<![CDATA[The present study was aimed at identifying the types and function of code-mixing and switching used by Facebookers. This study was designed as a qualitative study. There were 50 Facebook accounts were observed in this study. The results showed that alternation code mixing was mostly used by Facebookers. A mix language between English and Indonesian was identified in their caption of Facebook wall. The functions of code-switching and code-mixing are 50 data, some of the data, namely 26 data, have code-switching with from 26 data code-switching there are 18 personalization and objectivization and 7 facilities of expression and 1 message qualification. And 50 data code-mixing with details of 31 data personalization objectivization and 12 data facility of expression and 5 data message qualification and 2 data repetition.]]>

<![CDATA[The objective of this research was to find out the students’ perspective toward reading Al-Quran as a punishment for belated students in EFL classroom. The researcher employed descriptive qualitative research design to analyze the students’ perspective regarding with reading Al-Qur’an as punishment for belated students in EFL classroom. The participant of this research was the EFL students of Manajemen Informatika in academic year 2019/2020 at STMIK Handayani Makassar. The researcher chose 12 students as a sample of this research randomly. The instrument of this research was self-report questionnaire. The result showed that applying reading Al-Qur’an as a punishment for belated students in EFL classroom is very well to be applied because a lot of perspectives of the students illustrate a positive views regarding with the application of this kind of punishment. This punishment is educative punishment because of able to motivate the students for not coming late, train the students to be discipline, make the students are getting closer with Al-Qur’an in their life and getting the rewards. Hopefully, this kind of punishment can be applied by the teachers to educate the students for not coming late in the classroom.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aimed at: a) analyzing the types of code-mixing used by Indonesian top selebgram in social media in product endorsement; b) analyzing the reasons of code-mixing used by Indonesian top selebgram on her captions in product endorsement; c) analyzing the language used by the Indonesian top selebgram in product endorsement through her captions on Instagram. The sample of this study was a female selebgram namely Karin Novilda or well-known as @awkarin. The subject was chosen through purposive sampling who tend to use code-mixing within her posts in promoting product endorsement. The data were gathered through observation check-list which consisted of Instagram post including picture, date of posting, and captions from March to August 2021. The results indicated that, first, the most dominant type of code-mixing used was insertion; second, the most dominant reasons of the use of code-mixing was talking about particular topic; and third, directive speech acts appeared dominantly as the characteristics of the language in form of command, suggestion, invitation and also feeling expression of the subject. These findings have important contribution to see how the use of code-mixing assisted the Indonesian top selebgram in doing product promotion.]]>

<![CDATA[This study discovered how the main character in The Complete Persepolis comic – Marjane Satrapi – negotiates her identity as a diaspora. This research employs the qualitative method as the technique to analyze the data. The collected data are presented in the form of pictures and texts related to the research objectives. Furthermore, the data were then analyzed using the theory of Hybridity. Based on the research findings, Marjane’s migration is the main cause of the emergence of her identity crisis. After her migration, she feels like her identity is divided into two different cultures; the culture from her homeland and the culture from where she migrated. However, Marjane eventually is able to negotiate her identity. She is aware of and accepts her in-between identity which resulted from an assimilation of both cultures.]]>

<![CDATA[The current research’s objective was to analyze the effect of Pattern Technique on the seventh grade students’ writing competency across text types in the Junior High School. This research used Two-Control-Group Experimental Design with a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement. The research population included all the seventh grade students in Sekolah Menengah Pertama Widya Sakti Denpasar. Two classes were sampled randomly selected and randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. Data on the students’ writing competency was collected by means of writing performance assessment as the only instrument. Data were analyzed firstly descriptively using measures of central tendency and dispersion. Further analysis was conducted inferentially using One-Way ANOVA. The research findings showed that Pattern Technique had significant effect on the seventh grade students’ descriptive and recount writing competency (F-ratio=41.228; Fcv=0.01). The Pattern Technique effected differently on the students’ writing competency when they wrote descriptive and Recount texts. The research findings implied the necessity to provide EFL learning processes with an effective tool, so that the students have a scaffolding or a pattern in describing and narrating people, animals, objects, experiences, accidents, or incidents etc. It also implied to the EFL teachers to minimize dominance in the learning processes and resort to students’ creativity and involvement.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aimed to investigate the implementation of Google Classroom to teach writing and the students‟ opinions towards the writing instruction through Google Classroom. This was a qualitative study that used interviews and questionnaires to collect the data. The sample of this study was an English teacher and 60 eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Mengwi in the academic year 2021/2022. The results of teacher interviews and the results of student questionnaires were collected and then analyzed descriptively. The result of this study indicated that 1) the teacher at SMPN 1 Mengwi conducted several steps in implementing Google Classroom to teach writing, including opening the class, conducting a main activity, conducting an assessment, closing the lesson, and conducting follow-up activities, 2) the students had positive opinions towards the writing instruction that was implemented through Google Classroom.]]>

