Abstract

Membrane-based desorption of carbon dioxide (CO2) using a membrane contactor is considered a novel process for separating CO2 from solvents. It can be carried out using temperature regeneration, sweep gas, and vacuum method. In this work, the vacuum regeneration method is applied in the CO2 desorption process from 30% wt of diethanolamine (DEA) solution. This study investigates the effect of operating parameters such as liquid flowrate, vacuum pressure, and CO2 loading on the mass transfer rate and desorption efficiency of CO2. The highest mass transfer rate of 2.2013 × 10-7 mol/m2s is achieved at a liquid flowrate of 500 mL/min, CO2 loading of 0.27 mol CO2/mol DEA, and vacuum pressure of 50 cmHg while the maximum desorption efficiency of 71.45% is achieved at lower liquid flowrate of 100 mL/min, CO2 loading of 0.27 mol CO2/mol DEA, and vacuum pressure of 50 cmHg. The result demonstrates that membrane contactor is a promising method for the CO2 desorption process which requires further investigation.

Abstract

The inclusion of fly ash class C, which is widely available locally, can influence the progress of strength and durability qualities of geopolymer concrete when exposed to significant environmental conditions. Alternative geopolymer combinations appropriate for curing at ambient temperatures were employed to investigate the impacts of fly ash class C based geopolymer concrete. To react with fly ash class C, a combination of sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate alkaline activator was used. Fly ash class C was added as 20% of the total binder without using ordinary Portland cement. The durability of fly ash class C based geopolymer concrete in sulphate environments was tested. The changes in weight, length and compressive strength due to exposure in magnesium sulphate solution for different periods of time were determined. The test results demonstrate that fly ash class C based geopolymer concrete cured at normal temperatures has good resistance to sulphate attack. In general, inclusion of fly ash class C in geopolymer concrete improved strength and performed satisfactorily in sulphate environments when cured in ambient temperature.

Abstract

An absorption process can be carried out to reduce carbon dioxide gas emissions in the surrounding environment. Absorption is a contact process between a mixture of gas and liquid that aims to remove one of the gas components by dissolving it in a suitable liquid. In this study, the CO2 absorption process was carried out to determine the effect of CO2 flow rate on the amount of CO2 absorbed with NaOH absorbent. The results showed that the correlation between CO2 flow rate and absorption factor was inverse because an increase in CO2 flow rate caused the contact between CO2 gas and NaOH to decrease. As a result, the absorption factor decreased because the ratio of CO2 was greater than the absorbent. While the relationship between L/V and the absorption factor is directly proportional if the flow rate of the liquid increases, the retained liquid tends to saturate and can accelerate the diffusion of CO2 in the water, so the absorption factor also increases. In addition, after the absorption of CO2 gas, sodium carbonate is produced, which is the result of the reaction of CO2 with NaOH.

Abstract

In essence, data in real-life always needs to be pre-processed or better known as pre-processing data. Pre-processing Data is one of the early techniques for converting raw data from various sources into cleaner information that can be used for further analysis. There are three types of pre-processing data, missing values, checking outlier data, and identifying the types of distribution in the data. Currently, statistical software that offers to be used in pre-processing data analysis has been widely and is quite familiar. However, the user is often can not run the analysis quickly. Therefore, there is the idea to create and develop an application or dashboard that can be used to solve these problems. The application this at is offered and trying to be developed is called "DPD (Dashboard Pre-Processing Data)". This application serves as a tool to pre-process data quickly and efficiently. In addition, with this application, it’s expected that users can identify missing values, data outliers, and some types of data distribution, so users can determine the analysis method that will be used on the research data they have.

Abstract

Increasing electrical energy consumption causes problems because it produces greenhouse gas emissions. The problem is that the fuel used so far is not renewable. Carbon emissions can trigger global warming. Global warming causes the temperature on earth to increase, causing icebergs in the polar regions to melt and sea levels to rise. Efforts can be made to minimize this problem by transitioning to alternative energy, such as solar panels. Using solar panels as an energy source has an excellent opportunity to be implemented because Indonesia gets sunlight throughout the year. However, solar panels have drawbacks, such as surfaces that are difficult to clean, depending on location and weather conditions, and their installation requires a large area. Therefore, this research was conducted by designing smart window panels that are easy to apply on a household scale so that their effectiveness is known when implemented. The method used in this study is a simulation method using the PVsyst software. The simulation was carried out with a variable angle of installation of the smart window panel, 0°,30°,45°,60°, and 90°. The results showed that the best results were obtained from modules with an installation angle of 90° because the EfrGrid value was 19168 Kw/year and E_Solar was 104.28 Kw/year. Increasing the number of modules used can be done by using suitable inverters so that optimizing the use of smart window panels on the household scale can be done to reduce carbon emissions and achieve energy security in Indonesia.

