Abstract

The Firefly Algorithm (FA) has a few disadvantages in solving the constrained global optimization problem, including that it is difficult to produce initial population, the size of relative attractiveness has nothing to do with the absolute brightness of fireflies, the inertia weight does not take full advantage of the information of objective function, and it cannot better control and constrain the mobile distance of firefly. In this paper, we propose a novel method based on discrete firefly algorithm combining genetic algorithm for traveling salesman problem. We redefine the distance of firefly algorithm by introducing swap operator and swap sequence to avoid algorithm easily falling into local solution and accelerate convergence speed. In addition, we adopt dynamic mechanism based on neighborhood search algorithm. Finally, the comparison experiment results show that the novel algorithm can search perfect solution within a short time, and greatly improve the effectiveness of solving the traveling salesman problem, it also significantly improves computing speed and reduces iteration number.

Abstract

The increasing demands on the usage of data centers especially in provisioning cloud applications (i.e. data-intensive applications) have drastically increased the energy consumption and becoming a critical issue. Failing to handle the increasing in energy consumption leads to the negative impact on the environment, and also negatively affecting the cloud providers’ profits due to increasing costs. Various surveys have been carried out to address and classify energy-aware approaches and solutions. As an active research area with increasing number of proposals, more surveys are needed to support researchers in the research area. Thus, in this paper, we intend to provide the current state of existing related surveys that serve as a guideline for the researchers as well as the potential reviewers to embark into a new concern and dimension to compliment existing related surveys. Our review highlights four main topics and concludes to some recommendations for the future survey.

Abstract

Tunnel Broker uses automatic configuration tunneling mechanism for IPv6 clients connected to IPv4 internet. Connectivity between clients and service providers in IPv6 is urgently needed. Open VPN as a provider implemented configures it by a VPN network, so IPv6 and IPv4 public IP clients can easily connect to the server. In this research focused on the performance of tunnel broker mechanism by utilizing open VPN as access to the network. IPv6 tunnel broker is developed by installing Open VPN and providing IPv6 IPs. Implementation of public IP usage in observing the performance of tunnel broker development is done in BCN Telkom Laboratory Network. The measurement results show that TCP and UDP throughput of IPv6 is slightly higher than IPv4. The research using OpenVPN as a server Tunnel Broker for client access to the server is still rarely done, especially in the field of the network based on Internet Protocol.

Abstract

Energy for fulfilling basic community/individual needs has come to constitute the first article of expectation in all contemporary societies. The exploitation of renewables notably solar in electricity generation has brought relief to the fulfilment of energy demand especially among susceptible communities. In this paper yearly minimum solar radiation of Kano (12.05°N; 08.2°E; altitude 472.5 m; 3 air density 1.1705 kg/m3) for 46 years is used to generate a prediction model that fits the data using autoregressive moving average (ARMA) and a new model termed autoregressive moving average process (ARMAP). Comparison between the ARMA and ARMAP models showed a tremendous improve in the sum of square error reduction between the actual data and the forecasted data by 47%.

Abstract

Electricity generation at the hydropower stations in Nigeria has been below the expected value. While the hydro stations have a capacity to generate up to 2,380 MW, the daily average energy generated in 2017 was estimated at around 846 MW. A factor responsible for this is the lack of a proper control system to manage the transfer of resources between the cascaded Kainji-Jebba Hydropower stations operating in tandem. This paper addressed the optimal regulation of the operating head of the Jebba hydropower reservoir in the presence of system constraints, flow requirement and environmental factors that are weather-related. The resulting two-point boundary value problem was solved using the progressive expansion of domain technique as against the shooting or multiple shooting techniques. The results provide the optimal inflow required to keep the operating head of the Jebba reservoir at a nominal level, hence ensuring that the maximum number of turbo-alternator units are operated.

Abstract

In this paper, the effect of the ambient temperature on photovoltaic (PV) modules for different angles of inclinations and different intensities of the solar radiation on the surface of PV module is considered using empirical correlations for natural convection. The analysis used an analytical model based on the energy balance equilibrium between PV module and the environment. It has been shown that in real conditions of exploitation, the value of the solar conversion coefficient of the solar energy to be determined by the manufacturer, valid for the standard test conditions (STC) for PV module (25 °C -1000 W/m2). The results obtained indicates that in the case a smaller number of PV modules corresponding to the required number for average household. The proposed procedure can be applied in the techno-economic analysis for PV system with uniaxial monitoring of the sun position as well as static PV systems.

Abstract

Automation of generating hardware description language code of neural networks models can highly decrease time of implementation those networks into a digital devices, thus significant money savings. To implement the neural network into hardware design, it is required to translate generated model into device structure. VHDL language is used to describe those networks into hardware. VHDL code has been proposed to implement ANNs as well as to present simulation results with floating point arithmetic of the earth station and the satellite power systems using ModelSim® PE 6.6 simulator tool. Integration between MATLAB® and VHDL is used to save execution time of computation. The results shows that a good agreement between MATLAB and VHDL and a fast and flexible feed forward NN which is capable of dealing with floating point arithmetic operations; minimum number of CLB slices; and good speed of performance. FPGA synthesis results are obtained with view RTL schematic and technology schematic from Xilinix tool. Minimum number of utilized resources is obtained by using Xilinix VERTIX5.

Abstract

Because of the flaws of fiber Bragg grating, needs to set up protective layer between the structure and fiber layer to protect the fiber grating. Firstly the strain transferring rules of the FBG sensors is analyzed, carefully analyze the main factors influencing the fiber Bragg grating strain sensor transfer, and analyze concretely effect of each factor, the fiber Bragg grating sensors embedded angle deviation is analyzed and influence on the measured results. Finally, by a series of repeated, coherent, dynamic and fatigue characteristic test, it is proved that the FBG sensor has applied value

Abstract

Research in the field of image classification has been widely applied and developed, especially in the field of satellite imagery. Image classification is the process of grouping the pixels in an image into a number of classes, so that each class can describe an entity with certain characteristics. The research aims to build software that can perform the classification of earth image results from UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) monitoring. The Image converted into YUV format then classified using Fuzzy Support Vector Machine (FSVM). This research designed elements that UAVs will be used for monitoring as follows: (1) the control station, which designed the software on a computer that is used to send or receive data, and display the data in graphical form, (2) payload, using the camera to capture images and send to the control station, (3) communication system using TCP/IP protocol, and (4) UAV, using X650 quadcopter products from xaircraft. All of data can be received if it is sent by several segmented package into smaller parts. The results of image classification, the image of the monitoring carried out on the UAV sized 256 x 256 pixels with a total number of 450 training data size. It is 16x16 pixel image data. Tests performed to classify the image into 3 classes, namely agricultural area, residential area, and water area. The highest accuracy value of 77.69% obtained by the number of training data as much as 375.

Abstract

In this paper, a new method has been proposed for identifying anonymous fake reviews generated by click farmers in E-commerce and improves the identification rates. Anonymous fake reviews are different from the gunuine reviews. They could be distinguished based on the credibility of users, the average daily number of evaluations, the content similarity, and the degree of word overlapping. The proposed method takes into account these 5 features to calculate the fake reviews content by constructing multivariate linear regression model, Experiments show that this prelimilnary work performed well in identifying fake reviews in Chinese E-commerce website. The extracted features are also useful to identifying the fake reviews when the reviewer’s identification is not accessable.
