Abstract

PT.X as one of the heavy equipment manufacturing company are producing mining and non-mining transportation product (e.g. Semi Side Tipper (SST) & Dolly). In producing those kinds of products that mostly using tires, there is a process area to do mounting truck tire. Based on interviews and direct observation results, there is a symptom of Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTD), especially in the low back area. The low back pain experienced by the operators is caused by an awkward posture that resulted from Manual Material Handling (MMH) in this process. Lifting and holding the tire that is located on the floor with diameter 1.2m, height 0.3m, and weight 90 Kg also the reasons why the awkward posture appears during the mounting truck tire process. Using Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA), Nordic Questionnaire, and followed by the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) approach for product design are used to do the improvement for the process. In the end, these ergonomics issues are solved by developing material handling tools that can minimize the risk and symptoms of CTDs. It can be shown by initially REBA score is on level 11 (Very High Risk) to level 7 (Medium Risk) and for the Nordic result from 7 body parts that feel discomfort, now it just becomes 1 body parts feel discomfort.

Abstract

Based on production data of overburden (OB) stripping at Pit 7 PT XYZ in February 2019, productivity of the excavators doesn’t reach the desired target. To find out the potential for increased productivity and effectiveness of using excavators, it’s necessary to do an analysis using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) method. OEE is a performance measurement tool that has the ability to identify the root of the problem and it’s causative factors so that improvement efforts are more focused. The parameters used in the calculation of OEE value are: Availability, Utilization, and Productivity Index. Based on the result of data processing, the OEE value were 56,00% for excavator EX2313 and 34,19% for excavator EX2325. This means that the OEE value hasn’t been able to meet the world class standard OEE value in medium category, namely 60%. Improvement are made by reducing lost work time but obstacles can be avoided, so as to increase utilization. The proposed improvement provide increased in the OEE value were 12,73% for excavator EX2313 and 11,61% for excavator EX2325. This shows that the OEE value of PC800 with number EX2313 reaches the world class standard in medium category or productivity can be considered reasonable, namely 68,73%. Meanwhile, the OEE value of PC800 with number EX2325 still doesn’t reach the world class standard in medium category, namely 45,80%.

Abstract

Scheduling is an important factor in both manufacturing and service industry environments. Scheduling is a resource allocation arrangement for completing tasks that involve work, resources and time. With the scheduling, all work can be completed according to priority and can minimize processing time, so that makespan is minimal. In addition, it can reduce idle machines and reduce the inventory of semi-finished goods. Maryati Small Micro and Medium Enterprises (IKM) is a business that is engaged in the manufacture of clothing that produces various types of products such as baby clothes, teenage clothes to adults. So far, IKM Maryati is in the process of machine scheduling by determining the order of Job execution based on the longest to shortest total Job processing time. Scheduling with this method creates problems for the company, as evidenced by the accumulation of semi-finished goods at several work-stations. Another problem is when orders arrive at a certain period with a large variety and number of products, causing Job completion that exceeds the target time (due-date). The size of the makespan causes the production time to increase, so the company is late to start production of orders in the following month. In this study, the Non-delay algorithm is used to solve the problems that arise in IKM Maryati. The result obtained is the scheduling using the existing method by IKM Maryati which produces 44 days makespan value. Meanwhile, by applying the Non-delay compound engine algorithm, it produces a makespan of 42 days. This shows that the compound machine Non-delay Algorithm method can minimize the makespan value in IKM Maryati. There is an efficiency of 4.55% in both time and cost variables.

Abstract

The roasting process of coffee beans in West Kalimantan, especially Pontianak city, is still done traditionally. The coffee roasting process is done manually by using a fire stove as a heater. Workers with standing posture stir the coffee beans continuously, and it can take 4 hours for 20 kilos of coffee beans. Standing work posture is required for stirring the coffee beans but can cause fatigue in workers due to long-standing times and high heating temperatures. This situation causes the roasting process to be less efficient and can cause the roasting process to be uneven. The purpose of this study was to identify musculoskeletal complaints of standing work posture in the manual coffee roasting process and provide an evaluation of corrective work posture when using the design results of an automatic digital roasting machine. The methods used in this study were the Nordic Body Map (NBM) and the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) to assess the level of risk of posture for musculoskeletal complaints. The results of the identification of body points that experience fatigue were carried out by distributing NBM questionnaires and evaluating the worker's posture using RULA on CATIA V5R20. Based on the existing NBM, the risk score is 78, and the final RULA score is 6, which means that immediate corrective action is needed because the work posture is categorized as dangerous and does not meet ergonomic principles. Improvement of working posture is made by designing a roasting machine that is digital and automatic. So the workers do not need to mix the coffee beans manually. Based on roasting machine implementation results, there was a significant change in the NBM score and the final RULA score. The NBM results obtained a score of 55 which means that the risk is moderate with the risk of fatigue in the neck, right leg and, left leg. Meanwhile, evaluation of work posture based on RULA on CATIA obtained a final score of 3, which means that the work posture is not dangerous and does not require immediate improvement.