Abstract

The number of deaths or fatalities due to accidents in Indonesia is increasing. In addition, traffic accidents can cause serious injuries such as damage to the skull. The bone implantation technique currently used is an autograft, but this technique has some limitations. This limitation of autograft can be overwhelmed with synthetic bone implants, one of which uses a mixture of Polycaprolactone (PCL) and Hydroxyapatite (HAp). A combination of HAp and PCL is recommended because the two materials complement each other's weaknesses and can increase elasticity and quality to produce suitable filaments for 3D printing processes. This study used hydroxyapatite from Kupang Shells by calcination and precipitation methods. Then do the test XRF, XRD, FTIR, and SEM to determine the quality. The results showed that HAp synthesized from Kupang Shells had potential characteristics as bone implants. Next, two methods were used to mix PCL with HAp as a 3D printing filament for bone implants: the dry and wet methods. After that, it is analyzed with SEM and Mechanical Strength. The results of the SEM test of HAp particles in the wet method have more even distribution and a smoother surface than in the dry method. The impact is visible on the filament's mechanical test, which shows better results in the wet method.

Abstract

In dealing with carbon emissions generated from the cement industry in general, the author has the idea to use Carment. Carment is a concept of carbon absorbing cement based on magnesium silicate which is derived from silica and is able to reduce carbon emissions from the manufacturing process compared to the manufacture of cement in general. There are several solutions that have existed in overcoming the problem of carbon emissions from the cement industry, such as the Waste Heat Recovery Power Generator (WHRPG), reducing the clinker ratio through blended cement products, and using alternative fuels to replace coal. However, its existence is still quite expensive and has not been able to overcome the problem of carbon emissions resulting from the cement industry. Carment is an innovation in the industrial sector where Carment as a magnesium cement from glass waste can solve the problem of carbon emissions from the calcination process. The availability of glass waste, which has a high availability, contains more than 70% silica and is inexpensive, increases the potential to produce magnesium cement from glass waste in Indonesia.

Abstract

Economic developments in Maluku Province show positive growth. However, this is not accompanied by an increase in the confidence index from consumers. It was recorded that from July to September 2022, there was a decrease in the Consumer Confidence Index of around 7.6% to 8.2%. The value of the Consumer Confidence Index can be forecasted using time series analysis. Time series analysis is a method intended to make an estimation and forecasting for the future. Some methods that can be used in forecasting in this study are naive, moving average, single exponential smoothing, double exponential smoothing, and time series regression. This method can be used to forecast the value of the Consumer Confidence Index in Ambon City after the Covid-19 pandemic. It can be concluded from the analysis results that the best model for forecasting the condition of the consumer confidence index value is the Double Exponential Smoothing method with a combination of Alpha = 0,4 and Gamma = 0,5, The forecast results showed a decrease in the value of the consumer confidence index, although the index still showed a relatively optimistic value.

Abstract

Nowadays, At the present time, the occurrence of regular earthquakes all over the world is turning into a significant problem. The structures that make up hospitals are among the most significant buildings in a living society because, in the event that a potentially dangerous scenario emerges, they help to serve as a caring and healing unit for the human population. A hospital building is made up of three different components: the structural component, the non-structural component, and the functional component. Each of these components can have an effect, either directly or indirectly, on the management and operation of the hospital building. Each time a natural or non-natural cause causes devastation and disaster, the globe suffers. In such cases, hospital buildings are vital in term of treating victims and injured persons, and housing those who lost their homes. Therefore, hospital facilities should be planned and constructed with enough stiffness and strength to resist disasters and serve as shelters or housing units afterward. This study analyses a hospital in area of Surabaya which built using Indonesian standard provision SNI 1726-2012. Weak structural members of the hospital are identified. The analysis determined to study the behaviour of hospital building when subjected to seismic forces using ETABS using current provision SNI 1726-2019. The investigation determined that the effect of the lateral forces under P-delta effect on the hospital building. Two different conditions have been compared, e.g., existing model and alternative configuration using dual system method to determining the recommendation for current building to resist seismic forces under new regulation. As a result, existing structure of hospital building still meet the requirements, but to fill the condition in accordance with SNI 1726-2019, some modifications need to be improved.

Abstract

The development of 3D Printing machine technology as a printing tool that uses an additive manufacturing method system with the aim of producing a three-dimensional (3D) object or object according to the default digital design file. 3D Printing was created to facilitate construction work, with 3D Printing construction work becoming lighter because this tool saves time, and costs, and reduces the risk of work accidents. With 3D Printing, work runs quickly and avoids problems in the development process. In the last few decades, many developed countries have used 3D Printing technology in making buildings. The 3D printing process basically consists of three different stages namely, data preparation, material preparation and transfer to the printer, and the printing stage. In the data preparation stage, the components are designed as 3D CAD models, then converted to STL (Stereolithography) format and sliced with the desired layer depth. The preparation of concrete involves mixing and placing it into a container. Once fresh concrete has been placed into the container, it can be channeled smoothly through a pump-pipe-nozzle system to print self-compacting concrete filaments, which build structural components layer by layer. The material used in this 3D printing method was Portland cement where this cement is easy to find among the public. Portland cement itself is the cement that is commonly used as a basic material for making concrete, plaster, mortar, and non-specialized mortar. In addition, fly ash and silica fumes are also added as a mixture. The addition of silica fumes increases the compressive strength of concrete. Furthermore, the addition of fly ash to the concrete has the effect of reducing drying shrinkage; but reducing the compressive strength of the concrete. In this study, the author focuses on the workability of 3D Printing concrete materials, and the impact of the material was added with additional type C fly ash and silica fume, namely flowability. The result is a concrete mix design that has good flowability value to be applied to the 3D Printing method.
