Abstract

Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menganalisis strategi terjemahan yang sering dan jarang digunakan dalam cerita pendek yang berjudul In Twilight Born oleh John. H. McGlynn. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan checklist dan rubrik sebagai instrumen. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan translation by paraphrase using unrelated word sebagai strategi yang paling sering digunakan dan Translation using loan word or loan word plus explanation sebagai strategi yang paling jarang digunakan. Terdapat 11 kata yang termasuk strategi translation by paraphrase using unrelated word dan 4 kata termasuk strategi translation using a loan word or loan word plus explanation. Selain itu, kualitas terjemahan yang dimiliki dalam cerita pendek yaitu akurat, berterima, dan mudah dibaca. Dalam aspek keakuratan, ditemukan data sebanyak 254 kalimat yang termasuk sebagai terjemahan akurat, 47 kalimat termasuk terjemahan kurang akurat, dan 1 kalimat termasuk terjemahan tidak akurat. Dalam aspek keberterimaan, ditemukan sebanyak 272 kalimat yang termasuk sebagai terjemahan berterima, 30 kalimat termasuk terjemahan kurang berterima, dan 1 kalimat termasuk terjemahan tidak berterima. Dalam aspek keterbacaan, ditemukan sebanyak 279 kalimat yang termasuk sebagai terjemahan terbaca, 14 kalimat termasuk terjemahan kurang terbaca, dan 0 kalimat termasuk terjemahan tidak terbaca. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini bermanfaat untuk para penerjemah dapat memberikan hasil terjemahan yang lebih baik melalui penggunaan strategi dalam menerjemahkan teks dan meningkatkan kualitas terjemahan. Selanjutnya, peneliti lain diharapkan bisa menggunakan jenis strategi lain dan teks yang berbeda.Kata Kunci : terjemahan, strategi terjemahan, kualitas terjemahan, cerita pendek This study was aimed at analyzing translation strategies in the short story entitled In Twilight Born by John H. McGlynn. This study is qualitative research that used checklist and rubric as the instruments. It was found that translation by paraphrase using unrelated word as a strategy that mostly used and the translation using loan word or loan word plus explanation as a strategy that rarely used. There were 11 words in translation by paraphrase using unrelated word and 4 words in translation using a loan word or loan word plus explanation. Moreover, the quality of short story translation was accurate, acceptable, and readable. In accuracy aspect, there were 254 sentences categorized as an accurate translation, 47 sentences as less accurate translation, and 1 sentence as an inaccurate translation. In acceptable aspect, there were 272 sentences categorized as an acceptable translation, 30 sentences as less acceptable translation, and 1 sentence as an inacceptable translation. In readability aspect, there were 279 sentences categorized as a high readability, 14 sentences as a medium readability, and 0 sentence as a low readability. Thus, it is beneficial for other translators to conduct better translation result by applying the strategies and improving the quality of translation as well as it is as the reflection for the other researchers to apply other strategies and use other text sources.keyword : translation, translation strategy, quality of translation, short story

