Abstract

In this study, water quality of Hlaing River was monitored along the downstream reach during low flow periods and water samples were collected once a week during January and February. Stations for sample collection were fixed after site survey. There are altogether 14 stations to analyse water quality of the study river reach. The monitoring program includes collection of samples from seven locations along the river into which seven streams discharge. These samples were analysed for a number of water quality parameters such as temperature, total dissolve solid,  total suspended solid, Conductivity, Salinity, pH, BOD, COD and Arsenic. The results of water quality parameters showed significant variation in water quality of the river and the water quality monitoring data were compared to the water quality standards for different uses. It is found that water quality of Hlaing River deteriorates and doesn’t meet the requirements for conserving of living environment due to the pollution from the tributary streams which received wastewater from adjacent industrial zones and newly Satellite town.

Abstract

Aquaculture, aqua farming, is the farming of aquatic organism such as fish, crustaceans, mollusk and aquatic plan. There are many factors that influence the production of aquaculture such as food stocks, protection from other predators, and water quality custody. In modern intensive river aquaculture management, water quality prediction plays an important role. The water quality indicator series are nonlinear and non-stationer. Hence, the accuracy of the commonly used conventional methods, including regression analyses and neural networks, were limited. A prediction model based on Smooth Support Vector Machine (SSVM) is proposed in this research to predict the aquaculture water quality. SSVM is an algorithm that is used for solving no linear function estimation problems. The data used in this research are data of river in Surabaya collected for two years. The data have twenty variables that indicate water quality such as temperature, turbidity, color, SS, pH, alkalinity, free CO2, DO, Nitrite, Ammonia, Copper, phosphate, sulfide, iron, Hexavalent Chromium, Manganese, Zinc, Lead, COD, and Detergents. From 520 instance data, we used 5-fold for the experiment. The Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of the experiment is 0.0275. This value shows that SSVM proven to be an effective approach to predict aquaculture water quality.

Abstract

Public open spaces (POS) handling in urban areas, regardless of their form, can be approached by various methods based on the potential and problems that exist in the POS. The public open spaces here can be in the form of green open spaces in the area, roads, parks, or outside natural spaces that function as public service facilities, including areas of the site developed into POS. Through this article we will look at four different cases for POS in three European cities and one Indonesian city which are carried out with different approaches as presented from the four scientific articles studied. The selected cities are located in Turkey, Cyprus, Montenegro and Denpasar, Indonesia. The reason for choosing four cities in various countries was also based on the physical and cultural character of these countries. By studying the different approaches taken, it is hoped that an understanding of the relationship between POS management results and the POS factual problems will result in the conclusion of the most appropriate approach to choose. Thus, it is expected to also find a relationship between the physical and cultural character of a country with the pattern of handling the city's public space.

Abstract

Structural element deterioration of truss bridge will change the performance of the system. Earlier identification leads to better bridge maintenance program to prevent bridge failure. A numerical analysis has been employed to truss bridge. Structural element damage was modeled by applying strength reduction on the element through reducing its cross area. Truss bridge with various single structural element strength reductions up to 20% was simulated. The bridge performance was evaluated based on the induced deflection. The results show that the onset of maximum deflection is the middle of the span and is independent of the element to which the strength reduction employed. Meanwhile, the impacted element experiences increasing moment after strength reduction
