Abstract

A series of benzylmercaptans carrying different para-substituents were used to form self-assembled monolayers on gold in order to modulate the work funtion of the metal electrode. Ellipsometry, Reflection Absorption Infrared Spectroscopy (RAIRS), and cyclic voltametry were used to chracterized the structure of the monolayer. The results show that as the dipole moment increases in the molecule, the surface coverage decreases. This can be the reason that a more polar molecule does not necessarily generate work function change proportionally.

Abstract

The pervious concrete is designed with cementitious material content just enough to coat the coarse aggregate particles so that a configuration that allows the passage of water at a much higher rate than conventional concrete. The pervious concrete has many advantages that improves city environment, recharges the ground by rain water and could be used as pavement for light vehicles, pedestrian pathways, parking lots, also it reduces the tire pavement interaction noise etc. In this paper, structural property and permeability of pervious concrete made without and with different ratios of fine aggregate and pozzolan. 9.5 mm maximum size of crushed gravel and constant aggregate/cement ratio of 3.6 were used. Mix design void content is tested 20%. The specific gravity of fine aggregate 2.53 and the specific gravity of crushed stone 2.56. Type I Portland cement and water- reducing and retarding concrete admixture were used. Mix design is based on the no slump method from the American Concrete Institute’s Committee 211.3R-02, “Standard Practice for Selecting Proportions for No Slump Concrete.” This research work was divided into third/three sections. The first section is without pozzolan and fine aggregate and second section is with two different ratios of pozzolan third section is without pozzolan and with fine aggregate. Pozzolan is used as a supplementary cementitious material to partially replace Portland cement in pervious concrete mixes up to 20% by weight. Fine aggregate partially replace as a coarse aggregate in pervious concrete mixes up to 10% by weight. Mix design void content is tested 20%. This concrete is tested for its properties, such as density, void content, compressive strength and water permeability. The most important property of pervious concrete is its water permeability.

Abstract

MOF-5 (metal-organic frameworks-5) have been synthesized using solvotermal method in which reaction mixtures of zinc nitrate hexahydrate and benzenedicarboxylic acid in dimethylformamide were heated at various heating temperatures and times in order to obtain the best reaction conditions for the synthesis of MOF-5. The heating temperatures used were 105, 120 and 140 °C, respectively with heating times of 12-144 hours. Determination of the best reaction conditions was based on the observation of phase purity and crystal morphology of MOF-5 using XRD and SEM. The characterization results showed that optimization of MOF-5 crystals were obtained when the reaction mixtures were heated at 105 °C for 144 h, 120 °C for 24 h and 140 °C for 12 h. The maximum weight of MOF-5 crystal was generated from reaction mixture heated at 120 °C for 72 h.

Abstract

Nowadays, the need of mega structures such high-rise buildings and long-span bridges due to the rapid growth of population is becoming increasingly urgent. The bigger the structures the higher the load should be carried by their structural members. To resist higher load, it normally requires larger size members. In reinforced concrete members, the capacity enhancement can be attained by either increasing the element size, the grade of materials used (concrete and steel bars), or the number or size of the steel bars used. However, higher-strength materials such as concrete and steel typically have more brittle properties. To improve the ductility of the concrete, it can be achieved by providing confining steel through transverse reinforcement. For higher-strength steel bars, a chemical based research has been conducted in recent years to come up with the high strength yet ductile steel material. This paper focuses on the analysis of various strengths of concrete columns 30 MPa and to 60 MPa reinforced and confined with high-strength reinforcing steel bars 550 MPa (Grade 80) with variety cross section of columns. From the study, it can be concluded that the confinement index decreases significantly with the increase of concrete strength. The use of higher-strength transverse steel increases the confinement index. The greater strengths of concrete used, the confinement ratio will be smaller at the same spacing.

Abstract

Abstract

Even though robotics have gaining an attention from students of every educational level since elementary school up to higher education, their impact in student’s education itself is still relatively small. Most of the robotics competitions in Indonesia are still focus on the result but not in the process. This paper presents an educational matrix of curriculum based on robotics which focused on the process and learning outcomes of the education. The proposed Curriculum Matrix is derived from Bloom's Taxonomy which synchronized with the Educational Curriculum of 2013 from the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. Hereafter, the activities of education are designed based the available robotics module together with the designed Curriculum Matrix. By using the Curriculum Matrix, the proportion of education activities can be evaluated to achieve the learning outcomes for the specified educational level more easily
