Abstract

Diabetic Retinopathy is one of the retina complications caused by diabetic disease with observable symptoms such as emergence of exudate and new blood vessels. The tool used to screen it is a fundus camera. However, analyzing the fundus image should be done by doctor who is an expert and will require a lot of time. Therefore, automatic feature detection can assist doctor in processing the retinal image in analyzing diabetic retinopathy disease. The proposed method has been tested on the morphological operations of the fundus image from Cicendo Eye Hospital, Bandung. The calculation results on feature extraction exudate area has a range of 0 pixels for normal retinal image, 17-21213 pixel for retinal image NPDR, and 125-12299 retinal image pixel for PDR. The calculation results on the extraction area of blood vessels has a range of 13319-46681 pixel to the normal retina, the retinal image 7435-49938 pixel for NPDR, and 13.81-53.802 retinal image pixel for PDR.

Abstract

An antenna array is a set of a combination of two or more antennas in order to achieve improved performance over a single antenna. This paper investigates the beam steering technique using the active element pattern of dipole antenna array. The radiation pattern of the array can be obtain by using the active element pattern method multiplies with the array factor. The active element pattern is crucial as the mutual coupling effect is considered, and it will lead to an accurate radiation pattern, especially in determining direction of arrival (DoA) of a signal. A conventional method such as the pattern multiplication method ignores the coupling effect which is essential especially for closely spaced antenna arrays. The comparison between both techniques has been performed for better performance. It is observed that the active element pattern influenced the radiation pattern of antenna arrays, especially at the side lobe level. Then, the beam of the 3x3 dipole antenna array has been steered to an angle of 60° using three techniques; Uniform, Chebyshev and Binomial distribution. All of these are accomplished using CST and Matlab software.

Abstract

In order to increase the efficiency, to ensure availability and to prevent unexpected failures of the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG), widely used in speed variable wind turbine (SVWT), a model based approach is proposed for diagnosing stator and rotor winding and current sensors faults in the generator. In this study, the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is used as state and parameter estimation method for this model based diagnosis approach. The generator windings faults and current instruments defects are modelled, detected and isolated with the use of the faults indicators called residuals, which are obtained based on the EKF observer. The mathematical model of DFIG for both healthy and faulty operating conditions is implemented in Matlab/Simulink software. The obtained simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique for diagnosis and quantification of the faults under study.

Abstract

This paper presents a novel design for a triple band electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures that provides three band gaps, with operating frequency of below 10 GHz, while the ordinary mushroom like EBG structure gives only one band gap. Complexity reduction (reduce the number of unit cells and Vias) was achieved by replacing each four cells of the Mushroom like EBG by the one of double slotted type EBG (DSTEBG) or triple side slotted EBG (TSSEBG). The Mushroom like EBG was further modified by increasing its size and inserting the slots to gain more capacitance and inductance which resulted into triple band stop. The new designs wer compared with bandwidths expressed by other EBGs and -20 dB cut-off frequencies. The size of EBG element and the gap between EBG elements, and slot width were investigated to analyse their effect on the transmission response. The structures were designed from 2.54 mm Rogers RT/Duroid 6010 substrate with relative permittivity of 10.2 and loss tangent of 0.0023. Among the investigated EBGs, the single band mushroom like EBG and the triple band of the TSSEBG demonstrated better bandwidth and lower resonance frequency performance, whereas the DSTEBG showed larger bandwidth for the first and third band. The proposed EBGs could be useful in the antenna design and other microwave circuits.

Abstract

In this research, water bath sonicator was fabricated to extract bioactive compound of plants material using sound energy (ultrasonic waves) and heater. The bioactive compound, flavonoid, has high sensitivity to temperature and extraction time and previous research stated best treatment with combination of 45˚C and 20 minutes. Therefore, fabricated water bath sonicator was equipped with proportional integral derivative (PID) based temperature controller and timer. Based on a calculation using the Ziegler-Nichols tuning method, Kp, Ki, Kd parameters are 16.59, 0.0279, and 2463.6, respectively. The experimental result shows that the PID controller can perform as design specification with overshoot 1.39%, error steady-state 0.688% and settling time 37.2 minutes. Furthermore, it was proven that the PID controller has contribution to extract more flavonoid.

Abstract

Normally, the collected EEG signals from the human scalp cortex by using the non-invasive EEG collection methods were contaminated with artifacts, like an eye electrical activity, leading to increases in the challenges in analyzing the electroencephalogram for obtaining useful clinical information. In this paper, we do a comparison of using two decomposing methods (DWT and EMD) with CCA technique or High Pass Filter, for the elimination of eye artifacts from EEG. The eye artifacts (EOG) signals were extracted from the un-cleaned or raw EEG signals by DWT and EMD with CCA approach or H.P.F. The root means square error ratio of the uncontaminated EEG signal to the contaminated EEG signal with eye artifacts were the performance indicators for both elimination methods, which indicate that the combined CCA method outperforms the combined H.P.F method in the elimination of eye blinking contamination artifact from the EEG signal.

Abstract

Based on the three earlier MAC (Message Authentication Code) construction approaches, we propose and analyze some variants of NMAC. We propose  some key recovery attacks to  these  NMAC  variants, for  example, we can  recover  the  equivalent  inner  key  of NMAC  in  about O(2n/2) MAC  operations, in  a related key  setting. We  propose  NMAC-E, a  variant of NMAC  with  secret  envelop,  to  achieve  more  process  efficiency  and  no  loss  of security, which needs only one call to the  underlying hash  function, instead of two invocations in HMAC.

Abstract

The standard optimized link state routing (OLSR) introduces an interesting concept, the multipoint relays (MPRs), to mitigate message overhead during the flooding process. This paper propose a new algorithm for MPRs selection to enhance the performance of OLSR using particle swarm optimization sigmoid increasing inertia weight (PSOSIIW). The sigmoid increasing inertia weight has significance improve the particle swarm optimization (PSO) in terms of simplicity and quick convergence towards optimum solution. The new fitness function of PSOSIIW, packet delay of each node and degree of willingness are introduced to support MPRs selection in OLSR. The throughput, packet loss and end-to-end delay of the proposed method are examined using network simulator 2 (ns2).  Overall results indicate that OLSR-PSOSIIW has shown good performance compared to the standard OLSR and OLSR-PSO, particularly for the throughput and end-to-end delay. Generally the proposed OLSR-PSOSIIW shows advantage of using PSO for optimizing routing paths in the MPRs selection algorithm.

Abstract

This paper uses an analysis of Speeded up Robust Feature (SURF), based on the method of Linear Interpolation for camera distortion calibration, for high-density crowd counting. The eigenvalues are built on the Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) features and the SURF features. Though the method of linear interpolation, weight values are interpolated to reduce the error, which is caused by camera distortion calibration. The optimized crowd’s feature vector can be got then. Through the method of support vector regression, the crowd’s number can be forecast by training model. The experiment result shows that the method of this paper has a higher accuracy than the previous methods.
