Abstract

In recent years, facial recognition has been a major problem in the field of computer vision, which has attracted lots of interest in previous years because of its use in different applications by different domains and image analysis. Which is based on the extraction of facial descriptors, it is a very important step in facial recognition. In this article, we compared robust methods (SIFT, PCA-SIFT, ASIFT and SURF) to extract relevant facial information with different facial posture variations (open and unopened mouth, glasses and no glasses, open and closed eyes). The simulation results show that the detector (SURF) is better than others at finding the similarity descriptor and calculation time. Our method is based on the normalization of vector descriptors and combined with the RANSAC algorithm to cancel outliers in order to calculate the Hessian matrix with the objective of reducing the calculation time. To validate our experience, we tested four facial images databases containing several modifications. The results of the simulation show that our method is more efficient than other detectors in terms of speed of recognition and determination of similar points between two images of the same face, one belonging to the base of the text and the other one to the base driven by different modifications. This method, which can be applied on a mobile platform to analyze the content of simple images, for example, to detect driver fatigue, human-machine interaction, human-robot. Using descriptors with properties important for good accuracy and real-time response.

Abstract

In this paper, a novel split-radix algorithm for fast calculation the discrete Hartley transform of type-II (DHT-II) is intoduced. The algorithm is established through the decimation in time (DIT) approach, and implementedby splitting a length N of DHT-II into one DHT-II of length N/2 for even-indexed samples and two DHTs-II of length N/4 for odd-indexed samples. The proposed algorithm possesses the desired properties such as regularity, inplace calculation and it is represented by simple closed form decomposition sleading to considerable reductions in the arithmetic complexity compared to the existing DHT-II algorithms. Additionally, the validity of the proposed algorithm has been confirmed through analysing the arithmetic complexityby calculating the number of real additions and multiplications and associating it with the existing DHT-II algorithms.

Abstract

This paper presents an application of a new circuit configuration of H-bridge based five-level current-source inverter (CSI) used for grid connected photovoltaics system. In this topology, the intermediate level currents of the five-level current waveform are generated by connecting DC current module to the H-bridge CSI. Some new features can be derived using this new topology such as reducing the switching power device count, and reducing the inductor conduction losses of the inverter. The proposed five-level CSI is tested for grid connected photovoltaic system through computer simulation using PSIM software. Furthermore, the experimental test results of the proposed five-level CSI are presented. The results show that the inverter works properly generating a five-level current waveform and injecting a sinusoidal current into power grid with less harmonics distortion and with unity power factor operation.

Abstract

The lack of damping of the electromechanical oscillation modes usually causes severe problems of low frequency oscillations in interconnected power systems. In the extreme operating conditions, PSS may fail to damp power oscillation. This paper presents a robust coordinated design of power system stabilizer (PSS) and thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) to damp power oscillation in an interconnected power system. The inverse additive perturbation is applied to represent unstructured uncertainties in the power system such as variations of system parameters, system generating and loading conditions. In addition, genetic algorithm is employed to search a robust tuning to the controller parameters of both PSS and TCSC simultaneously. Simulation studies have been done in a single machine infinite bus system to confirm that the performance and robustness of the proposed controller are superior to that of the conventional controller.

Abstract

To address the unreliable charging of new charging interfaces caused by comprehending deviation on China’s alternating current (AC) charging interface standard for electric vehicles, implementation methods of AC charging interface circuit, control pilot (CP) circuit, and status acquisition circuit for electric vehicles were proposed in this study. Basic principle and functions of the CP circuit were discussed, and influences of resistance parameters on voltage state at test point were analyzed. Freescale MC9S12XEQ512 was used as the main controller, and its integrated pulse-width modulation module and analog-to-digital converter module were used to simplify circuit designs. An experimental test on charging interface connection confirmation, CP, output power parameter passing, and real-time charging connection status acquisition was conducted on real vehicles. Results demonstrated that the designed circuits exhibit high security and meet the basic requirements of GB/T20234-2 with regard to AC charging interface characteristics. All test data are within the allowed error range. Furthermore, real-time monitoring of the charging process and security isolation design of signals can effectively improve the system stability. Hence, this technology can be used in AC charge control of electric vehicles.

Abstract

This paper is under in-depth investigation due to suspicion of possible plagiarism on a high similarity index Received signal strength (RSS)-based fingerprinting location systems have attracted much attention in recent years. No additional hardware is required for it implementation to existing networks. However, by analyzing the realistic measurements from GSM, we find that not only the RSS but also the neighboring base stations heard at some reference point will change over time. But the relative order of neighboring base stations (NBS) sorted according to their RSS are more stable. In this paper, we present a confidence coefficient of base station based on a gridding approach to get a relative accurate NBS during the offline phase, and proposed a novel algorithm with Longest Common Subsequence Matching Degree (LCSMD) of base station vector (BSV), which uses the relative order of NBS sorted according to their RSS. To evaluate our proposed method, we collect the realistic data from GSM network. Results show that the method based on LCSMD improves the positioning accuracy compared to the original method.

Abstract

This paper presents the effects of segmentation techniques in the identification of Ethiopian coffee variety. In Ethiopia, coffee varieties are classified based on their growing region. The most widely coffee growing regions in Ethiopia are Bale, Harar, Jimma, Limu, Sidamo and Welega. Coffee beans of these regions very in color shape and texture. We investigated various segmentation techniques for efficient coffee beans variety identification system. Images of six different coffee beans varieties in Oromia and Southern Ethiopia were acquired and analyzed. For this study Otsu, Fuzzy-C-Means (FCM) and Kmeans segmentation techniques are considered. For classification of the varieties of Ethiopian coffee beans back propagation neural network (BPNN) is used. From the experiment 94.54% accuracy is achieved when BPNN is used on FCM segmentation technique.

Abstract

This paper discusses the design of the architecture of an information fusion processor. This processor emulates the way of human thinking, namely by drawing conclusions from the obtained collection of information. Architecture design for this processor is based on Knowledge Growing System (KGS) algorithm. KGS is a novelty in Artificial Intelligence field. Compared to other AI methods, KGS focuses on the observation of the process of the knowledge growth within human brain based on information received from the surrounding environment. By using KGS algorithm, this processor works by receiving inputs from a set of sensors and possible hypotheses obtained after the processing of the information. The processor generates a value which is called as Degree of Certainty (DoC), which show the most possible hypothesis among all alternative ones. The Processor Elements which are used to perform KGS algorithm is designed based on systolic array architecture. The design of this processor is realized with VHSIC Hardware Design Language (VHDL) and synthesized by using FPGA Quartus II.13.1. The results show that the data path which has been design is able to perform the mechanism of KGS computation.

Abstract

Electricity is one of the most pressing needs for human life. Electricity is required not only for lighting but also to carry out activities of daily life related to activities Social and economic community. The problems is currently a limited supply of electricity resulting in an energy crisis. Electrical power is not storable therefore it is a vital need to make a good electricity demand forecast. According to this, we conducted an analysis based on power load. Given a baseline to this research, we applied penalized splines (P-splines) which led to a powerful and applicable smoothing technique. In this paper, we revealed penalized spline degree 1 (linear) with 8 knots is the best model since it has the lowest GCV (Generelized Cross Validation). This model have become a compelling model to predict electric power load evidenced by of Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE=0.013) less than 10%.