<![CDATA[Learning activities in the classroom are considered successful if the teacher works professionally so that teaching and learning activities run smoothly and the knowledge transferred can be well received by students. Learning English in various elementary schools is still experiencing obstacles in the form of the failure of students to enjoy learning taught by English teachers. Professional English teachers should be able to make the learning process in class fun so that students are not afraid of English subjects. This study aims to analyze the professionalism of English teachers at Bilingual Elementary School Muhammadiyah 1 Purwodadi. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with data collection methods using questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The results of the study indicate that ER as an English teacher has carried out a professional teaching process where she facilitates learning in the classroom optimally by applying various teaching elements (learning methods, learning models, and learning media) properly and correctly. The conclusion of this research is that teachers are able to work professionally because they receive support from various parties (principals, parents, and students). The professionalism of the English teacher at Bilingual Elementary School Muhammadiyah 1 Purwodadi is shown by her ability to make lesson plans that are structured based on her understanding of the character of the students she teaches. By understanding the character of students, she is able to choose various teaching elements (learning methods, learning models, and evaluations) to be included in the lesson plan so that she is able to make learning in class fun.]]>

<![CDATA[Becoming fluent in English is one of the vital predictors determining successful language learning. Empirically, the lack of effective instructional media employed by English teachers often hindered students from achieving this goal. Integrating technology into English language learning is one solution to overcome these issues. The present study reviewed the integration of YouTube as instructional media in promoting EFL students’ speaking skills. This study was a literature review following Aveyard's design by selecting journal articles published in reputable journals over the past five years used as the data sources for this study. The review revealed many benefits and opportunities obtained by integrating YouTube as instructional media in promoting EFL students’ speaking skills both for teachers and students. The study concludes that YouTube is effective instructional media that can promote students’ speaking skills, including 21st-century learning skills in the EFL classroom.]]>

<![CDATA[The implementation of Gamification within the teaching and learning process has increased significantly in 21st-century learning. The involvement of Gamification has been proven to increase students' learning interest in the EFL context, especially in improving students' basic skills, speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Wordwall is one of the gamification platforms that can create a more joyful learning situation to improve students' interest, especially in reading skills. The integration of Wordwall within the teaching and learning process is believed to increase students' reading interest since it has various features that can create new learning material innovation. This paper aims to discover the characteristics of Wordwall and its benefits as a learning media to increase students reading interest. Besides it being proven beneficial, the integration of Wordwall as the learning media also acquired positive responses from the students.]]>

<![CDATA[The aims of this research were to investigate the students’ motivation in learning EFL through zoom cloud meeting platform and the influence of zoom cloud meeting platform towards the existing students’ motivation in learning EFL. This research was adopted a descriptive qualitative research design. Two instruments were employed by the researcher to gather the data, namely self-report questionnaire and semi-structured interview with open-ended question. The informants were the students of higher education in south Sulawesi, Indonesia. The data were analyzed by transcribing, coding, reducing, translating into English and analyzing the data based on the points of research questions. The results of this research are as follow: Students’ motivation in learning EFL through zoom cloud meeting platform is the range of moderately until highly motivated. It is suggested to the students that learning English through zoom cloud meeting to keep arousing their motivation whatever the condition is and also the teachers should pay attention with the necessary of the students and improve the effective or suitable method in teaching EFL through this application. The influence of employing zoom cloud meeting platform towards the existing students’ motivation are balanced because among 12 informants, six informants feel that zoom cloud meeting platform doesn’t influence their existing motivation in learning EFL with various reason such as the error of network and the difficulty to comprehend the materials in the process of learning by using zoom cloud meeting. Besides, six informants also stated that it influences their motivation with many kinds of reason such as the materials are difficult to comprehend because the interaction is limited, some technical disruptions occur in the learning process. Whatever the learning condition, the students should not be influenced their motivation in learning EFL to achieve their goals.]]>
