The development of knowledge is a dialectic of social dynamics and knowledge itself, including theology. From there, various forms of knowledge emerged, eventually crystallizing into disciplines. One of them is hermeneutics, a field that can be simply understood as the science of interpretation. Initially, this science served as a prerequisite for deciphering religious texts that were considered final and sacred. That's why hermeneutics as a discipline is closely related to the world of theology, specifically the sub-discipline of theology that deals with methodology and authentication in the interpretation of Scripture in both the Christian and Jewish traditions. This article describes modern hermeneutics from the aspects of understanding, history, and its divisions into methodological, philosophical, and critical hermeneutics.

This paper aims to highlight the capacity of Imam al-Shafi’i as a hadith scholar, with a specific focus on his views regarding the status of hadith ahad and its use as evidence. Imam al-Shafi’i, as one of the prominent imams in Islamic history, made significant contributions to the development of hadith science and usul al-fiqh. His views on hadith ahad—i.e., hadiths narrated by only one or a few transmitters—are crucial for understanding the methodology of evaluating and accepting hadith within Islamic tradition. This study will outline Imam al-Shafi’i's perspective on the status of hadith ahad within the context of Islamic law and its acceptance as a valid source of legislation. Imam al-Shafi’i recognized the value of hadith ahad in certain situations and contexts, and his opinions often serve as a reference in determining whether hadith ahad can be used as a legal basis. The paper will also discuss how Imam al-Shafi’i assesses the evidentiary strength of hadith ahad and the principles he employs in evaluating its authenticity and authority. Through text analysis and historical interpretation, this study will explore Imam al-Shafi’i's contributions to the understanding of hadith ahad and its implications for Islamic legal practice. Additionally, it aims to highlight the relevance of Imam al-Shafi’i’s views in the modern context and how his perspectives can enrich hadith studies and contemporary Islamic legal applications. This paper is expected to provide deep insights into Imam al-Shafi’i’s position in hadith science and his role in establishing the criteria for accepting hadith ahad as evidence in Islamic law.

One form of the prevalent social phenomenon in recent times is fundamentalism. This article explores another form of fundamentalism that gives rise to radicalism, and even terrorism, which has been commonly associated with religion, hence termed religious fundamentalism. In Islam, fundamentalism is not purely a religious phenomenon but more of a social phenomenon taking on religious dimensions. Fundamentalism refers to religious movements that act radically to achieve their goals, claiming the authenticity of religious teachings. Accusing fundamentalists as the instigators of violence is unfair if we only blame religious fundamentalism; modernity also plays a role in the violence in the world. Both religious fundamentalism and modernity contribute to nurturing acts of violence. The main cause that spawns fundamentalism is social change.

Corruption in this country has spread to all sectors like an octopus. This deviation not only infiltrates areas that have been perceived by the public as nests of corruption but also delves into corridors of institutions that were previously unimaginable to have corruption. One by one, financial scandals in various state institutions have been uncovered. Even the General Election Commission (KPU), filled with democracy activists, academics, and professors, is not immune to the corruption epidemic. In the Department of Religion (Depag), corruption cases have even implicated its former top official as a suspect. This article attempts to uncover the roots of tradition and culture behind these deviations.
