Abstract

This research aims to understand the process of identity formation among regional students in Jember District. The subjects of this study are Batak ethnic regional students from North Sumatra who have resided in Jember District for more than two years. The theoretical framework employed for analyzing this phenomenon is Stuart Hall's theory of hybrid identity. Employing data collection methods such as interviews, observations, and documentation, the findings reveal that the process of hybrid identity formation among Batak ethnic regional students in Jember District is shaped through interactions within public spaces, such as campus environments and surrounding environments. Cultural differences between the objects and the local Jember community frequently result in dynamics within the adaptation process. Consequently, these students must open themselves up to accept and adopt certain elements of the Pandalungan culture, which represents a form of hybridity of the local multicultural Jember community. This leads to a blending of identities, producing a hybrid identity that is reflected in language, etiquette, and culinary. Nevertheless, Batak ethnic regional students in Jember Regency maintain aspects of their authentic identity, such as their clan (marga), Batak language, mardebata (rituals or prayers), and martutur (kindship relationships). This study expounds that the hybrid identity of regional students is continually in a state of 'becoming'.

Abstract

Stunting is a significant chronic nutritional problem in Indonesia, including in East Java, which affects children's growth and development. This study aims to explore the factors that influence stunting and its mitigation. Stunting is caused by inadequate nutritional intake, especially during the first 1000 days of life, as well as infections, poor sanitation and family economic conditions. Although the prevalence of stunting in East Java has decreased from 23.5% in 2021 to 19.2% in 2022, this figure still indicates that many children are affected. Effective nutrition interventions, such as multi-nutrient supplementation, nutrition education, and adequate nutrition support, are needed to improve children's nutritional status and reduce the risk of stunting. Research by Yudho Bawono et al. (2024) showed that socialisation on the impact of stunting increased community knowledge by 6.20%, confirming the importance of education in stunting prevention at the community level. In addition, the nutritional condition of the mother during pregnancy also plays an important role in the risk of stunting in children. Nutrient deficiencies such as iron and vitamin D during pregnancy can lead to low birth weight and stunting. Therefore, a comprehensive approach, involving education, access to health services, and collaboration between the government and the community, is essential to ensure children receive adequate nutrition and can grow optimally. This study is expected to provide deeper insights into the factors that influence stunting and the effectiveness of prevention efforts that have been made.

Data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. Data analysis techniques used data reduction, data collection and conclusion drawing. The results showed that family support is crucial in increasing the independence of children with disabilities. The family is the first person to be present and accept the child's condition as a whole. The forms of support include informational support by providing advice and information to children so that they can carry out various activities on their own but are still accompanied; recognition support, which gives appreciation to children when children successfully complete a basic job well; instrumental support, which provides complete facilities such as therapy and skills training; emotional support, which is concerned with concern, sympathy and empathy, acceptance, and affection from the family to children. These forms of support contribute to improving children's ability to carry out daily activities independently. Abstract

The development of rural areas is an integrative effort between villages, carried out to accelerate and improve the quality of public services, development, and community empowerment through a participatory development approach. However, rural area development has not yet adequately addressed social justice in terms of development sustainability. This study aims to identify socially just development strategies for rural areas, particularly concerning the socio-cultural dimension. The research was conducted in the Agropolitan National Priority Rural Area (KPPN) of Selingkar Ijen, Banyuwangi, focusing on 7 out of the 14 villages within the area. This is a descriptive qualitative study using Soft System Methodology (SSM). Data collection was carried out through observation, secondary data gathering, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews (mandala interviews), with data analysis conducted using the Planning Charrette method. The research findings indicate that the development of the Selingkar Ijen Agropolitan Area must consider the socio-cultural dimension, particularly the presence of Osing cultural traditions and the strengthening of Osing community institutions or customary councils. These represent a unified value system and collective cultural practices within an integrated rural area. The strategy includes the cultural transformation of Osing traditions among the younger generation for further development. It also involves recognizing Osing culture as a revitalized pillar of development and leveraging it as local wisdom within governance and development systems.