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan (1) jenis media yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris di SD Laboratorium Undiksha, (2) respon siswa terhadap penggunaan media di SD Laboratorium Undiksha, dan (3) persepsi guru Bahasa Inggris terhadap penggunaan media dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris di SD Laboratorium Undiksha. jenis media yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris, hasil daftar periksa menemukan bahwa media yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris di SD Laboratorium Undiksha sebagian besar adalah kartu flash, lagu / audio, animasi dan video / film. Dari daftar periksa mengenai respon siswa terhadap media yang digunakan, para siswa memiliki respon positif terhadap media yang digunakan. Mereka percaya bahwa materi pembelajaran lebih mudah dipahami ketika media digunakan di ruang kelas. Dalam menjawab persepsi guru terhadap penggunaan media di kelas, hasil kuesioner menemukan bahwa guru bahasa Inggris di SD Laboratorium Undiksha memiliki persepsi positif terhadap penggunaan media dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris untuk siswa. Mereka kebanyakan percaya bahwa penggunaan media dapat membantu guru untuk melakukan pembelajaran yang lebih baik dan menyediakan sumber pembelajaran yang luasKata Kunci : media, persepsi, respone This study aimed at finding (1) types of media that are used by the English teacher at SD Laboratorium Undiksha, (2) the students’ responses towards the use of media in SD Laboratorium Undiksha, and (3) English teachers’ perception toward the use of media in teaching English in SD Laboratorium Undiksha. types of media used by English teachers, the result of checklist found that media used by English teacher in SD Laboratorium Undiksha are mostly flashcard, song/audio, animation and video/film. From the checklist regarding students’ response toward the media used, the students have positive response towards the media used. They belief that the learning materials are easier to be understood when media is used in classroom. In answering teachers’ perception toward the use of media in classroom, the result of questionnaire found that English teachers in SD Laboratorium Undiksha had a positive perception towards the use of media in teaching English for the students. Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi tipe-tipe strategi kesopanan dan mendeskripsikan alasan penggunaan strategi kesopanan yang digunakan oleh pedagang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 5 pedagang. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Tanah Lot Tabanan Bali. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan wawancara. Analisis data menggunakan Interactive Data Analysis Model terdiri dari pengumpulan data, data reduksi, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan dan verifikasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa tiga dari empat strategi kesopanan yang muncul ketika pedagang berkomunikasi dengan orang asing sebagai pembeli. Strategi yang sering muncul adalah Bald on Record (53.62%) diikuti oleh Positive Politeness (37.68%), Negative Politeness (7.25%), dan tidak ada munculnya Off Record. Alasan utama pedagang menggunakan strategi kesopanan adalah untuk mendapatkan banyak pembeli dan membuat pembeli merasa nyaman serta dihargai.Kata Kunci : strategi kesopanan, pedagang, tanah lot, pembeli The purpose of this study was to identify the types of politeness and describe the reason the use of politeness strategies used by shopkeepers. This study was a descriptive qualitative. The subjects were 5 shopkeepers. This study was taken place in Tanah Lot Tabanan Bali. The data were collected through observation and interview. The data were analyzed by using Interactive Data Analysis Model consisting of data collection, data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion and verification. The result of this study shows that three of four politeness strategies is appears when the shopkeepers talk with the foreigners as their buyer. The most appeared strategies is Bald on Record (53.62%) followed by Positive Politeness (37.68%), Negative Politeness (7.25%), and inexistence of Off Record. The main reasons of shopkeepers used politeness strategies are to gain more buyers and to make the buyer comfortable and respectful. keyword : politeness strategies, shopkeepers, tanah lot, buyers

Abstract

Penelitian ini berusaha menggambarkan penyisipan nilai-nilai utama Penguatan Pendidikan Karakter dalam pelajaran bahasa Inggris di SMP Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja. Penelitian ini merupakan studi kasus. Subjek penelitian ini adalah seorang guru bahasa Inggris dan siswa kelas tujuh. Peneliti mengidentifikasi cara guru dalam menyisipkan nilai-nilai ke dalam Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP), pengimplementasiannya dan tanggapan siswa terhadap penerapan nilai-nilai yang disisipkan dalam proses pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Nilai-nilai yang diamati seperti religius, nasionalis, mandiri, gotong-royong, dan integritas. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah peneliti, panduan wawancara, catatan, dokumen, ceklis Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP), ceklis observasi, kamera, dan kuesioner. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa guru menyisipkan nilai-nilai secara implisit melalui setiap kegiatan yang dirancang dalam Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP). Hasil observasi menunjukkan bahwa guru telah menerapkan semua nilai utama. Skor tanggapan siswa mencapai 83,35% yang berarti bahwa mereka selalu menerapkan semua nilai utama pendidikan karakter di kelas.Kata Kunci : pendidikan karaktek, pelajaran bahasa Inggris This study attempted to describe the insertion of the main values of Character Education Revitalization in English lesson at SMP Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja. This study was a case study design. The subjects were an English teacher and seventh-grade students. The researcher identified the teacher's ways in inserting the values into the lesson plan, the implementation and the students’ responses toward the implementation of the values inserted in the learning process. The values were religious, nationalist, self-directedness, mutual cooperation, and integrity. The instruments used were interview guide, note, documents, lesson plan analysis checklist, observation checklist, camera, and questionnaire. The findings indicated that the teacher inserted the values implicitly through each activity designed in the lesson plan. The observations result showed that the teacher has already implemented all of the main values. The students' responses scores gained 83,35% which means that they always implemented all of the values in class activity.keyword : character education, English lesson

