Abstract

In this article, we have proposed a new control of a PV system connected to the grid. The goal is to reduce current and voltage harmonicsfor increasing the quality of delivered energy. First, we have modeled a PV panel. Then we have dimensioned the BOOST converter by finding L and C values. Next, we have used Perturb and Observe (P&O) Maximum Power Point Control (MPPT) to improve energy efficiency. Finally, We have developed a control of single-phase H-bridge inverter in order to eliminate the 3rd,5th,7th and 9th harmonics order, and added an LCLTo connect the PV inverter to the grid, an LCL betweenthe inverter and the grid. Theperformance of the proposed system was tested by computing spectrum and THD usingMatlab/Simulink software. The proposed architecture provides better Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) which satisfy the EN50160 requirement the THD must be less than 4.66%. We found that THD was decreased from 61.93% to 0.04%.

Abstract

Road markers guide the driver while driving on the road to control the traffic for the safety of the road users. With the booming autonomous car technology, the road markers classification is important in its vision segment to navigate the autonomous car. A new method is proposed in this paper to classify five types of road markers namely dashed, single, double, solid-dashed and dashed-solid which are commonly found on the two lane single carriageway. The classification is using unique feature acquired from the binary image by scanning on each of the images to calculate the frequency of binary transition. Another feature which is the slopes between the two centroids which allow the proposed method, to perform the classification within the same video frame period. This proposed method has been observed to achieve an accuracy value of at least 93%, which is higher than the accuracy value achieved by the existing methods.

Abstract

Next generation broadband access networks are gaining more interests from many key players in this field. The demands for longer reach and higher bandwidth are among the driving factors for such network as it can reach wider area up to 100 km, even beyond; has enhanced bandwidth capacity and transmission speed, but with low cost and energy consumption. One promising candidate is long reach passive optical network, a simplified network with reduced number of network elements, equipment interfaces, and even nodes; which leads to a significant reduction in the network’s capital expenditure and operational expenditure. Outcome of an extended reach often results in increased propagation delay of dynamic bandwidth allocation messages exchange between the optical line terminals and optical network units, leading to the degradations of bandwidth allocation and quality of service support. Therefore, an effective bandwidth allocation algorithm with appropriate service interval setup for a long reach network is proposed to ensure the delay is maintained under ITU-T G.987.1 standard requirement. An existing algorithm is improved in terms of service interval so that it can perform well beyond 100 km. Findings show that the improved algorithm can reduce the mean delay of high priority traffic classes for distance up to 140 km.

Abstract

DC boost converter is an essensial equipment in the system of DC microgrid  which has a function as step up voltage. In making a boost converter equipment of power generation, it often encounters a problem within especially in designing of switching transformer, so that it is need  a long development  time and   high  development cost. In order to solve this problem, in this research it has been made a inverter  development  as boost converter which has been done by simulation and experiment. The simulation results show that for an input voltage 10-14 Vdc yields voltage 254 Vdc, while by testing for an input voltage 10-14 Vdc yields voltage 253 Vdc. Either simulation or test result  show that voltage can be applied in the system of dc micro grid for the need of load based switch mode power supply /SMPS.

Abstract

The most complete definition for the voltage unbalance is using complex voltage unbalance factor (CVUF) that consists of its magnitude and angle. Unfortunately, the definition did not distinguish between undervoltage and overvoltage unbalance conditions. In this paper, the analysis of the motor is performed using the method of symmetrical component and MATLAB software is used to investigate the performance of induction motor. The simulation results show that the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) definition of the voltage unbalance can be applied to evaluate total copper losses precisely. However, the phase angle of unbalance factor must be included for accurate predicting of peak currents and peak copper losses of the phase windings of the motor. The unbalanced conditions which distinguish between under and over voltage unbalance must also be taken into consideration for assessing all the quatities.

Abstract

Automatic multi-document summaries had been developed by researchers. The method used to select sentences from the source document would determine the quality of the summary result. One of the most popular methods used in weighting sentences was by calculating the frequency of occurrence of words forming the sentences. However, choosing sentences with that method could lead to a chosen sentence which didn't represent the content of the source document optimally. This was because the weighting of sentences was only measured by using the number of occurrences of words. This study proposed a new strategy of weighting sentences based on sentences distribution to choose the most important sentences which paid much attention to the elements of sentences that were formed as a distribution of words. This method of sentence distribution enables the extraction of an important sentence in multi-document summarization which served as a strategy to improve the quality of sentence summaries. In that respect were three concepts used in this study: (1) clustering sentences with similarity based histogram clustering, (2) ordering cluster by cluster importance and (3) selection of important sentence by sentence distribution. Results of experiments showed that the proposed method had a better performance when compared with SIDeKiCK and LIGI methods. Results of ROUGE-1 showed the proposed method increasing 3% compared with the SIDeKiCK method and increasing 5.1% compared with LIGI method. Results of ROUGE-2 proposed method increase 13.7% compared with the SIDeKiCK and increase 14.4% compared with LIGI method.

Abstract

A full-function Micro-grid must have an advanced energy storage device. Intelligent control with multi-information fusion was proposed in this paper. Control targets were acquired by mixed application of various strategies, such as Micro-grid peak load shifting be used to reduce State Utility Grid (SUG) supply pressure, SUG connection be controlled flexibly to maintain Micro-grid load working reliably, Micro-grid power production and load supply demands of SUG and Micro-grid be predicted to plan battery energy storage in advance, actual monitoring date be used to control overcharge and over-discharge, State of Charge (SOC) be managed to realize battery efficient storage  and full life cycle as far as possible. All designs were integrated with forecasting and monitoring data from different locations, such as Micro-grid supply side and demand side, the SOC of storage system, the active and reactive power from SUG side, so as to control the battery charge and discharge behavior and SUG connection operation dynamically. Micro-grid could not only operate stand-alone by self-supply in most cases, in the case of power production surplus or equipment malfunction, the Micro-grid could also delivery energy to SUG or take power from the SUG flexibly. The scheme used fully of new energy, could ensure region power supply reliably and be used widely in application.
