Abstract

This paper develops an adaptive control coordination scheme for power system stabilizers (PSSs) to improve the oscillation damping and dynamic performance of interconnected multimachine power system. The scheme was based on the use of a neural network which identifies online the optimal controller parameters. The inputs to the neural network include the active- and reactive- power of the synchronous generators which represent the power loading on the system, and elements of the reduced nodal impedance matrix for representing the power system configuration. The outputs of the neural network were the parameters of the PSSs which lead to optimal oscillation damping for the prevailing system configuration and operating condition. For a representative power system, the neural network has been trained and tested for a wide range of credible operating conditions and contingencies. Both eigenvalue calculations and time-domain simulations were used in the testing and verification of the performance of the neural network-based stabilizer.

Abstract

This paper describes a new risk assessment model for application development and its implementation. The model is developed using a Bayesian network and Boehm’s software risk principles. The Bayesian network is created after mapping top twenty risks in software projects with interrelationship digraph of risk area category. The probability of risk on the network is analyzed and validated using both numerical simulation and subjective probability from several experts in the field and a team of application developers. After obtaining the Bayesian network model, risk exposure is calculated using Boehm's risk principles. Finally, the implementation of the proposed model in a government institution is shown as a real case illustration.

Abstract

Warranty is an assurance issued by a company as the manufacturer to guarantee that its product is damage-free within a specified period. The warranty process is usually carried out when a complaint or damage regarding the product is received. The warranty process consists of two decisions that the company establishes to handle the process. The occurring problem is in the warranty process; there is not any standard established to determine the cost to incur for the warranty process. In this research, integer programming method was used to do optimization on repair and replacement strategy in warranty process. Before doing optimization, mathematical model must be created. Using that mathematical model, the results show that the costs of the warranty process decrease by 16.97%, while the time increases by 13.9%. So, with this method company will be increase the profit.

Abstract

Research on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) became popular because of remote flight access and cost-effective solution. 3-degree of freedom (3-DOF) unmanned helicopters is one of the popular research UAV, because of its high load carrying capacity with a smaller number of motor and requirement of forethought motor control dynamics. Various control algorithms are investigated and designed for the motion control of the 3DOF helicopter. Three-degree-of-freedom helicopter model configuration presents the same advantages of 3-DOF helicopters along with increased payload capacity, increase stability in hover, manoeuvrability and reduced mechanical complexity. Numerous research institutes have chosen the three-degree-of-freedom as an ideal platform to develop intelligent controllers. In this research paper, we discussed about a hybrid controller that combined with Adaptive and Quantitative Feedback theory (QFT) controller for the 3-DOF helicopter model. Though research on Adaptive and QFT controller are not a new subject, the first successful single Adaptive aircraft flight control systems have been designed for the U.S. Air Force in Wright Laboratories unmanned research vehicle, Lambda [1]. Previously researcher focused on structured uncertainties associated with controller for the flight conditions theoretically. The development of simulationbased design on flight control system response, opened a new dimension for researcher to design physical flight controller for plant parameter uncertainties. At the beginning, our research was to investigates the possibility of developing the QFT combined with Adaptive controller to control a single pitch angle that meets flying quality conditions of automatic flight control. Finally, we successfully designed the hybrid controller that is QFT based adaptive controller for all the three angles.

Abstract

This paper presents the construction of a Rogowski Coil sensor with an air core to detect partial discharge using a digital oscilloscope. Two types of sensors are used. The first is the primary sensor winding with back wire, and the second is without back wire, labeled BW and WBW, respectively. The numbers of primary-turn in the sensors are 5, 10, 20, and 40 turns. The performance of the sensors is tested using two types of tests. First, the wave response test with a fixed imitation partial discharge magnitude input is used to select the optimum sensitivity with the lower sampling rate, aims to select the peak or valley value as a magnitude partial discharge value. The second test is using an imitation partial discharge ramp to check the linearity of the sensors. The imitation of the partial discharge inputs is generated by a commercial charge calibrator. The wave response test results show an increase in the number of turns that corresponds to an increase of the sensor output for both sensors in a non-linear trend. In determining the sampling rate, the detection of magnitude in the valley is better than the peak. All sensors act linear toward the imitation partial discharge ramp either in BW or WBW conditions.

Abstract

The weakness of the orthogonal freuency division multiplexing (OFDM) system is susceptible to the existence of carrier frequency offset (CFO) which causes the emergence of inter carrier interference (ICI) which causes a degradation of performance OFDM systems. This study aims to apply the suggested rectangular (REC) pulse and improved sinc-power (ISP) pulse shaping methods on OFDM system and determines ICI reduction with the effects of CFO over flat fading Rayleigh channels. The performance of each pulse shaping method is evaluated and compared based on parameter ICI power vs. normalized frequency offset, signal to interference ratio (SIR) vs. normalized frequency offset and bit error rate (BER) vs. energy bit per noise (Eb/No). The simulation result in terms of BER vs. Eb/No indicated that REC and ISP pulse shaping has better performance dealing with ICI reduction compared to OFDM system no applied pulse shaping. In addition, the ISP is able to mitigate ICI better than REC.

Abstract

As the education fees are becoming more expensive, more students apply for scholarships. Consequently, hundreds and even thousands of applications need to be handled by the sponsor. To solve the problems, some alternatives based on several attributes (criteria) need to be selected. In order to make a decision on such fuzzy problems, Fuzzy Multiple Attribute Decision Making (FMDAM) can be applied. In this study, Unified Modeling Language (UML) in FMADM with TOPSIS and Weighted Product (WP) methods is applied to select the candidates for academic and non-academic scholarships at Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga. Data used were a crisp and fuzzy data. The results show that TOPSIS and  Weighted Product FMADM methods can be used to select the most suitable candidates to receive the scholarships since the preference values applied in this method can show applicants with the highest eligibility.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze morphological techniques for feature extraction of Jabon’s leaf seedling pathogen using digital microscopic image. The kinds of the pathogen were Curvularia sp., Colletotrichum sp., and Fusarium sp.. Pathogens or causes of disease were identified manually based on macroscopic and microscopic observation of morphological characters. Morphological characters describe the characteristics of shape, color and size of a pathogen structure. We focused on shape feature by using the morphological techniques to feature extraction. The morphology features extraction used were area, perimeter, convex area, convex perimeter, compactness, solidity, convexity, and roundness. The methodologies were acquisition, preprocessing, features extraction and data analysis for derivative features. With features extraction, we got the pattern that described each pathogen for pathogen identification. From the experimental result showed that compactness and roundness feature were able to differentiate each pathogen due to that the characteristics of each pathogen class were separated.