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi di abad 21 telah membawa banyak perubahan untuk pendidikan. Salah satu perubahannya adalah penggunaan perangkat mobile sebagai sarana yang efektif dan penting dalam pengajaran bahasa inggris. Banyak penelitian tentang mobile assisted language learning (MALL) pada konteks yang berbeda telah dilakukan yang menunjukkan banyak manfaat dari penggunaan MALL untuk pengajaran bahasa inggris. Tetapi, hanya sedikit penelitian terhadap MALL dilakukan di perguruan tinggi di Indonesia, khususnya di Bali. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi persepsi mahasiswa terhadap kemudahan penggunaan MALL di perguruan tinggi. Metode campuran sekuensial eksplanatif digunakan untuk menganalisis data. Kuisioner survei yang diadaptasi dari Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data secara kuantitatif dan wawancara digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data secara kualitatif. 163 mahasiswa dari program studi pendidikan bahasa inggris dipilih secara acak sebagai sampel untuk penelitian ini. Sesi wawancara melibatkan 10 mahasiswa yang dipilih secara acak dari seluruh sampel. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa mereka memiliki persepsi yang positif terhadap penggunaan MALL di dalam pengajaran bahasa inggris. Mereka percaya bahwa MALL sangat mudah digunakan yang membawa banyak manfaat bagi mereka. Hasil-hasil tersebut memiliki implikasi kepada perancang kurikulum dan dosen untuk mengembangkan pembelajaran yang interaktif dan otonomi di luar konteks ruang kelas.Kata Kunci : MALL, Perangkat seluler, Persepsi, TAM. The development of technology in 21st century has brought many changes to education. One of the changes is the use of mobile devices as effective and significant aids to English language learning. Many studies about mobile assisted language learning (MALL) in different contexts have been conducted that indicate the advantages of MALL for English Language Learning. However, there are still few studies on MALL conducted in higher education in Indonesia, especially in Bali. Therefore, this research was aimed to investigate students’ perception on the perceived of ease of use of MALL in higher education. Explanatory sequential mixed method was used to analyze the data. Survey questionnaire adapted from Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used to collect data quantitatively and interview guide were used to collect the data qualitatively. 163 English Language Education students were chosen randomly as the sample for this study. The interview involved 10 students who were selected randomly from the sample. The results show that the participants had positive perceptions toward the ease of use of MALL in English language learning. They believed that MALL is very easy to use that brings many advantages form them. These results have implication for the curriculum designers and lecturers to develop an interactive and autonomous learning beyond the classroom context.keyword : MALL, Mobile devices, Perceived of Ease of Use, Perception, TAM.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki persepsi siswa tentang e-learning. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa terhadap pemanfaatan teknologi informasi terutama e-learning dalam pembelajaran di kelas. Data penelitian dikumpulkan di Program Studi Bahasa Inggris UNDIKSHA dengan 80 kuesioner. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas siswa berpendapat bahwa e-learning adalah ide inovatif dan harus didorong. Dan pembelajaran hybrid, yang merupakan kombinasi dari pembelajaran online dan pembelajaran tatap muka, adalah cara belajar yang disukai responden. Kata Kunci : E-learning, Model penerimaan teknologi (TAM), pembelajaran berbasis web, pembelajaran hybrid, pembelajaran sepenuhnya online. This study aims to investigate students' perceptions of e-learning. This research was conducted to determine students' perceptions in the use of information technology, especially e-learning in classroom learning. The research data were collected at English Language Education of UNDIKSHA with 80 questionnaires. The outcomes of the study showed the majority of the students think e-learning is an innovative idea and must be encouraged. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ada atau tidaknya perbedaan yang signifikan pada pemahaman membaca siswa kelas X di SMA N 1 Singaraja yang diajar melalui strategi mengajar timbal balik dan strategi konvensional. Desain penelitian ini adalah eksperimental semu dengan menggunakan desain kelompok kontrol post-test. Populasinya adalah siswa kelas X SMA N 1 Singaraja. Pengambilan sampel acak kluster digunakan untuk memilih sampel. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa X MIA3 dan X MIA2. Setiap kelas terdiri dari 32 siswa. Kelompok eksperimen diajarkan melalui strategi pengajaran timbal balik sementara kelompok kontrol diajarkan melalui strategi konvensional. Post-test dilakukan untuk mengumpulkan data. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial dengan menggunakan IMB SPSS Statistics 25. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa kelompok eksperimen memperoleh skor yang lebih baik daripada kelompok kontrol. Nilai rata-rata untuk kelompok eksperimen adalah 70,84 sementara kelompok kontrol memperoleh 65,93. Statistik inferensial dilakukan dengan melakukan uji-t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa to > tcv (12.029 > 1.99897). Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dari penerapan Strategi Pengajaran Reciprocal pada pemahaman membaca siswa kelas sepuluh di SMA N 1 Singaraja diterima. Ukuran efek dari penelitian ini adalah 0,50725. Itu diklasifikasikan ke dalam efek sedang.Kata Kunci : Eksperimen, Pemahaman Membaca, Strategi Mengajar Timbal-Balik This study aimed at determining whether or not there was a significant difference on tenth grade students’ reading comprehension in SMA N 1 Singaraja who were taught by using reciprocal teaching strategy and conventional strategy. The design of this study was quasi-experimental design utilizing post-test only control group design. The population was tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Singaraja. Cluster random sampling was used to select the sample. The samples of this study were X MIA3 and X MIA2 students. Each class consisted of 32 students. The experimental group was taught by using reciprocal teaching strategy meanwhile control group was taught by using conventional strategy. Post-test was conducted to collect the data. The data was analyzed descriptively and inferentially by using IMB SPSS Statistics 25. The result showed that experimental group obtained better score than control group. The mean score for experimental group was 70.84 while control group obtained 65.93. Inferential statistics was done by conducting t-test. The result showed that to > tcv (2.029 > 1.99897). It indicated that stated there is a significant different of the implementation of Reciprocal Teaching Strategy on tenth grade students’ reading comprehension in SMA N 1 Singaraja was accepted. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penguatan yang digunakan guru terhadap siswa dengan Attention Deficiti Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) di Aura Sukma Insani Bilingual Kindergarten. Fokus dari penelitian ini adalah jenis reinforcement yang digunakan, respon dari siswa ADHD serta pengaruhnya terhadap perilaku dan hasil belajar dari siswa ADHD. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan deskpripsi kualitatif dalam bentuk studi kasus dengan melibatan guru dan siswa ADHD. Objek penelitian ini adalah penguatan yang digunakan oleh guru terhadap siswa ADHD selama proses pembelajaran. Data dikumpulkan dengan melakukan observasi dengan menggunakan lembar observasi, merekam vidio, kuesioner dan wawancara. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, peneliti menemukan bahwa guru di kedua kelas menggunakan penguatan positif dalam bentuk lisan maupun tindakan, seperti memanggil nama setelah meberikan pujian, memberikan tanggung jawab, memilih siswa ADHD terlebih dahulu, memberikan senyuman, menunjukan jempol, duduk dekat siswa ADHD, melakukan tos dan memberikan stempel. Selain itu, penggunaan penguatan negatif, seperti memberikan peringatan, pilihan, menunjukan gerak/isyarat dan mengambil beberapa barang yang hasilnya didukung oleh persepsi dari guru yang menyatakan bahwa penguatan memberikan pengaruh terhadap perkembangan sikap yang baik serta kemampuan siswa ADHD selama proses pembelajaran.Kata Kunci : Hasil belajar, penguatan, perilaku, siswa ADHD This study aimed to analyze the reinforcement used by teachers towards student with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at Aura Sukma Insani Bilingual Kindergarten. The focus of this study was the types of reinforcements, the ADHD students’ responses, and its impact towards the ADHD students’ behavior and learning outcomes. This study used descriptive qualitative in the form of case study by involving the teachers and ADHD students. The objects of this study were the reinforcements used by the teachers towards the ADHD students during teaching and learning process. The data were collected by conducting observation with observation sheets, video recording, questionnaire, and interview. Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that the teachers used positive reinforcement both verbal and non-verbal, such as calling name after praising, giving responsibility, choosing ADHD student firstly, giving smile, showing thumb up, sit near ADHD students, high-five and giving stamp. Moreover, the negative reinforcements were giving warning, giving choice, showing gestures and taking things in which supported with the teachers’ perception which stated that reinforcement could give impact towards the improvement of the good behavior of ADHD students, included with their ability in learning during teaching and learning process.keyword : ADHD students, behavior, learning outcomes, reinforcement