Abstract

Religious difference remains a sensitive issue in Indonesia, often becoming a source of social tension and conflict. In contrast, Sukoreno Village is characterized by its religious diversity and relatively harmonious interfaith relations. This study aims to analyze the construction of interfaith knowledge within a family living in Sukoreno Village. The phenomenon is examined through the lens of Social Construction Theory as developed by Peter L. Berger. This research adopts a qualitative method with a constructivist approach. The findings indicate that religious diversity has become a normalized aspect of family life in the village, forming a social reality that has been sustained across generations. This reality emerges through a process of knowledge construction that involves the stages of externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Furthermore, religious difference within the family setting gives rise to a range of social meanings and interpretations.

Abstract

Culture is one of the soft power instruments for building good relationships between countries. The Spanish government has carried out cultural diplomacy through the El Programa Para la Internacionalización de la Cultura Española (PICE) since 2013, with France as one of the target countries for implementation. As a country with a diverse culture, Spain uses it as an instrument of diplomacy. Nevertheless, PICE as a cultural diplomacy program has obstacles to global implementation. France as a country that is geographically directly adjacent and as one of the potential markets for Spanish cultural tourism. This study aims to learn about the implementation of a cultural diplomacy strategy toward France through PICE. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research approach with a literature study as the data sources. Using the concept of public diplomacy and cultural diplomacy, it was found that the PICE program toward France in the first 10 years was implemented through 4 cultural activities, artist mobility, cultural exchange, cultural representation, and collaboration with France cultural institutions. Thus, PICE toward France became a tool for giving a broader perspective about Spain to the France public through the cultural instrument and also strengthened the existing bilateral relations between Spain and France.

Abstract

This study's main topic is the discussion of transgender social networks in Empat Lawang Regency's Pendopo District. The phrase "transvestites" describes a phenomenon in which men identify as women by acting or wearing like them, even though they are men. Society considers the transvestite phenomenon to be aberrant. The purpose of this study is to elucidate the social network patterns and existence of transvestites in Pendopo District, Empat Lawang Regency. This study's qualitative technique uses purposeful interviewing to select informants who are knowledgeable about the subjects being covered. The results of the survey show that transvestites are currently rather common in the Pendopo sub-district; they can be seen at residences, weddings, and salons. Transvestites aren't scared to show who they are in public these days. The results of the study also show that women in Pendopo District, Empat Lawang Regency, have established interest networks and emotional networks, two distinct types of social networks. In an attempt to network with other transvestites, gain acceptance in society, and attract customers for their salon business, waria founded the network.

Abstract

The naturalization of football players has emerged as a strategic approach adopted by various countries to enhance the competitiveness of their national teams on the international stage. Indonesia, which shares a historical relationship with the Netherlands, has leveraged this connection by collaborating to identify and recruit football players of Indonesian descent who are active in European leagues. This study aims to analyze the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the Netherlands in implementing the football player naturalization program and to examine its implications for the development of Indonesian football. Employing a descriptive-qualitative method with a case study approach, the research draws on secondary data sources such as theses, journals, and relevant scholarly articles. The findings indicate that the program has significantly improved the quality of the national team and revitalized historical and cultural ties between the two nations. Nevertheless, several challenges persist, including public resistance, debates on nationalism, and administrative hurdles in the naturalization process. To ensure long-term benefits for Indonesian football, this study recommends a more strategic and sustainable policy framework that balances naturalization efforts with the development of local talent.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes in various aspects of life, including public services. In the digital era, people demand faster, transparent, and more efficient services. This encourages the government to transform public services by utilizing information and communication technology (ICT). This Transformation of manual systems into digital ones also improves business processes, increases accountability, and ensures community involvement in policymaking. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The researcher collects data through observation, data analysis, literacy studies, and/or literature review studies. Implementing public policies using smart cities with an e-government system in Indonesia still faces various multidimensional obstacles. The main problems identified include digital access disparity, limited network infrastructure, large implementation budgets, lack of public understanding, linguistic and technical competence barriers, cybersecurity issues, and rejection of digital Transformation.
