Abstract

Identifikasi dengan cara survey deskriptif dilakukan untuk identifikasi ada tidaknya boraks, formalin dan pewarna berbahaya pada makanan yang dijual oleh pedagang di Kelurahan Gebang Putih, Kelurahan Keputih dan lingkungan ITS ini merupakan bagian dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat berbasis penelitian. Sampel kios makanan diambil secara purposive dan accidental sampling dengan total 100 kios. Kandungan boraks, formalin dan pewarna berbahaya dianalisis secara kualitatif menggunakan test kit. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan terdapat 3 sampel kios makanan yang positif menghidangkan makanan yang mengandung boraks; 2 sampel kios makanan yang menyajikan bakso dan mie mengandung formalin dan terdapat 1 sampel kios minuman yang positif mengandung pewarna berbahaya bagi kesehatan. Terhadap sampel kios penjual makanan dan minuman yang positif terindikasi boraks, formalin dan pewarna berbahaya, diberikan konseling dan bimbingan serta pengarahan tentang bahan alternatif pengganti yang aman untuk kesehatan.

Abstract

This research was aimed to produce and to analyze the quality and chemical composition of liquid smoke from bamboo waste by pyrolisis process. Temperatur of pyrolisis reactor were 140 oC, 180 oC, 220 oC, 260 oC and 300 oC for 5 hours to produce liquid smoke. Liquid smoke purified by filtration, distillation and adsorption. Resulted liquid smoke were analyzed yield, acidity, and density. Identifying the chemical composition of liquid smoke was by Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS).  Yield of liquid smoke 1,6977% up to 3,9713 %; Acidity of  liquid smoke were 1.49 up to 1,9; the density of liquid smoke 1,004 up to 1,045. The results of GC-MS test showed that chemical composition of the liquid smoke have Phenolic compounds 0,5 – 0,6ppm and liquid smoke found not containing of carsinogenic Benz (a) Pyrene.

Abstract

Feature extraction is a process to obtain the characteristics or features of an object where the value of the features will be used for analysis in the next process. In retinal image, extraction of blood vessels’ characteristics can be used for detection of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Retinal blood vessels’ features can be obtained directly with segmented image and with additional spatial method. For PDR detection, we need the suitable method that can produce maximum feature representation. This paper proposed hybrid feature extraction using a scale space analysis method and tracking with Bayesian probability. The result of the retinal images classification from STARE database using soft threshold m-Mediods classifier shows the best accuracy of 98.1%.

Abstract

In this study it is aimed to investigate the application of ducktail at transom stern to reduce total resistance using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Ducktail is additional retrofit device to reduce effect of wetted transom causes wave and wake which cannot fully generate far away therefore absorbs energy. The method about saving energy possibilities was determined. The RANSE code CFX fitted with shear stress transport (SST) turbulence is used to carry out the simulation. Grid generator ICEM CFD is used to build hybrid grids for RANS code solvers. The result indicate ducktail reduce resistance significantly based on Froude numbers. The wave and wake fully transmitted into the far field. Ducktail becomes alternative appendages to increase energy efficiency.

Abstract

Ventilation shaft can be used in apartment units to provide cross ventilation by creating a pressure difference between the room’s windward opening and outlet at the roof. The previous research about ventilation shaft has shown its potential in providing good natural ventilation in high-rise apartment building. This paper examines the influence of ventilation shaft aperture configuration on its ability to generate air movement and uniform flow distribution. The experiment is carried out using computational fluid dynamics with RNG k-e calculation method. Ventilation shaft system with a uniform aperture can produce very high air velocity only at the top floor while ventilation shaft system with internal aperture size increased from the upper floor to the lower floor can produce better air flow distribution

Abstract

Microwave incinerator as one of the modern incinerators is proposed to produce amorphous Microwave incinerated Rice Husk Ash (MIRHA) with high pozzolanic reactivity thus can significantly enhance concrete properties. Analyses on the MIRHA with various burning temperature, the temperatures used were 300°C, 400°C, 500°C, 600°C and 800°C. To determine the physical and chemical properties of MIRHA with various burning temperature were also conducted through X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and mechanical properties test. The results showed that the MIRHA at 300oC could be used as a cementitious material with optimum OPC replacement at 20%. It was found that MIRHA foamed concrete at 300oC achieved more than 100% higher strength compared to foamed concrete without MIRHA.