Abstract

This qualitative research aimed at (1) finding out the types of communication strategies used by teacher during English teaching and learning proses; (2) analysing the English teacher?s reasons in applying the communication strategies; (3) analysing the students` perception toward the implementation of communication strategies used by the teacher. The subjects of this study were English teacher and XI grade students of SMA Saraswati Singaraja. The data were collected through direct observation and interview. Besides, observation sheet, video recorder, voice recorder, interview guide and field note were also used to collect the data. The result of this research showed that there were 14 types of communication strategies which were applied by the teacher namely: literal translation, code switching, non-linguistics signal, message abandonment, circumlocution, self-repair, approximation, use of fillers or time-gaining strategy, repetition, comprehension check, asking for repetition, guessing, interpretive summary, and response. From those strategies, code switching was the strategy that was most frequently used by the teacher during the process of teaching and learning. Meanwhile, message abandonment and interpretive summary had the lowest frequency of occurrence during the teaching and learning process. The teacher`s reasons for applying those communication strategies were to overcome the communication barriers that occur between the teacher and the students, to help the students understand and memorize the material easier. Moreover, the other teacher`s reasons for applying communication strategies were to make the learning process more interesting and make the students more focus to the lesson. The result of the interview also showed that the students had good perception toward the implementation of communication strategies used by the teacher in the classroom. keyword : communication strategies, English teacher, Dornyei and Scott`s theory, qualitative study.
