Abstract

Rosela is one of medicinal herbs. The aim of the study was to find out the hypoglycemic effect of oral intake of Rosela extract on diabetic white rat. This research apllied Complete Randomized Design of four groups with five replications to each. The treatment for those groups was: no treatment, insulin 5 unit/kg body weight, 250 mg/kg body weight of Rosela extract, and 500 mg/kg body weight of Rosela extract. The parameters used were fasting blood glucose concentration and blood glucose concentrations at the 60th and 120th minutes. The result showed that the extract of Rosela decreased blood glucose concentration. The treatment with Rosela extract 250 mg decreased blood glucose concentrations as much as 24,32%, while  that with Rosela extract 500 mg decreased blood glucose concentration as much as 32,44%.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to identify the antecedents of affective commitment by testing the direct or indirect impact of job involvement, distributive justice, and significant procedural justice toward affective commitment through job satisfaction as mediating variable. The research subjects were the full-time lecturers of private higher learning institutions in Madiun, Ngawi, and Ponorogo. The sample was 100. The research instrument was questionnaires based on Likert scale on 5 point. The data were analyzed by the use of path analysis by AMOS 5.0 and stepwise multiple regression by SPSS 12.0 package software. The result of path analysis showed that: 1) job involvement, distributive justice, and procedural justice had a significant direct effect on job satisfaction and job satisfaction had a significant direct effect on affective commitment, 2) job involvement had a significant direct effect on affective commitment, 3) job involvement, distributive justice, and procedural justice had a significant indirect effect on affective commitment through job satisfaction as mediating variable.

Abstract

This research was of three objectives: (a) to examine the relationship between sex role and interpersonal competence of adolescence, (b) to examine whether there was some difference of interpersonal competence of adolescence due to sex role, and (c) to examine whether there was some difference  of  interpersonal  competence of adolescence due to gender. The sample of this research was 288, consisting of 125 boys and 163 girls. The data were collected using questionnaires. The first questionnaire was used to measure the levels of interpersonal competence, while the second one was aimed to assess the levels of sex role. The data were analyzed statistically by the use of Product Moment and analysis t-test. The research findings showed that there was a positive relationship between the degree of sex role and the levels of interpersonal competence of adolescence rxy 0,170, high significance 0.000. Furthermore, the androgyny had a higher level of interpersonal competence of adolescence than the uncategorized (androgyny mean 145.69 and uncategorized mean 133.07), and the girls had a higher level of interpersonal competence than the boys (mean 146, and 151.07).

Abstract

Global financial crisis creates some crucial impacts for Indonesia. A lot of companies are forced to fire their employees significantly, as an effect of the decline of foreign demand on Indonesian products. Besides the impacts on financial and banking sectors, global financial crisis also causes some great problems on industrial sectors, which employ so many workers, such as mining, energy, textile, garment, shoes, automotive, and food-beverage industries. For Indonesian companies, the problems become greater because of the increase of credit interest offered by commercial banks (in line with the increase of Indonesia Central Bank rates), less credit realization, and the decrease of peoples’ purchasing power. There are four alternatives for the companies to survive in the crisis: (1) being defensive more than offensive, (2) giving priority to prospective customers, (3) being creative, and (4) optimalizing domestic markets.

Abstract

Early dating is dating arranged by a couple of opposite sex, both or one of whom is a teenager under 14 years old.  A couple of early dating mostly consists of an adult man and a girl of minor age. Audio-visual mass media, like television and wide-screen movie in a cinema, influence and provoke the teenagers to begin early dating. Early dating causes a high risk since the persons involved do not possess adequate mental stability and psychological maturity to make a good and right decision. In early dating the teenagers  easily get bored with their couple because they do not know their purpose to do a dating.  Those who begin dating at very early age  more frequently catch headache, abdominal trouble and waist pains. They risk to be a fragile person of  poor health, unsecured feeling and depression.

