Abstract

Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) developed based on mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET). VANET have different characteristics than MANET, on VANET mobile node (MN) moves faster, topology changes dynamically. The previous research shows that the model of mobility affects to the network performance. In this paper, the Gauss-Markov mobility model used to illustrate the motion of the MN, which illustrates changes of acceleration, speed, location, and direction at any time. This paper enriches the evaluation of the performance of Gauss-Markov mobility model on LTE-VANET hybrid network, by evaluating various network performance metrics, particularly, packet delivery ratio (PDR), throughput, and delay. This research evaluated the Gauss-Markov mobility model and performed with the number of nodes and randomness index (α) that varies by utilizing NS-3 software. The results show that there is a strong correlation between PDR, throughput, and delay with the addition number of MNs. Based on the simulation result, the hybrid LTE-VANET produce better delay compared to pure VANET. The average delay is smaller 40% compared to pure VANET. This simulation also concludes that different value of alpha on Gauss-Markov mobility model does not influence PDR, throughput, and delay.

Abstract

A passive Q-switched pulsed laser at 1.5 m region incorporating graphene nanoplatelets (GnPs) embedded in Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) is demonstrated. A surfactant is used to aid the dispersion of the GnPs before it is mixed with PVA to develop a GnPs-PVA film based SA. The SA is integrated into the laser cavity by attaching a cut of the GnPs-PVA film in between two fiber ferrule of the laser ring cavity. The proposed GnPs-PVA film based passive Q–switched laser was able to operate as the input pump power was increased from 39 mW up to a maximum of 148 mW before diminishing. The laser obtained operated with a central wavelength of 1530.76 nm. Repetition rates were obtained at 33 kHz to 91.5 kHz, throughout the tunable input pump power with the shortest pulse width of 2.42 s. Maximum attainable peak power and pulse energy of 1.2 mW and 5.9 nJ, respectively, was recorded, accompanied by a signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 28 dB.

Abstract

Nowadays social media has tremendously transformed organizational business process of institution. Higher Education as a place with the majority generation Y, that advances to use technology should realize these situations. With this social media platform, institution may facilitate the knowledge transfer process, then to support collaborative learning from e-learning to social learning. Referring to this phenomenon, this research will design the integration of concepts of knowledge management and social media as a framework to identify the significant components and its relationship to support each other. In this research, we use a systematic literature review from journal and text book to construct this collaboration model. The outcome of this study is collaboration model of knowledge management and social media to support learning process in higher education institution.

Abstract

In this paper, a new gender recognition approach in accordance with the fusion of features extracted from electromyogram (EMG) and heart rate variability (HRV) during stepping activity using a stair stepper device is proposed. The fusion of EMG and HRV is investigated based on feature fusion approach. The feature fusion is carried out by chaining the feature vector extracted from the EMG and HRV signals. A proposed approach comprises of a sequence of processing steps which are preprocessing, feature extraction, feature selection and the feature fusion. The results demonstrated that the fusion approach had enhanced the performance of gender recognition compared to solely on EMG or HRV for the gender recognition.

Abstract

In this paper, we proposed a work onrhetorical corpus construction andsentence classification model experiment that specifically could be incorporated in automatic paper title generation task for scientific article. Rhetorical classification is treated as sequence labeling. Rhetorical sentence classification model is useful in task which considers document’s discourse structure. We performed experiments using two domains of datasets: computer science (CS dataset), and chemistry (GaN dataset). We evaluated the models using 10-fold-cross validation (0.70-0.79 weighted average F-measure) as well as on-the-run (0.30-0.36 error rate at best). We argued that our models performed best when handled using SMOTE filter for imbalanced data

Abstract

This paper described the new system of biosensing using CMOS chip. The system was expected to be used in various circumstances because it was suitable for miniaturization compared to the conventional system. To conduct electrochemical measurements, the new system used paper fluidic channel set on the CMOS chip to transport solution to the on-chip electrodes. The materials of paper fluidic channel were only paper and silicone resin, and these were biocompatible. In experiment, we carried out simultaneous detection of glucose and ethanol in liquid sample solutions on the 5mm square CMOS chip and paper fluidic channel. Furthermore, this system can detect various target molecules in addition to glucose and ethanol, and increase number of simultaneous measurement by adding some more process to the paper and CMOS chip.

Abstract

This paper describes a system that is designed to be able to receive packet voice signal using the Ethernet protocol in local networks using FPGA which was programmed decode the data packets. The digital data packets are then converted back into analog data that will be used to control another system. The design was implemented as four components consisting of frame starter unit, address matching unit, buffer unit and DAC processing unit. The system was designed on Xilinx development board using ISE design suite and simulated on ISIM. The test results showed that the system response was less than 40 ms. The result also showed that our proposed design only occupies 11% of number of slices and it also requires 5% of total IOBs on Xilinx Spartan 3-E.
