Abstract

In order to gain the predicate of Good Corporate Government, some government bureaus have managed to run strategic moves. PT Telkom was among those whose ambitions was to be the best e-government organization. The success of such program was never easy because many factors contributed on such matters. One of crucial factors contributed for the creating a good exemplar of Good Corporate Government is the workforce group, especially on the workers ability for working. To implement a good working performance, PT Telkom created a corporate culture reflected some ideal values, i.e.  Cleanliness,  Transparency, and Professionalism. It was the role of leaders then to socialize the values. Leaders have responsibilities to motivate workers in his unit. Motivation derived from many sources: given materials, communication activity,  financial/material rewards, and so on. This paper examinee how leader’s ethos could be very effective in influencing workers motivation.  In order to do so, ethos concept is divided by three aspects: credibility, attraction, and power. Research results show that the influence of leader’s credibility toward motivation is insignificant. On the other hand, there is significant relationship between appeals and leader’s power toward workers/staff motivation.

Abstract

Political campaign on 2004 was marked by monologue campaigns in the form of mass rally and mass gathering. Information dissemination for the mass was carried out by placing signpost, banners, and pamphlets depicting party’s symbol. This kind of campaign belonged to one way communication. Both political party and political leaders were failed to gain feedback from the mass, whereas feedback reflected public’s needs and wishes. As  consequences, monologue campaigns provide us with low quality campaign oriented toward figures, not their programs. Considering this, a dialogues form of campaign is offered for repairing ineffective political communication between party and people. Dialogical campaigns establish a two-way-communication between party and public, provide ways to clearly communicate problems surrounding the whole situation packaged with party’s point of view and its solutions. By conducting dialogical campaign which reflected a-two-way- communication, campaigners and policymakers would benefit from the exchange of public aspirations along the process.

Abstract

In the beginning, media was established as an integral part of public sphere. As the world changed, media turned to be commercialized as commodity by mass distribution operation. Media was also sold to advertisers which use media facilities to reach their customers. This turnover had moved media more and more far away from the ideal of public sphere. It amounted when contents of media were dominated by less educated and less morality program. In order to implement public broadcasting media, an effort to create public sphere was badly needed. One of such effort was  transformation of TVRI status to Public   Broadcasting Organization by UU No. 32/Th. 2002. But, in reality, the operationalization of TVRI as Public TV still face some obstacles. This paper examines several regulation barriers faced by TVRI that prevent an ideal public sphere.

Abstract

Word of mouth (WOM) is a self-spreading chained series of communication in a certain community. The term ‘mouth’ was derived from the fact that the mode of message delivery in WOM is mainly orally, informally, and personally—reflecting the ways we had been talking each other in daily conversation. Technological advance has broadening the scope of WOM. Through the Internet, WOM appears in many digital communication features such as website, online profile pages, personal blog postings, and of course, exchanging mails. WOM, in many ways, has enriched conversation content by exchanging information, knowledge, views, and so on. In a collectivist society like Indonesia, WOM melted—in fact integrated within families (family, clans, working class, etc.). Traditionally, WOM occured when people interested in certain topic. As a form of communication, WOM could be developed as reference channel to popularize a brand (product). This is due because audience believe more to message delivered by somebody they know or respected by them.

Abstract

Selamat membaca.Penyunting.

Abstract

Symbolic interaction focuses on ‘interpretation’ over subjective meaning derived from interaction of people with the others of his/her environment. As stated clearly in its name, symbolic interaction emphasized a close relationship—an exchange— between symbol and interaction. These exchanges produced special meanings and interpretations, unique for each person involved. Symbolic is derived from the word ‘symbol’ which means signs resulted from consensus. Symbolic Interaction tried to ‘entering’ meaning process and subject defining by employing participant observation to watch carefully how subject define themselves and their actions respectfully, based on definitions and meanings given by others in their environment.