Abstract

Bagi sebagian guru pra-sekolah di daerah terpencil, penggunaan teknologi sebagai media pembelajaran dalam proses belajar mengajar masih berupa mimpi. Apalagi sekolah yang dikelola merupakan sekolah yang didirikan dan dikelola oleh masyarakat secara mandiri, swadaya, dan swadana apa adanya. PAUD, TK, dan Madrasah Diniyah “Mamba’ul Hisan” Dusun Sekargadung Desa Balerejo II, Kecamatan Panggungrejo, Kabupaten Blitar adalah contoh nyata. Sekolah ini dikelola oleh individu/keluarga yang mempunyai kepedulian terhadap pendidikan di lingkungannya, yaitu Dusun Sekargadung, Desa Balerejo II, Kecamatan Panggungrejo, Kabupaten Blitar bagian selatan yang termasuk daerah tandus, terpencil, dan tertinggal. Sekolah ini dikelola apa adanya dengan segala keterbatasannya, namun tetap berusaha sebagai sekolah yang baik dan menjadi tujuan masyarakat mendapatkan pendidikan dini anak-anak mereka. Melalui program kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) tim dosen Soshum ITS, guru-guru PAUD, TK, dan Madrasah Diniyah “Mamba’ul Hisan” dikenalkan kepada teknologi (literasi teknologi) sebagai media pembelajaran dalam proses belajar mengajar dalam bentuk pelatihan operasional penggunaan LCD proyektor dan pembuatan serta pengoperasian materi PPT sebagai media pembelajaran. Hasil dari pelatihan adalah pertama guru-guru mempunyai pengetahuan dan keterampilan mengoperasikan penggunaan LCD proyektor, kedua  guru-guru mempunyai pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam membuat dan mengoperasikan meteri pembelajaran dalam format PPT. Dengan diraihnya keterampilan-keterampilan literasi teknologi dalam proses pembelajaran oleh guru, maka dihasilkan metode pembelajaran yang lebih menarik, variasi bahan ajar yang kaya, yang pada ujungnya membuat peserta didik merasa senang, meningkat motivasinya, prestasinya dan kualitas pendidikannya dan membuat sekolah tersebut diminati walimurid dan masyarakat.

Abstract

In the last few decades, massive earthquakes, which can damage many homes and buildings, have often occurred. To slow down or prevent damage from earthquakes, various technologies are needed. From this technology, simulators of ground motion from earthquakes can be used to remind people of the dangers of earthquakes. This paper introduces a portable earthquake simulator to simulate two-dimensional ground motion from an earthquake. Focusing on the design concept, structure, and features of this new simulator, the author discusses its implementation and verifies its feasibility with the results of the initial experiments.

Abstract

In this work, the effects of ball milling with different catalysts (including NbF5 and Nb2O5) on the hydrogen storage properties of 2LiBH4-MgH2 system were investigated. The increase of ball-milling time (from 5 min to 24 h) can reduce the crystallites size of MgH2 from 74 nm to 14 nm and decrease the dehydrogenation temperature of MgH2 from 390°C to 345°C. Among Nb-based catalysts, sample with NbF5 shows slightly better sorption kinetics than the one with Nb2O5, it can store reversibly about 9 wt.% of H2 in 24 h at 350°C, whereas more than 60 h are needed with Nb2O5 . This indicates that NbF5 is superior to Nb2O5 for improving the sorption kinetics of 2LiBH4-MgH2 system.

Abstract

The development of computing technology affords wide opportunities to apply the virtual reality in the building design process. Virtual reality not only promotes possibilities to explore architectural forms but also affords capability to learn the interaction of users and the design object as if they do in the real situation. User reaction toward design model can be learned and used to be effective information to develop a promoted preliminary design. The user satisfaction and suitability are indicated by their feedback of design object in virtual reality simulation. This paper aims to explain the application of the method on hospital building design. In this case the authors found that the method is very accurate to capture the user need and very valuable to support design process.
