Electromagnetic radiations present in the environment has a profound effect on the growth of vegetable plant primarily grown under the high power transmission lines. The high electric field generated due to ultra high voltage causes the increase and reduction in the size of the plants. Numerous research have been carried out to investigate the effect of electric field on the plants. However, the knowledge in term of quantitative analysis on the effect of electric field on the growth of vegetables is not entirely understood. Thus, this paper presents a study conducted to investigate the effect of high voltage DC electric fields on the young vegetables growth namely ‘Choy Sam’ and bean sprout. The experimental setup was designed which composed of two parallel plate electrodes. This research was focused on the percentage of germination and growing rate of young vegetables. The growth of the young vegetables during exposure was calculated by using statistical methods. The analysis of the results showed that the electric fields and the electric fields treated water have influenced the germination rate and height of stems of both young vegetables causing the increase in stem height.

Fade dynamics is one of more important parameters when implementing Fade Mitigation Techniques (FMTs) to counteract an excessive attenuation that affect satellite communication systems operating above 10 GHz. The statistics of probable duration between two rain fade namely interfade duration enables system operator to estimate how long the system will need to recover before the next outage and assist in designing the FMTs. In this paper, interfade duration statistics have been derived from one year of slant path attenuation measurements data collected in Equatorial Johor Bahru at 12.2 GHz with elevation angle of 75.61o. The result had shown the dependency of number of events with attenuation thresholds. Empirical interfade duration statistics are also obtained and suitable model distribution are proposed.

One of the problems encounters in implementing vegetable oils (natural esters) as a transformer insulating oil is their viscosity which is high. To address this problem, monoester derived from vegetable oil was introduced. This paper deals with partial discharge (PD) behaviors of dry and moist samples of a monoester type insulating oil, palm fatty acid ester (PFAE), under AC high voltage utilizing a needle plane electrode configuration. Variations of average PD charge and PD number against the variation of voltage application, as well as their polarity discrimination under both dry and moist sample conditions are analyzed. PD pulses phase distributions of both dry and moist sample oils are elaborated. Finally, a mechanism of the water molecules effect on PD behavior is proposed based on experimental results and shown schematically.

In this article, we try to design the architecture of a smart notification system using an Android gadget for academic notification in college. Academic notification in colleges now utilizes bulletin boards and online media such as websites or social media. The problem faced is the high cost and resources required to deliver the academic notification. Another problem is whether the information delivered can be right to the students who need it. We proposed the architecture of a smart notification system that can reduce the cost, and the information delivered can be right on target to the students in need.

Feeder performance evaluation is a key component in improving the power system network. Currently there is no proper method to find the performance of Medium Voltage Feeders (MVF) except the number of feeder failures. Performance benchmarking may be used to identify actual performance of feeders. The results of such benchmarking studies allow the organization to compare feeders with themselves and identify poorly performing feeders. This paper focuses on prominent benchmarking techniques used in international regulatory regime and analyses the applicability to MVFs. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method is selected to analyze the MVFs. Correlation analysis and DEA analysis are carried out on different models and then the base model is selected for the analysis. The relative performance of the 32 MVFs of Western Province, Sri Lanka is evaluated using the DEA. Relative efficiency scores are identified for each feeder. Also the feeders are classified according to the sensitivity analysis. The results indicate that the DEA analysis may be conveniently employed to evaluate the performance of the MVFs. The evaluation is carried out once or twice a year with the MV distribution development plan in order to identify the performance of the feeders and to utilize the available limited resources efficiently.

Promotional media used in the marketing of housing using catalogs that display 2D images of houses from one side of the house make potential customers unable to imagine the design of all parts of the house. Augmented Reality can be used as an interactive marketing media so that it can be used to display homes in 3D so that they appear more real from all sides so that prospective customers can consider the type of house to be chosen. Development of this application using the Multimedia Development Life Cycle. Application development uses the FAST algorithm as detection of home catalog markers to define how well images can be detected and tracked. The FAST algorithm will calculate every pixel on the target image in determining the corner when scanning the home catalog then it will produce a 3D object home to see the real shape design of the house.

The study presents a road pavement crack detection system by extracting picture features then classifying them based on image features. The applied feature extraction method is the gray level co-occurrence matrices (GLCM). This method employs two order measurements. The first order utilizes statistical calculations based on the pixel value of the original image alone, such as variance, and does not pay attention to the neighboring pixel relationship. In the second order, the relationship between the two pixel-pairs of the original image is taken into account. Inspired by the recent success in implementing Supervised Learning in computer vision, the applied method for classification is artificial neural network (ANN). Datasets, which are used for evaluation are collected from low-cost smart phones. The results show that feature extraction using GLCM can provide good accuracy that is equal to 90%.

The human ear biometric recognition plays an important role in the forensics specialty and has significant impact for biometrician scientists and researchers. Actually, many ear recognition researches showed promised results, but some issues such as manual detection process, efficiency and robustness aren’t attained a certain level of maturity. Therefore, the enhancement developing approaches still continuous to achieve limited successes. We propose an efficient, reliable and simple automatic human ear detection approach. This approach implement two stages: preprocessing and ear landmarks detection. We utilized the image contrast, Laplace filter and Gaussian blurring techniques to made enhancement on all images (increasing the contrast, reduce the noisy and smoothing processes). After that, we highlighted the ear edges by using the Sobel edge detector and determining the only white pixels of ear edges by applying the image substation method. The improvement focused on using the modified adaptive search window (ASW) to detect the ear region. Furthermore, our approach is tested on Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi standard ear biometric public dataset. Experimental results presented a well average detection rate 96% for 493 image samples from 125 persons and computational time almost ≈ 0.485 seconds which is evaluated with other previous works.

A robust method for panorama view reconstruction of a scene is presented. The images of a scene are acquired by moving a camera to multiple viewpoints. We present a robust method of panorama synthesizing based on image mosaicing approach. The edge detection and feature points extraction are performed for each image. The corresponding feature points between two successive images are estimated and the between these images is computed. These two images are integrated based on the different of minimum threshold values between them. After that, the full-view of a scene is reconstructed by merging the successive integrated images by developed image mosaicing approach. This research describes how to establish feature correspondences between images accurately and effectively. Image registration technique provides an initial estimation for establishing feature correspondences of point features. The linear solution with the reliable correspondences makes the computation of the geometric transformation between two images.
