Abstract

This study examines the effect of agglomeration economies on productivity growth in Indonesian manufacturing industries for the period of 2008-2012. Productivity growth is measured by using Fare-Primont Productivity Index. The firm productivity growth is regressed against two types of agglomeration: specialisation and diversity. Then, it is also regressed against set of firm and industry characteristic variables : size, ownership, industry concentration, firm exit and firm entry. The results show that specialisation affects the industry positively while negative effect is encountered for diversity to the aggregate manufacturing industry.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify Causal Relationship of Gross Domestic Product, Real Import and Import of Capital Goods. The object used by this study is Indonesia with 17 years of time periods starting 2000 to 2016. This study used quantitative approach and time series method through Vector Autoregression model analysis. The result showed a causal relationship between its variables. Whilst the analysis of Variance Decomposition showed the contribution (percentage) of each variable which is still dominated by itself except the variable import of capital goods that is still dominated by imports of oil and gas and non-oil and gas. Based on impulse response analysis can be seen that the shock on the variable import of capital goods does not cause permanent effect while the import of raw materials of oil and gas and non-oil and gas have a permanent effect. The import relation on grossdomestic product shows indication of funding requirement as supporting import activity especially in oil and gas sector and non oil and gas sector.

Abstract

This study investigates the causal relationship between GDP and export in Indonesia for the period of 1996 to 2016. This study used a quantitative approach based on Granger causality. The data used are secondary data obtained from World Bank. This research use statistical test including unit root test, Johansen cointegration test, and Granger causality test. Research findings indicate one way causality from export to GDP, and supports the export-led growth hypothesis. The unit root test indicates that both of data are integrated or stationary at the same level (first difference), each data are stationary at the critical value 5% and 1%. Granger causality test indicates a one way causality relationship on short-term from export to GDP at the significance level 10%, and no causal relationship between both variables on long-term. Results indicate that there is one way causality relationship from export to GDP, which means that export affects GDP positively, growth on export will affect GDP positively. In order to raise GDP government should attempt to apply more trade policy that supports export growth.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the internal factor and external factor that can support or inhibit the development PT. Surabaya Container Terminal to support the role of containers in import export activities through Tanjung Perak Port. This study used a qualitative approach of data used in the form of secondary data and primary data. Primary data in this study was conducted through interviews, secondary data in the form of documents \provided by PT. Surabaya Container Terminal (TPS) such as documentation. The findings from this study indicate that PT. Surabaya Container Terminal has many potentials that can support the role of container in supporting import export, PT. Surabaya Container Terminal can provide container yard, loading and unloading tools that can support import export activities, PT. Surabaya Container Terminal has many service is container loading service, container unloading service, container receiving service and container dispending services. Obstacles encountered in this study are divided into 2 (two) problems of external problems and internal problems. External problems including bad weather can affect the timing of vessels as well as for the spread of container terms in import or export societies in Indonesia, which often creates problems in terms of responsibility for delivery of goods. Internal problems in this study include the complete lack of loading and unloading equipment and not all the equipment in PT. Surabaya Container Terminal uses modern technology, lack of skill from officer handling equipment for loading and unloading of container freight causing reduced loading and unloading speed, and less extent of container container field at PT. Surabaya Container Terminal which can lead to accumulation of containers that cross the line.
