Abstract

This paper proposes a compact microstrip bandpass filter (BPF) with tunable transmission zeros, narrow bandwidth and low insertion loss. A λ/4 stepped impedance resonator (SIR) with two additional via holes has been adopted to obtain a compact size and a pair of transmission zero (TZ). Furthermore, three techniques have been developed to create a pair of controllable transmission zeros on both side of each passband.  The TZ can be controlled by adjusting either magnetic or electric coupling. The measured return losses and insertion loss is larger than 18 dB and 2.2 dB respectively. The overall size of the proposed design filter is 5.3mm x 5.5mm without considering the feeding lines.

Abstract

Most gases are odorless, colorless and also hazard to be sensed by the human olfactory system. Hence, an electronic nose system is required for the gas classification process. This study presents the design of electronic nose system using a combination of Gas Chromatography Column and a Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW). The Gas Chromatography Column is a technique based on the compound partition at a certain temperature. Whereas, the SAW sensor works based on the resonant frequency change. In this study, gas samples including methanol, acetonitrile, and benzene are used for system performance measurement. Each gas sample generates a specific acoustic signal data in the form of a frequency change recorded by the SAW sensor. Then, the acoustic signal data is analyzed to obtain the acoustic features, i.e. the peak amplitude, the negative slope, the positive slope, and the length. The Support Vector Machine (SVM) method using the acoustic feature as its input parameters are applied to classify the gas sample. Radial Basis Function is used to build the optimal hyperplane model which devided into two processes i.e., the training process and the external validation process. According to the result performance, the training process has the accuracy of 98.7% and the external validation process has the accuracy of 93.3%. Our electronic nose system has the average sensitivity of 51.43 Hz/mL to sense the gas samples.

Abstract

Design and measurement of two waveguide diplexers on H-plane T-junction, are presented. The two diplexers structures consist of a waveguide H-plane T-junction and two waveguide obtained cavity filters. The two diplexers operate in the same frequency bands (17 GHz-19.5 GHz). The simulation results show that over the operating band of two filters, the return losses are better than 18 dB and insertion losses are lower than 0.05 dB. The proposed diplexers have been simulated using Mician μ Wave Wizard simulator based on the mode matching method (MMM). The diplexers have been validated experimentally and results are presented. Simulated and measured results show good agreement.

Abstract

The performance and advantages of microstrip patch antennas made them a field of interest for wireless power transmission applications, especially for rectenna systems where the choice of the antenna is a crucial step.  In this paper, a 5.8 GHz circularly polarized patch antenna has been designed and fabricated, then mounted by using 4 elements to achieve an antenna array to enhance the captured power to be converted by the rectifier circuit. The antenna array is well matched at 5.8 GHz in terms of reflection coefficient and has a directivity of 11dB and a gain of 6 dB. Results have been confirmed by fabrication.

Abstract

Transfer learning (TL) is a technique of reuse and modify a pre-trained network. It reuses feature extraction layer at a pre-trained network. A target domain in TL obtains the features knowledge from the source domain. TL modified classification layer at a pre-trained network. The target domain can do new tasks according to a purpose. In this article, the target domain is fundus image classification includes normal and neovascularization. Data consist of 100 patches. The comparison of training and validation data was 70:30. The selection of training and validation data is done randomly. Steps of TL i.e load pre-trained networks, replace final layers, train the network, and assess network accuracy. First, the pre-trained network is a layer configuration of the convolutional neural network architecture. Pre-trained network used are AlexNet, VGG16, VGG19, ResNet50, ResNet101, GoogLeNet, Inception-V3, InceptionResNetV2, and squeezenet. Second, replace the final layer is to replace the last three layers. They are fully connected layer, softmax, and output layer. The layer is replaced with a fully connected layer that classifies according to number of classes. Furthermore, it's followed by a softmax and output layer that matches with the target domain. Third, we trained the network. Networks were trained to produce optimal accuracy. In this section, we use gradient descent algorithm optimization. Fourth, assess network accuracy. The experiment results show a testing accuracy between 80% and 100%.

Abstract

The complexity of multimedia contents is significantly increasing in the current world. This leads to an exigent demand for developing highly effective systems tosatisfy human needs. Until today, handwritten signature considered an important means that is used in banks and businesses to evidence identity, so there are many works triedto develop a method for recognition purpose. This paper introduced an efficient technique for offline signature recognition depending on extracting the local feature by utilizing the haar wavelet subbands and energy. Three different setsof features are utilized by partitioning the signature image into non overlapping blocks where different block sizes are used. CEDAR signature database is used asa dataset for testing purpose. The results achieved by this technique indicate a high performance in signature recognition.

Abstract

 We have proposed and developed a low temperature thermoelectric generator (TEG) using engine water coolant of light-duty vehicles. Experimental results from test vehicle, of which engine size is about 2.0 liters, show that fabricated prototype Thermoelectric Generator generates more than 75W for driving condition of 80 km/hour, and output power is about 28W during idle condition. The proposed TEG can replace conventional radiator without additional water pumps or mechanical devices except for basic components of legacy water cooling system of radiator.

Abstract

Grapheme-to-phoneme conversion (G2P), also known as letter-to-sound conversion, is an important module in both speech synthesis and speech recognition. The methods of G2P give varying accuracies for different languages although they are designed to be language independent. This paper discusses a new model based on pseudo nearest neighbor rule (PNNR) for Indonesian G2P. In this model, partial orthogonal binary code for graphemes, contextual weighting, and neighborhood weighting are introduced. Testing to 9,604 unseen words shows that the model parameters are easy to be tuned to reach high accuracy. Testing to 123 sentences containing homographs shows that the model could disambiguate homographs if it uses long graphemic context. Compare to information gain tree, PNNR gives slightly higher phoneme error rate, but it could disambiguate homographs.

Abstract

Image registration, as one of the basic tasks of image processing, is the process to register two images about the same objective or background which are acquired in different times, different sensors, different perspectives and different shooting conditions. In the image registration, because of the problems that the image information is complicated, they have strong correlation and incompleteness, inaccuracy and non-construction occur in different levels in the processing, to apply the method of computational intelligence information processing in the image registration can have better results than the traditional computation methods. This paper proposes an image registration method based on wavelet decomposition and ant colony optimization, which divides the process of image registration into coarse registration and refined registration through wavelet decomposition technique. In the coarse registration, the transformation parameter value of the image approximation component is acquired through ant colony optimization while the changing parameter value of the original image is obtained by the ant colony search method in the refined registration. The simulation experiment shows that this registration method has the characteristics of anti-noise, fast speed, high accuracy and high registration success rate.

Abstract

This paper describes the technique to accelerate inpainting process using fourth order PDE equation using GPU CUDA. Inpainting is the process of filling in missing parts of damaged images based on information gleaned from surrounding areas. It uses the GPU computation advantage to process PDE equation into parallel process. Fourth order PDE will be solved using parallel computation in GPU. This method can speed up the computation time up to 36x using NVDIA GEFORCE GTX 670.
