Abstract

This article explores political marketing communication as a means of political communication using concept and marketing communication techniques to buy political product. According to the goals (such as position, title, and wealth), what considered as political communication products in its broadest terms are leadership, institution, membership, policy, and political activities. Principles, methods, and stages of political communication must be attended seriously so that the product being sold would be embraced by political audience.

Abstract

Phenomenology, initially, is a philosophy made popular by Edmund Husserl. Phenomenology, in essential, taught people to interact and learn more from phenomenon so that the meaning of reality, and the natural essence of reality, could be grasped by the observer. Phenomenology today develops as one of fundamental research method whose assumptions respect human uniqueness and subjective experiences. Phenomenon as experienced consciously by human was analyzed by two descriptions: textual description and scriptural description.

Abstract

According to Hofstede, there are many approach to define culture: (1) culture as symbols; (2) culture as expressed by heroes; (3) culture as rituals; and (4) culture as a set of values. There are also many ways to investigate culture from communication perspective—ethnography of communication is one of them. Based on Lindlof and Taylor definition about ethnography of communication, this article outlined many issues from the definition of ethnography to methods, perspective and analysis unit. Ethnography of communication is a unique method of communication research that could be applied in many communication activities.

Abstract

Polygamy (and also anti-polygamy) always become hot issue in Indonesia. There are at least two national events which reintroduced polygamy discourse: the second-marriage of famous religious leader—KH Abdullah Gymnastiar, and pornographic video depicting sexual relationship between Yahya Zaini—a high political figure—and Maria Eva—a wannabe celebrity. A strong and emotional debate over those two events marginalized the main issue of polygamy itself in the world of Islam. A critical discourse analysis toward polygamy discourse has found that marginalization practices are conducted even by prominent members of Islamic organizations and intellectuals, as well as members of legislative body. It turned out that polygamy discourse was biased and misrepresented.

Abstract

Baduy community is one of ethnics known as Isoated Custom Comunity (Komunitas Adat Terpencil). The research is a quantitative research, using survey methode. The data was colected from sample of population. The research is aimed to describe the correlation and effect among variables by hypotesis test, called as explanatory research. The result shows that social distance in Baduy Dalam Community deeply determines the effectivity of Ciboleger communication. It means, the farther social distance in Baduy Community is the less effective Ciboleger communication is. Discriminations in Baduy Dalam Community does not determine the communication effectiveness in Ciboleger Community. Social distance both in Baduy Dalam and Baduy Luar effects one to another in term of effective communication between them. Social distance in Baduy Dalam effects their communication with Baduy Luar. The farther social distance in Baduy Dalam is, the less effective the communication is. Discrimination in Baduy Dalam community deeply determines the communication effectiveness with Baduy Luar.

Abstract

This controversy looks like never ending: Did Islam permitt a woman to become a president? Before SI 2001, the polemic of that problem still happened, even more strict. It is not strange if mass media gave bigger covering on that issue. Abstract

Umaro, ulama and jawara in Menes Banten are local elites, who have important roles and influence in the society. The umaro has a strong influence in the network power of governance, the ulama has a strong influence in the field of religion, and the jawara has a strong influence in the field of culture and traditional customs. This research was conducted using qualitative approach to the elite of umaro, jawara, and ulama. Data is obtained from informants who played the role of umaro, jawara and ulama in the district of Menes Banten by using circumstantial interview, involves observation and document study. Data analysis used a qualitative method pattern. Research result indicated that communication umaro elites towards jawara and ulama couldnot be avoided from management of impression, verbally or nonverball.

Abstract

The expectation to send the victory of Indonesian comics as well as in 1960 is getting wider. The rising of Indonesian youth comic maker through the big or Indy publishing house is one of the indications. But the expectation would be blown by a lot of problems. The problems are the quality of drawing and story line from young comic maker that still adopts Japanese style, the existence of porn illegal comics decreases attention of reader to read local comics, suboptimal controlling of government to illegal publishing and the pride less of our society to their own products. Teamwork from a lot of element with each portion is a must to handle the problems, so we can hope that foreign comic which is some time inappropriate with our culture not dominate Indonesian comics industry anymore.
