Abstract

Of 19 types of vegetables, tomato was the one that produced the largest in 2014.  The production was 10,731 tons harvested from an area of 2,137 ha.  However, it is a decrease from the production in 2011 which was 65,120 tons from an area of 5,745 (BPS, 2015). The decline in yields and productivity of tomatoes is caused by Bactocera sp. fruit fly infestation. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of various traps having different colors to capture fruit fly in tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.). This research was done in Sidera village, Sigi Biromaru sub district, Sigi regency of Central Sulawesi province, from June to August 2016. This study used a Randomized Block design (RAK) consisting of five treatments with five replicates.  The yellow trap caught most fruit flies ranging from 9.60 to 48.00 flies leading to low intensity attacks of 14% to 18% with the tomato production of 0.58-0.95 tons/ha.  The lowest number of fruit flies caught was by the transparent trap ranging  from 3.40 to 15.60flies indicating a higher intensity attacks of 20% to 36% and resulting in lower tomato production of 0.46 to 0.60 tons/ha.

Abstract

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is commonly grown in cold and tropical regions. Lettuce isa seasonal plant consisting of large amount of water. This study used a Randomized Block design (RBD) in a two-factorial experiment. The EM4 was applied at two rates i.e. without EM4 (control, e0) and 5 ml/l.  The chicken manure were added at four differen rates i.e. without manure (control, p0), 5 t/ha (p1), 10 t/ha (p2) and 15 t/ha (p3).  The variables observed were plant height, leaf number, plant and root fresh weight, and plant and root dried weight and leaf area. Highest plant height, largest leaf area, largest root fresh and dried weights were found in the e0 p2 treatment.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of plant spacing and various amounts/ratios of NPK fertilizerson the growth and nitrogen uptake of wetland rice (Oryza sativa L.) varieties IR 64. The experimental design was a two-factorial Split Plot in a Randomized Block design. Two plant spacing types as the main plots i.e. symmetrical (s1) and Legowo (s2) were applied.  The various ratiosof NPK fertilzers as the sub plots consisted of 200 kg :75 kg : 50 kg per ha (p1), 250 kg : 100 kg :75 kg per ha (p2), 300 kg :125 kg :100 kg per ha (p3), and 350 kg :150 kg : 125 kg per ha (p4). There were eight combination treatments and each had three replicates. The results showed that the interaction between the plant spacing and the NPK fertilizer significantly affect tiller number, panicles per clump and nitrogen uptake.  Highest tiller number, panicles per clump and nitrogen uptake were found in the s2p4 treatment which were  67.50, 30.50 and 125.60 kg, respectively, whereas lowest ones were in the s1p1 which were 26.50, 13.52 and 51.66 kg, respectively.

Abstract

The research aimed at identifying the morphology of mycorrhizal arbuscular fungi (MAF) on the root zones of different horticultural crops (peppers, potato, leek, cabbage, tomato and chicory) in Nupabomba village Tanatovea sub district of Donggala.  It was descriptive exploratory study and conducted from October to December 2015. Samples of soil were purposively taken around the root zone and analyzed for its chemical and physical characteristics as well as for mycorrhizae  spore isolation and its identification.  The research results showed that the highest spore number of 303 spores per 10 g was found in the leek plantation whereas the lowest number of 43 spores per 10 g in the potatoes plantation.  There are four types of spore genus i.e. Acaulaspora, Entrophospora, Glomus and Paraglomu.  The Glomus genus was the dominant spores found in all types of the horticultural plantations.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the diversity and the evenness ofinsects as well as the production of soybean plants (Glycine max L.) sprayed with and withoutinsecticide. This research was conducted in March to July 2016 and located in Sidera village, Sigi Biromaru  , Central Sulawesi province. The identification of the insects was done at the Plant Pests and Diseases Laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture of Tadulako University. The number of families and species of the insects was not affected by the insecticide sprayed but on their individual number.  The diversity of the insects under the soybean plantation both sprayed and un-sprayed was categorically moderate.  However, the spraying could increase the production up to 3 t/ha compared to the non-spraying which was only2.21 t/ha.

Abstract

This research aim was toevaluate land suitability for dragon fruit plantation in  Maku village, Dolo sub district, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. Seven land units were evaluated for their suitability. Survey was conducted in seven land units for observation on soil drainage, slope, stones, and root depth. Undisturbed and disturbed soil sample were taken from each land unit for physical and chemical analyses in the Soil Laboratory of Agriculture Faculty Tadulako University.  Of the seven land units, one land unit was classified as actual N1 (currently not suitable), another one land unit as S2 (moderately suitable) whereas the other five land units were categorized as actual S3(marginally suitable). The limiting factorsconsisted of texture, water, and soil pH. By correcting all the limiting factors existing in all land units, the actual classes of N1, S3 and S2 can be changed into the potential classes of S3, S2, and S1, respectively.
