Abstract

The capacitive slit is a method of making the impedance value to be resistive. To achieve this goal is a challenge in addition to the slit antenna and gives impact to gain as one of the important parameters in antenna design. The antenna gain in a particular direction is defined as 4π times the ratio of radiation intensity in that direction to the power received by the transmitter antenna. In this research, the proposed capacitive slit method was tested on the hexacula omnidirectional broadband antenna operating on frequency 0.85-3 GHz and gain 4.8 dBi. The testing was conducted to obtain the gain improvement of the hexacula omnidirectional broadband antenna. The placement of the capacitive slit was implemented on double strip antenna with 4 times experiments. The best experiment result was obtained when three capacitive slits were placed on different strips. The capacitive slit was designed by analyzing the average value of input impedance before calculating the dimension of the capacitive slit that applied to the antenna. The experiment result shows that the best value of antenna gain is 7.19 dBi. The gain increment is linear to the number of capacitive slits applied to the antenna.

Abstract

A low dropout (LDO) voltage regulator with high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) and low temperature coefficient (TC) is presented in this paper. Large 1µF off-chip load capacitor is used to achieve the high PSRR. However, this decreases the gain and pushes the LDO’s output pole to lower frequency causing the circuit to become unstable. The proposed LDO uses rail-to-rail folded cascode amplifier to compensate the gain and stability problems. 2nd order curvature characteristic is used in bandgap voltage reference circuit that is applied at the input of the amplifier to minimize the TC. The characteristic is achieved by implementing MOSFET transistors operate in weak and strong inversions. The LDO is designed using 0.18µm CMOS technology and achieves a constant 1.8V output voltage for input voltages from 3.2V to 5V and load current up to a 128mA at temperature between -40°C to 125°C. The proposed LDO is targeted for RF application which has stringent requirement on noise rejection over a broad range of frequency.

Abstract

Cloud Computing is a rapidly emerging technology over the last few years, that has abolished the burden of purchasing heavy hardware and software. Cloud computing has been advantageous to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), though many SMEs have not adopted to delve into its appealing benefits. To increase the cloud adoption rate in these Enterprises, the most important thing is to understand the aspects which influence the cloud adoption. The article focuses on these factors, which influence the use of cloud services by establishing the three layer hierarchical framework based on the grounded on the Technology Oriented Environmental (TOE) framework through systematic literature review. Because cloud-based solutions offer numerous benefits for companies, they have precious cloud determinants. This paper therefore took into account the Technology Organization Environment TOE model for Cloud Computing adoption. In addition, the questionaries designed at the end also indicate the significant connection in the decision of adoption between three context of TOE. Moreover, the designed questionaries has been used for the analysis of cloud computing adoption in Bangladeshi SMEs.

Abstract

Color uniformity is one of the essentials for the on-going development of WLED. To achieve a high color uniformity index, increasing the scattering events within the phosphor layers was reported to be the most efficient method and in this article, ZnO is the chosen material to apply in this method. After analyzing the scattering properties through the scattering cross-section , scattering coefficient  and scattering phase function , the which outcomes comfirm that ZnO can enhance the scattered light in the phosphor layers. Moreover, the findings from the study of ZnO concentration from 2% to 26% suggest that color uniformity also depends on the fluctuation of ZnO concentration, therefore, to control color uniformity the focus should be implied on both size and concentration of ZnO. The experimental results from this research show that the luminous flux of WLED is at the peak if the concentration of ZnO is at 6%, and when the concentration of ZnO is at 18% and has 100 nm particles size, the ΔCCT reaches the lowest level. The final choice should be based on the desired characteristic of WLEDs, however, if the WLED need to excel in both luminous flux and ΔCCT then 6% ZnO concentration with particles size from 100 nm-300 nm is the optimal choice.

Abstract

In order to design good pseudorandom number generator, using a bidirectional generalized synchronization theorem for discrete chaos system, this paper introduces a new 5-dimensional bidirectional generalized chaos synchronization system (BGCSDS), whose prototype is a novel chaotic system. Numerical simulation showed that two pair variables of the BGCSDS achieve generalized chaos synchronization via a transform H. A chaos-based pseudorandom number generator (CPNG) was designed by the new BGCSDS. Using the FIPS-140-2 tests issued by the National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) verified the randomness of the 1000 binary number sequences generated via the CPNG and the RC4 algorithm respectively. The results showed all the tested sequences passed the FIPS-140-2 tests. The confidence interval analysis showed the statistical properties of the randomness of the sequences generated via the CPNG and the RC4 algorithm do not have significant differences. So, the CPNG is suitable to be used in the information security filed.

