Abstract

The sappanwood extract enriched by brazilin can be used for natural colouring agent in food and beverages. The extract is produced in form of dry powder for consummer convenience as well as prolonging storage life. Currently, the sappanwood extract drying still deals with the product sticky that inhibit water transport in drying. As a result, the drying process needs long time to get moisture content below 10%. The extract drying with carrier agent is an option to break the product sticky and to enlarge the surface area for water transport. This paper discusses the effect of carrier agent arabic gum and maltodextrin on sappanwood extract drying with air dehumidification. As a  responses, the moisture content in extract was observed every sampling time and average drying rate was estimated. Results showed that, the carrier agent improve drying rate significantly. With arabic gum 10%, the average drying time can be 2 hours shorter than that of without carrier agent. With faster drying rate, the drying time was shorter  at higher operational temperature. Keywords: Brazilin, dehumidification, tray dryer, zeolite

Abstract

This study was aimed to learn about ocean wave characteristics and to identify times and areas with vulnerability to high waves in Indonesian waters. Significant wave height of Windwaves-05 model output was used to obtain such information, with surface level wind data for 11 years period (2000 to 2010) from NCEP-NOAA as the input. The model output data was then validated using multimission satellite altimeter data obtained from Aviso. Further, the data were used to identify areas of high waves based on the high wave’s classification by WMO. From all of the processing results, the wave characteristics in Indonesian waters were identified, especially on ALKI (Indonesian Archipelagic Sea Lanes). Along with it, which lanes that have high potential for dangerous waves and when it occurred were identified as well. The study concluded that throughout the years, Windwaves-05 model had a magnificent performance in providing of ocean wave characteristics information in Indonesian waters. The information of height wave vulnerability needed to make a decision on the safest lanes and the best time before crossing on ALKI when the wave and its vulnerability is likely low. Throughout the years, ALKI II is the safest lanes among others since it has been identified of having lower vulnerability than others. The knowledge of the wave characteristics for a specific location is very important to design, plan and vessels operability including types of ships and shipping lanes before their activities in the sea

Abstract

The present work is carried out to study laminar mixed convection heat transfer inside a rectangular cooled room numerically. The chosen model is considered as a representation of a room facing the sun with a floor releasing heat resulted by electronic components or human activities. The Reynolds number and Richardson number are varied from 100 to 400 and 0 to 3, respectively, in order to cover laminar mixed convection phenomena. For the considered range of Re dan Ri, the flow regimes fall into  three modes. The higher Nusselt numbers are found at the higher values of Re, on the other hand, the forced convection leads to higher heat transfer rate than the free/natural convection.

Abstract

Ligninolytic enzymes are extracelluler enzymes that have many benefit on multiple industrial department. Its can result from Gliomastix sp. This study was aimed to determine the effect of temperature and pH on the activity of Ligninolytic enzymes by Gliomastix sp. T3.7 that grow on multiple organic waste . Ligninolytic enzymes was measured with spectrofotometer UV-Vis Boeco S22. The result showed that Gliomastix sp. T3.7 potentially produce the ligninolytic enzymes like as laccase, LiP and MnP. The optimum laccase activity ( 1,765 U/ml) detected on sugarcane baggase waste, pH 6 and temperature of 350C . The optimum LiP activity (8,088U/ml) detected on corn cobs, pH 5 and 350C, whereas the optimum MnP activity (0,964 U/ml) detected on sugarcane baggase too. Its optimum on pH 4 and 250C. Gliomastix sp. T3.7 on sugarcane bagasse, pH 6 and 350C, agensia potentially used as remediation on a variety of industry pollution.

Abstract

Displacement flow will caused a change in the flow characteristics such as flow depth, discharge, river slope and width of the river surface. If not carefully examined, it will cause the riverbed erosion, sedimentation and risk of flooding. This paper aims to assess the hydrology and hydraulics of the river flow changes in Ketandan creek in optimizing the use of land housing for Jember New City (JNC). Hydrology modelling studies conducted for the return period rainfall include a 2 year as normal discharge, and 100 year as flood condition. Simulation of flood designs used to assess changes in the flow regime in the channel and the risk of flooding with HEC-RAS program. The results of the study showed that for the flood design 3,1 m3/sec and 12,8 m3/sec will give the effect of critical water surface. In order to keep the flow of the river bed of critically needed as the drop-structure and spillway construction
