Abstract

ABSTRACT Measurement of torque and performance of traction wheel is generally employed a device of big soil bin. The device however is not to be employed as a leaming media in the classroom scale. Development the model of soil bin to measure tourque and performance of traction wheel, wich can be used in the classroom, is necessary, in order to gain effective and simplicity for learning systtem. Development of the model can be designed by decreasing the dimension of the bin to be smaller, whereas the main component and the shape of the bin are remaining the same, and by the development are needed, i.e.: 1) type of contact surface made of sandy loam soil, rubber, and iron plate, 2) dynamic loade of wheel of 50 N, 100 N, and 150 N. Model of soil bin that will be developed will has a dimension of 1 m length, 0.4m widht, and 0.8 m height. The model suitable as a media of learning system in classroom scale for exploring the measurement method of torque and performance of traction wheel. The higher the dynamic wheel loads the more increasing the maximum torque. In results of the experiment, rubber give the more higher torque (0.53 N m) than torque resulted by soil (0.34 N m) and iron (0.21 N m). Keyword: soil bin, torque, traction, learning media system

Abstract

ABSTRACT The Government of Indonesia has developed groundwater irrigation schemes in some province e.g. East Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, Wast Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara. However, not all regions were able to optimally utilize it. The irrigation effeciency of groundwater irrigation scheme was about 59%, whe;; the wells-pumping efficiencies were varied from 28 to 98 %. In thefuture, the irrigation effieciency should be increased to anticipate water deficit during dry season. The application of trickle irrigation in indonesia has not been widely developed. Although trickle system has been used, however, it is still limited for few commercial agribusinesses. Trickle irrigation systems have a prospect to be developed in some regions having limited water resources. For preliminary stage, the systems could be applied in groundwater irrigation schemes that have been developed either by farmers or government. Abstract

ABSTRACT Pretreatment and packaging or rose cut flowers during stroage and transportation should be designed in order to keep its quality during vase life of the flowers. The objective of this study was to find out the pulsing solution and the design of packaging to prolong the vase life of the rose cut flowers. The flowers were harvested from Loji, Cipanas, when the flower was at two bud open stages. Before storage, the flowers were pulsed in the chemical solution of sucrose, glyserin, Na-benzoat and citric acid at different concentrations. Each 20  cuts of flower were placed in the boxes of 60 ´ 15 ´ 7 cm3with different ventilation system. The result showed that the pulsing solution with 3 % sucrose, 25% glyserin, 300 ppm Na-benzoat and 375 ppm citrit acid caused a signioficant decrease in the respiration rate and prolonged the vase life of the flowers. The  packaging model gave an effect of modified atmospheric environment inside the packaging and significantly affected the flower quality during stronge. The result suggested that the use of the packaging with the ventilation of 3.5 cm in diameter using polypropilene film would be suitable for rose cut flowers packaging during storage. The packaging model prolonged the vase lilfe of the flowers until 6 days after 5 days of storage and decreased the flowers senescene up to 20-25%. Abstract

Abstract An inverse method for measurement of thermal diffusivity has been developed. The inverse method was developoed based on finite difference method and an artifical neural network. The training data for the neural network was generated using a finite differnce of conduction heat transfer in agricultural products. The input to neural network was temperature distribusion of the agricultural products during haeting or cooling process. The output of the neural network was a thermal diffusivity. The developed inverse method has been applied to predict the thermal diffusivity of avocado, mango and seweet potato. The value of predicted thermal diffusivity was validated using a hot water treatment. The predicted temperature of finite difference using predicted thermal diffusivities were compared with the experimental tempurature distrubstion during hot water treatment. The results showed that the predicted tempuratures were closed to the experimental temperatures with error less than 5%. Abstract

Abstract The objective of this research was to determine if CO2 puffing process could be applied to indonesian vegetables which resulted in the largest increase in bulk specific volume (BSV) and rehydration ratio (RR). This reseach also was intended to reduce the residence time and CO2 pressure needed to puff the product. Several vegetables wich were common in the indonesian’s instant food were puffed dried using CO2 gas at the pressure of 3.72, 5.10 and 6.48 Mpa and residence time of  4 and 8 minutes and were then dried using a fluidized bed drier.this technology had successfully dried the carrot, potato, andSiamese squash cube with the size of 6x6x6 mm3, and green bean chunk in the length of 6 mm. The bulk specific volume and rehydration ratio of the sample tried were significantly higher than the hot air dried one (1.3 to 5 times for BSV and 1.2 to 5 for RR) and were 0.6 to 0.95times the freeze dried product. The residence time, and pressure used for puffing with CO2 could be reduced by soaking the semple into 2% Na2HPO4, moisture content of  40 to 50%, residence time of 4 to 8 minutes, and CO2 pressure of 5.10 to 6.48 Mpa. Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper presents the improvement of block system planning of irrigation water in cikarang area for optimization of the irrigation water distribution by using Genetic Algorithm. A genotype representation of spatial allocation was proposed: a fixed-length genotype composed of four genes that represent spatial allocation determined by greedy algorithm. The process of optimizing genotype includes evaluation, selection, crossover, and mutation,. Evaluation process determined the fitness of the genotype based on the distance of water sources, availability of irrigation water, labor, mechines and delay of harvesting opertion of last-season crop. Several types of selection, crossover and mutation were tested to obtain the best processing sequence for optimizing the genotype. This approach was comared to a real block system problem determined by Perum Jasa Tirta II and the adventages of the approach were identified. Keyword: representasi, Algoritma Genetik, Irigasi

Abstract

ABSTRACT In tropical region, greenhouses are built to protect plant from heavy rain and insects. However, climatic conditions in the tropics are often ignored by greenhouse designers. In such hot and humid environment, antural ventilation is the most important factors to be considered. There is no cost required to operate the natural ventilation, but it needs an accurate openings design. This paper deals with a modification analysis of the steep-type standard peak greenhouse where inside air temperature was very high. A computer program has been developed to calculate neutral pressure plane and natural ventilation rate. It was used in simulation to predict natural ventilation rate in five alternatives of modified and two alternatives of newly designed greendhouse. An alternative of modified greenhouse design was selected according to the highest natural ventilation rate at the lowest cost. Keyword:

Abstract

Abstract Sweet potato (Ipmoea batatas I.) is one the carbohydrate sources in indonesia that can be used both for food and industry purposes. To support the utilization of sweet potato as flour, it is imperative to develop a drying system that can improve its quality. A preliminary study using an improved variety, namely Sari, was conducted to determine its floure thermal diffusivity (a ),  an imprortant parameter in developing drying process. The experiment was run according to Dickerson method using sweet potato flour at different levels of moisture content (5.05-5.97% wet basis) and temperatures (23.7 -40.9 oC) this method  used an apparatus based on transient heat transfer condition requiring only a time- temperature data. At the levels of moisture and temperature studied, the thermal diffusivity of sweet potato flour could be expressed using a linear regression model, a= 10-9 M.T + 9X 10-9( R2=0.9779). the average value of the thermal diffusivity sweet potato flour was 1.72 x 10-7 m2/s at a moisture level of 5.51 % wet basis and temperature of 29.58 oC. Similar studies are needed for different varieties or cultivars of sweet potato as well at a wide range of moisture content and temperature content and temperature levels. Keyword: sweet potato flour, thermal diffusivity, Dickerson Method.