Abstract

Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) is emerging actuator for micro and nano application which is interesting to be developed. This paper presents the evaluation of close-loop controller responses of the TiNi SMA spring based gripper by introducing lag, lead and lag-lead compensator. A SMA spring has a diameter of 50 mm wire and 350 gram hanging mass. The driver of the SMA actuator uses pulse width modulation (PWM) signal and it is tested by varying frequencies and duty-cycles. The applied frequencies in this study are 12, 25, 125, 250 and 1150 Hz. Lab-View and DAQ-Card is used as a controller, interfacer and data recorder of the system. The fabricated gripper consists of two fingers and the total angular displacement of the gripper is 300. In advanced application, the experiment coversSMA open loop and close-loop system. The SMA response indicated that the rise-time and the steady-state error of the cloop-loop are shorter and lower than open-loop controller.

Abstract

Adaptivity in the field of e-learning and an innovative framework for personalised adaptive e-learning is often considered to be new or in an early development stage. In this paper, we propose an architecture for development of adaptive e-learning system. This architecture is based on the IEEE 1484 LTSA (Learning Technology System Architecture) reference model. The learner model is based on the learners’ preference and knowledge level. According to these profiles, the learners are served with learning material that best matches their educational needs. Furthermore, we also accomodate the learner feeback regarding to difficulty level of learning material. The design of our proposed models is prepared using UML notation. Our goal is to assist the instructional designers in developing adaptive e-learning system based on the IEEE LTSA models efficiently.

Abstract

Sorting is a kind of widely used basic algorithms. As the high performance computing devices are increasingly common, more and more modern commodity machines have the capability of parallel concurrent computing. A new implementation of sorting algorithms is proposed to harness the power of newer SIMD operations and multi-core computing provided by modern CPUs. The algorithm is hybrid by optimized bitonic sorting network and multi-way merge. New SIMD instructions provided by modern CPUs are used in the bitonic network implementation, which adopted a different method to arrange data so that the number of SIMD operations is reduced. Balanced binary trees are used in multi-way merge, which is also different with former implementations. Efforts are also paid on minimizing data moving in memory since merge sort is a kind of memory-bound application. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed algorithm is twice as fast as the sort function in C++ standard library when only single thread is used. It also outperforms radix sort implemented in Boost library.

Abstract

In call center [1] product recommendation field, call center as an organization between users and telecom operator, doesn’t have permission to access users specific information and the detailed products information. Accordingly, rule-based selection method is common used to predict user purchase behavior by the call center. Unfortunately, rule-based approach not only ignores the user’s previous behavior information entirely, and it is difficult to make use of the existing interaction records between users and products. Consequently, it will not get desired results if we just use the basic selection method to predict user purchase behavior directly, because the problem is that the features straightly extracted from the interaction data records are limited. In order to solve the problem above, this paper proposes a two-stage algorithm that based on K-Means Clustering Algorithm [2] and SVM [3, 4] Classification Algorithm. Firstly, we get the potential category information of products by K-Means Clustering Algorithm, then use SVM Classification Model to predict users purchasing behavior. This two-stage prediction model not only solves the feature shortage problem, but also gives full consideration to the potential features between users and product categories, which can help us to gain significant performance in call center product recommendation field.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to select and identify user influence on Twitter data. In identification stage, the method proposed in this study was matrix Twitter approach, sentiment analysis, and characterization of the opinion leader. The importan characteristics included external communication, accessibility, and innovation. Based on these characteristics and information from Twitter data through matrix Twitter and sentiment analysis, a algorithm of skyline query was constructed for the selection stage. Algorithm of skyline query selected user influence by comparing with other users according to values of each characteristic. Thus, user influence was indicated as user that was not influenced by other users in any combination of skyline objects. The use of MapReduce framework model in identification and selection stage, support whole operation where Twitter had big size data and rapid changes. The results in identification and selection of user influence exhibited that MapReduce framework minimized the execution time, whereas in parallel skyline query could reveal user influence on the data.
