direct and indirect relationships. Findings: digital innovation, halal certification, and pentahelix collaboration positively influence MSME competitiveness, which in turn contributes positively to halal culinary tourism destination development. Furthermore, MSME competitiveness significantly mediates the relationships between these three factors and destination development, highlighting the importance of integrating digital capabilities, halal assurance, and stakeholder collaboration to strengthen culinary MSMEs and support sustainable halal culinary tourism. Implications: the importance of digital innovation, halal certification, and stakeholder collaboration in strengthening MSME competitiveness and halal culinary tourism development. Originality: lies in integrating digital innovation, halal certification, and pentahelix collaboration into a unified framework, positioning MSME competitiveness as a mediating mechanism for halal culinary tourism destination development.

Abstract

Purpose: to examine the effects of digital transformation and entrepreneurial orientation on tourism MSME performance in Semarang City, Indonesia, with competitive advantage serving as a mediating variable. Method: this study employed a quantitative explanatory approach using a cross-sectional survey of 200 tourism MSME owners or managers in Semarang City, Indonesia, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analysed using PLS-SEM in SmartPLS 4 to evaluate the measurement model and test the proposed hypotheses. Findings: digital transformation and entrepreneurial orientation positively influence tourism MSME performance and competitive advantage. Competitive advantage also positively affects business performance and partially mediates the relationships between digital transformation, entrepreneurial orientation, and MSME performance. These findings highlight the importance of integrating digital capabilities and entrepreneurial strategies to strengthen competitive advantage and improve tourism MSME performance. Implications: integrating digital capabilities and entrepreneurial strategies can strengthen competitive advantage and improve tourism MSME performance. Originality: lies in integrating digital transformation and entrepreneurial orientation to explain tourism MSME performance, with competitive advantage serving as a mediating mechanism.
