Abstract

For the most part of society, the quality of public service is far from hope. There were so many problems concerning public service today. One among them was the lack of government capabilities to deal with a very large area and numerous characters. For communication studies, a good public service was influenced by an excellent communication system. There are factors to be deal with: the optimum performance of Public Relations, equal distribution of communication/information, easy access for public, easy access for information, stabilized political situation, and the same pattern of thinking between government and communication manager.

Abstract

The research is aimed to find out the “Coalition for Freedom of Information” activity, or Coalition, that can be categorized public diplomacy, its relationship with implementing the government as the requirement to realize the good governance, and to get to know the relationship between good governance and the image building of Indonesia. The principles of public relations are used as the approach in analyzing the phenomenon of public diplomacy used by Coalition. This research was conducted by using the qualitative approach through constructivist paradigm toward the Coalition attitude in applying the public diplomacy. This research used both the key and supporting informa collecting was conducted by interview, observation, participation, and documentary study about the Coalition activity as well as the delphi technique. The data analysis was carried out as long as the research went on through the intersubjective commitment to focus being researched. The research gained some findings which involved: (a) The “Coalition for Freedom of Information” activity in public diplomacy can be done by the public relations approach using some activity categories, (b) The “Coalition for freedom of information” performance is focused on the efforts to uphold the law concerning freedom of access to public information in supporting the realization of good governance, (c) The public diplomacy activity applied by the Coalition through its advocacy was considered successful which can be seen by the local government rules concerning the implementation of participative and transparent government, (d) The model with the integrated public diplomacy potency and the synergy between the state actor and the non-state actor possessing their own structural authority and legality in the information service system for all public elements can build the positive image of Indonesia.

Abstract

Planning is a crucial stage which could determine and leverage activities’ success. There are many approach to build a plan to implement activities. This article explores BATNA Methods (Best Alternative to Negotiate Agreement) as an approach based on negotiation plan. Providing the Case of Indonesian-Singapore Defense Cooperation Agreement as case being studied, it was concluded that the lack of BATNA has contribute a loss for Indonesia. More concessions were given to Singapore by Indonesian in that agreement, and caused a potential disadvantage for RI government.

Abstract

In the last decades there were a tendency to make public institution more open and greater public participation in decision making. It is believed that transparency is the only way to strengthen public institutions which it is highly possible because of the progress in Information and Communication Technology. Nowadays Indonesia is entering the Era of Opennes. The idea of civil society and establisihng social welfare which is the first priority require partnership between the government and public. The whole stakeholder should cooperate to improve accessibility on ICT and should develope information and communication infra structure, and should improve application of ICT in every aspect of public services.

Abstract

The research on media impact has already been numerous and some theories of media impact overcome its doubt. Research on the media impact of socialization, however is rarely conducted since it is difficult to determine the parameters. The socializations itself is a time consuming process. The research is intended to describe behaviour pattern related to the programmes in the media namely news programme, that is to find out the response, to describe students behaviour in using the information from television, to know studens responses in waching news programme through socialization, to find out involvement (impact) of gender variable toward the habis in waching news programme. The research shows that: news programme plays a role as complementer information source for student to know politic about government board, like executive, legislative or yudicative board; students try to find information not only from one channel but also from other private –owned channels as alternative to get information; based on this research, parent friends and school environment will play important role on the level of knowledge realization about credible politic. The analisys shows that gender can influence response from students in waching news. Through students socialization, the impact of news programme, impact more to men than women. Before probing this research further, it should be noted that socialization values mentioned here are not a real political participation (for example by participating in one of the political party). The socialization is meant as an attempt to shape thought, attitude and behaviour orientations on certain values which later develop as internalization process.

Abstract

According to Marshall McLuhan, the world has become a global village where modern communication media opened up unlimited interactions among people all over the world. Among other things, mass communication channel has rapidly developed, allowing greater mass of information transmissions to be spread for all members of society in no time. Unfortunately, the rapid development of mass media was not followed by better quality in terms of media content. Infotainments were everywhere, offering latest report concerning celebrity news in detail, and raising serious questions concerning ethics, privacy, public policy, and news quality today.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to give result qualitative data through phenomenological approach and symbolic interaction about tattoos among its users. The focus of this research includes its development, motivation and the process of making tattoo, symbolic meaning and impression management were done in communication among tattoo users in Bandung. The research informant in this research was 24 tattoo permanent users with using purposive sampling. The data collecting used in this research were observation, depth interview and documentation/archive study. The result of this research showed that tattoo users could be categorized based on: Reasons, contact and immanent tattoo users; motive, past and future orientation tattoo users; design, classical, modern, and contemporary tattoo users; Tattoo placing, open and close tattoo users, and studio preferences, safe and risk tattoo users. In addition, tattoo artists could be categorized in; the period of profession, past and current tattoo artist; the tool in making tattoo, traditional and modern; the process of tattooing, safe and risk; skills, independent learner artist and special learning learner artist; the place of tattoo making, professional and street vendor artist.

Abstract

The development of transportation industry has removed the train business from its monopolistic business. Sooner or later, the government will open up opportunity for private parties to participate in the train business. In order to successfully anticipate this future, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) needs to change its communication strategy. Integrated Service Marketing Communication (ISMC) was recommended as a strategic approach covering management of service promise, management of customer expectation, customer education improvement, and management of internal marketing communication.

Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) nowadays becomes indicator of corporate achievement. CSR activities, which commonly defined as corporate efforts to increase community and stakeholder life quality, open up relations between corporate and community. In turn, CSR would maintain good image and give posing the positive publicity toward corporate image. This article explores CSR activities as implied on PR marketing in some corporates.

Abstract

US presidential elections become one of the hottest issues in political world nowadays. It draws attention not only from local federal countries, but also attracts international audiences as the candidates from Democrats are challenging each other. From political communication studies, the campaign stages of US presidential elections reflected a mature democratic political system which stands on many humanity values, such as truth, honesty, fairness, and respect for others. The issue toward candidate’s cleanliness was predicted would be determiner for each candidate whether or not they will move further in electoral process. People, or potential voters will count on cleanliness more than any other else.