Abstract

This study aimed to search the influence of service quality toward customers’ satisfaction on Internet Service Provider (ISP) B-Net Palembang. This research is a case study. Data collecting was done by disseminating questionnaires to 128 respondents as the users of the service B-Net ISP service in Palembang. To obtain the sample, census technique was applied. After the questionnaires were completed by respondents, data analysis was conducted using quantitative and qualitative methods or discussion. The result of the analysis showed that the respondents’ perception was positive. They thought that the quality of services given by B-Net ISP Palembang was good enough. In fact, there were still some aspects that needed improving, particularly the ones concening the dimensions of reliability such as attitudes and employee services provided by ISP B - Net Palembang, assurence dimension namely, employees’ competence of B-Net ISP Palembang, and emphaty dimension, that is, the employees’ ability of B-Net ISP Palembang to understand customers’ needs. Meanwhile, the respondents' expectation revealed that almost all dimensions of the internet services provided by ISP Palembang B-Net were important to improve and develop continually in order to further increase customers’ satisfaction. Consumers were generally satisfied with the products or services offered and even they recommended to others.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan gambaran penderitaan perang. Wilferd Owen, penulis puisi Inggris, menceritakan penderitaan perang yang dialami seorang anak muda dalam puisinya "Disabled". Owen hidup pada masa Perang Dunia Pertama dan bergabung dalam Angkatan Bersenjata Inggris. Wilfred Owen  dikenal sebagai penulis puisi yang bertemakan Perang. "Disabaled" menceritakan penderitaan tentara muda yang bergabung dalam Perang Dunia Pertama. Owen menggunakan ironi dalam mengungkapkan perbedaan antara mimpi dan kenyataan. Impian sebelum bergabung dalam perang berbeda dengan kenyataan  setelah kembali dari perang dengan keadaannya yang tidak sempurna. Pada puisi "Disabled",  Wilfred Owen mengungkapkan secara tersirat bahwa perang telah menghancurkan kehidupan para korbannya.

Abstract

One of the motivation theories getting more positive appreciation in organizational management is Needs Hierarchy Theory of Abraham Maslow. He said that everyone has individual organized hierarchial needs from the bottom level to the top level. If the Needs Hierarchy Theory is applied in education, it may be expected to build the effectiveness of learning processes. Universities and/or higher learning colleges will be able to fulfill students’ needs in line with Maslow’s theory to improve their learning motivation. The crucial things of Maslow’s Hierarchy Needs Theory to increase students’ motivation lie between basic needs and growth needs. Universities and/or higher learning colleges should accomplish students’ basic needs in order to avoid learning disturbances or provide the balance of students’ learning needs.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the relation between social competence and social adaptation on youths. Besides, it was also meant to search the difference of social adaptation among  youths (boys and girls). The population of the research was  986 high school students in Kota and Kabupaten Madiun. The sample of the research was 288 students, comprising 125 boys and 163 girls. The data were collected by the use of one scale and one questionnaire namely, social adaptation scale and social competence questionnaire. The data were analyzed  using Product Moment Correlation and T- test. The result of the data analysis showed  that: 1) there was positive and very significant relation between social competence and social adaptation on youths with rxy 0.154, at significance level 0.000 (p < 0.05)  and 2) there was very significant difference of  social adaptation among youths based on sex (boys and girls). Social adaptation level on  t was 5.704 at significance level 0.000 (p < 0.05). Girls had higher social adaptation than boys.

Abstract

Indonesia Sustainability Reporting Award (ISRA) is an award awarded to companies with good performance on Sustainability Reporting (SR). Sustainability Reporting is related to company’s capability in economic affairs, environment, and social responsibility. It is an effective means to keep  reputation, build a stakeholder’s trust, and increase company’s value for investors. ISRA is expected to give a positive contribution to companies which were awarded ISRA  in order to be trusted by investors. Yet, whether those companies were indeed getting investors’ trust was unknown. The aim of this research was to examine the impact of ISRA awarding on stock price. Here, Paired Sample T-test was applied with abnormal return variable. The result of the research showed that the announcement of ISRA receivers didn't have any significant effect on investors’ trust. In other words, the announcement of ISRA  receivers didn't have information content; hence, it  didn't increase investors’  trust.