Abstract

Bakery shop X sells its products using its car which operate in Bandung District area. The problem which faced by bakery shop X is the high percentage of leftover bread that is not sold out. Although some of breads can be resold, there has been a drastic decline in the appearance and the quality of the leftover breads. Bread which has a diminishing value in appearance and quality is sold with the lower price which result in decrease in profit. This research using multi-product newsvendor problem to determine how much every kind of breads must be produced in each day so that the profit expectation can be maximized and will indirectly minimize the amount of remaining breads. This research will applied that the bread which allowed to sold is the bread which produced in 1 day so that the customer do not get the unfresh bread. The result of the implementation of the model through simulation shows a decrease in the percentage of leftover bread in the majority of breads based on the demand data of 1 week and higher profit expectations are obtained.

Abstract

Nowadays, maintenance performance in organizations has become compelling due to competitiveness in the global market and the inclusion of more legislation issues (such as safety and health regulations) in assessments. In this article, the purpose is to formulate in maintenance problem for a food processing unit as a multicriteria problem and solve it using the evaluation based on distance from the average solution (EDAS) method. To attain this purpose, the authors defined a set of weighted criteria and a set of alternatives, and the solution is the alternative that scores the best in those criteria. Consequently, analysis was done based on the EDAS method and the calculated results from the literature data. Consequently, the parameters considered include the frequency of failure, MTBF, MTTF and MTTR while availability is the response. The EDAS method was used to select the best alternative (MTTR, 0.8802) and this score of 0.8802 is for an alternative. The chief novelty of this article is the unique introduction of an innovative EDAS method, which requires only two measures of the desirability of alternative (positive and negative distances from the average solution) but excluded the evaluation of the idea and nadir solutions for the key performance indicators of maintenance. Consequently, this study initiates a maintenance plan for the food industry referring to the key performance indicators as a cause for poor availability of equipment in the Nigerian food industry.

Abstract

Selecting cutting tools for a milling process is crucial to determine the optimal cut. Minimizing milling process-cost is one of the most common optimization objectives, and thus it determines the best cutting tool to be used. However, the chosen cutting tool might not bring the optimal result based on the tool’s cost. Therefore, a valuation method based on the process and cutting-tool costs results were developed and analyzed to improve the cutting tool selection process. A specific rough-milling operation was entered to the quick cost-estimation and optimization application, and several cutting-tools were compared based on the process-cost by each tool. Using a weight-based analysis on both process-cost and tool-cost changes the cutting-tool options' initial rankings. This study showed that using different weight ratios altered the order of the most suitable cutting tools. Another finding revealed in this study is how deflection constraint affected the rank of cutting tool selection. Thus, knowing the proper limit of deflection is crucial to validate the cutting tool selection outcome.

Abstract

Fulfillment customer demand is main factor that have to be considered by company to win competitive competition. Right strategy is needed to meet this objective and create minimum total inventory costs. During COVID-19 pandemic, hygiene products become products that have skyrocketing demand, thus encouraging emergence of new stores selling it. One of them is Store X that sells hygiene products. The problem is discrepancy between demand from consumers with quantity of coming products. Store X warehouse also has products that are not well organized, causing difficulties in retrieval and storage products. Currently, Store X used Optional Method to control inventory based on store policy, resulting in high holding costs. This research proposed 2 inventory control strategies, where in each strategies considering Q, P, and Optional Method, as well as selected the best method based on minimum inventory total costs. First strategy, store order all of products to supplier, if there is shortage will produce 50 jerrycans. Second strategy, store always produces 4 types of products using EPQ method, while the other will be order to supplier. Based on selected strategy, warehouse layout is proposed using Class-Based Dedicated Storage Policy. From the results, second strategy with Q method is selected, that results savings in holding costs and production costs, although increase in ordering costs and shortage costs. Total cost savings per 6 months IDR 3.716.543,35 or 60,79%. Application of proposed warehouse layout, all of products are well and neatly organized, so that could increase effectivity and efficiency in retrieval and allocation.
