Abstract

Development of sandwich materials for ship structure is aimed mainly to reduce the ship light weight so that the ship payload increases. This paper addresses development of sandwich core material suitable for ship structure. The core materials were composed of synthetic resin and talc; percentages of talc by total weight investigated were 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%. Laboratory tests stipulated by the Lloyd’s Register (LR) and Det Norske Veritas (DNV) were performed on the core materials. Moreover, sandwich plates consisted of steel faceplates and the core materials were tested using ASTM standards including tension, shear, and flexure tests. The sandwich plates were applied for designing car deck of a ro-ro ship. Analysis of the sandwich deck under design load utilizing finite element approach was carried out to select the best sandwich core materials developed in this study. It was observed that the sandwich panel deck composed of synthetic resin and core material with 40% talc was better than the others.

Abstract

Abstract

In recent decade, support vector machine (SVM) was a machine learning method that widely used in several application domains. It was due to SVM has a good performance for solving data classification problems, particularly in non-linear case. Nevertheless, several studies indicated that SVM still has some inadequacies, especially the high time complexity in testing phase that is caused by increasing the number of support vector for high dimensional data. To address this problem, we propose a hybrid approach SVM – Neuro Fuzzy (SVMNF), which neuro fuzzy here is used to avoid influence of support vector in testing phase of SVM. Moreover, our approach is also equipped with a feature selection that can reduce data attributes in testing phase, so that it can improve the effectiveness of time computation. Based on our evaluation in real benchmark datasets, our approach outperformed SVM in testing phase for solving data classification problems without significantly affecting the accuracy of SVM.

Abstract

Palembang is the city which is divided by Musi River. Palembang is also one of the oldest city in Indonesia. Many old settlements were built in riparian area. This geographic condition of Palembang becomes background of this research. The research questions are: what is the discrepancy between Kampoong and Colonial Settlements in spatial configuration? Does the Musi River have influence in spatial configuration on that case? This research using the space syntax analysis with the following three steps of analysis: convex map analysis, axial map analysis and visibility graph analysis. For case studies, this research names two different settlements: old Kampoong (3-4 Ulu and 10 Ulu) and Colonial settlements (Komperta Plaju and Komperta Bagus Kuning) and we use Kampung Kapitan (7 Ulu) for the comparation. As the result of this research shows that between Kampoong and Colonial Settlements have some discrepancies in spatial configuration. In Kampoong, they have a small ‘void space’, many streets between houses and the organic patterns. In Colonial settlements, the spatial configuration is planned well with grid pattern. In context influences of Musi River to the settlements, only Bagus Kuning complex that has a closed relationship with rivers because those settlements have a connection between inner ‘void space’ with riparian ‘void space’.

Abstract

Non-invasive planar complementary split ring resonators (CSRRs) coupled to microstrip line for measuring the dielectric properties of materials and biological tissues are presented in this paper. The expectations of health professionals are increasingly turning to less invasive surgical procedures and treatments. In particular, the monitoring of vital parameters (sweat, water in the lungs, etc.) or the evolution of certain pathologies, such as cancer cells, could be observed regularly if suitable devices were developed and could especially replace traditional invasive method. Appropriate miniaturized RF or microwave devices could be an alternative for some medical diagnostic applications. These devices would make it possible to determine the dielectric characteristics of biological tissues, which represent their real pathological states. It would thus be possible, by means of dielectric contrast measurements, to follow the evolution of pathology as well as the vital parameters of a patient. The objective of this research is to produce a prototype biosensor that is suitable for measurements on biological tissues and that can be miniaturized to enhance its spatial sensitivity. This work focuses on the design, electromagnetic simulations and characterization of a new miniaturized biosensors operating between 1 and 10 GHz. The ex-vivo experimental results will be shown by measuring the S-parameters of various materials and animal biological tissues. The extraction of the dielectric parameters of these samples is obtained by the measurements of materials

Abstract

In order to predict the consolidation period in the field, consolidation coefficient in vertical direction (Cv) parameter is needed. When vertical drains installed in the compressible layer in order to shortened the consolidation period, it needs consolidation coefficient in horizontal direction (Ch). This Ch parameter has to be determined from the field settlement that usually obtained from the trial embankment.  However, it is very expensive to carry out the trial embankment; therefore, it is usually assumed to be 2 till 5xCv. In this paper, the assumption of the Ch value will be proven by using field settlement data taken from the trial embankment at the reclamation area for container yard at Kuala Tanjung, Medan, By choosing the Ch value, the compression vs time curves were predicted by adopting the Terzaghi, Asaoka, and Finite Element methods. Afterwards, these predicted settlement curves were plotted with the field settlement curves; from this plotting, it could be figured out the predicted curves which has Ch value the same with the field Ch value. The results show that from three methods adopted in this study, only the Terzaghi and the Asaoka methods give satisfactory results in settlement prediction. Consequently, only the Terzaghi and Asaoka methods are adopted to determine the Ch value. The Ch value obtained is about the same, that is 3Cv until 5Cv. When that Ch value used back to predict the settlement, the Asaoka method gives better result than the Terzaghi method.

Abstract

Will be Analized the Effective Refractive Indeks with Electric Field Variations In Two Border Areas Layers To Design Vaweguide five layers, where the dispersion relation equation is getting through from the field equations in waveguides five layers. Wave guide five layer nonlinear structure is one of wave guide structure usually used model on design medium laser MQM and system path on device integrated optic. The composition consist of five layer usually used was L-NL-L-NL-L when L and LN as linear and non linear respectively. Will specifically examined the role of the Jacobian elliptic function Cn and Sn in the formulation of the dispersion relation to determine the type of guided modes in a nonlinear waveguide structure of five layers, which are based on the effective refractive index relation to the variation of the electric field at the boundary of two media waveguide region. There are 3 types of guided modes, namely mode symmetry, asymmetry, and antisimentri. The greater the effective refractive index is given, allowing more conditions for the value of the electric field . The dispersion equation shows a very flexible and general expression because it can be applied to the waveguides multilayer having symmetric or asymmetric structures

Abstract

onnections with screws are used extensively to connect cold-formed steel (CFS) structural element, especially in the roof truss framing system. However, these connections cannot be relied upon to transfer loading due to the small thickness plates that result in more slender elements which are susceptible to local or distortional buckling and have low stiffness. Therefore, some improvements are made in this study by adding adhesive as the alternative connection. Three types of roof truss framing system are designed with a different connection, i.e. screw, adhesive and the combination of screw and adhesive. The study aims to investigate the behavior of frames connection through experimental studies with the given static load until the frame structure collapses, with attention to their initial (pre-slip) stiffness, elongation, and load-deformation capacity. As a result, the stiffness of adhesive connection given a lower value than screw connection. It is indicated of the delamination process, that the combination connection implied the better behavior with 50% screw reduction as well as increasing the load-deformation capacity with 69.7 mm, three times higher than the screw connection.
