Abstract

Thematic learning, especially thematic integrative, basically requires the optimization of the use of varied learning media so that it will help students in understanding the concepts of material which are abstract. Therefore, the use of learning media is important in learning. This study aims to reveal: 1) the eligibility of Dakon-themed game media on the topic “Where I Live”, and 2) the effectiveness of Dakon-themed game media in improving the curiosity of grade IV students of elementary school. This development research was conducted in Kulonprogo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia and developed the media according to the 10 steps developed by Borg and Gall. The testing subjects consisted of 9 students in the initial field trial phase, 34 students in the main field trial and 74 students in the operational field trial which were divided into experimental and control groups. The data collection was trough tests, expert rating scale and response questionnaire. The effectiveness of the media of media on the theme of topic Where I live in improving the curiosity of analytical students with N-gain, and t-test with an alpha level of 0.05.The results reveal that: (1) the developed Dakon-theme on the topic Where I Live meets the eligibility criteria based on the results of the validation with very feasible criteria; and (2) the developed game is effective in improving curiosity of the fourth grade students of elementary schools.

Abstract

Learning Model studio known as Studio - Based Learning (SBL) has the main features hands-on or first hand experience or learning by doing. Ideally, most of the SBL activities, either individually or in groups, conducted in a studio which was accompanied by a number of teachers / assistants. Student’s evaluation efficiently when using the method of correlational research conducted with data collection and analysis of questionnaire data with the statistics. Questions in the questionnaire were arranged by following structure: the ability of professors, lecturer’s attitudes, organization of the studio system, the ability of students, and student attitudes. Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) was conducted on students of Architectural Engineering, Faculty of Engineering UR S1 are taking courses in Architectural Design Studio 2010/2011 academic year, are 22 students. Four cycles of study procedures are planning, action, observation and reflection. Quantitive analysis was used to data analysis. The result of the research was the assessment of knowledge of the supervisor, supervisor attitudes, and the studio administration systems are good category.

Abstract

The effect of PowerPoint Presentation–based (PPPb) quiz to the students’ scores has been rarely studied. It is the intention of this research to understand the effect of PPPb quiz to students score in wave motion and the students’ experiences under such a strategy. This research used a mixed approach: quasi-experimental to learn if scores gain was significant, and thematic analysis was used to know the experiences of the students. The results confirmed that PPPb quiz has indeed increased the scores of the students. Statistical analysis verified that this increase was significant. On the thematic analysis, students manifested comparing oral quiz to PPPb, caught their attention, and vivid communication. Therefore, the effect of PPPb was significant to the students because it positively impacted their scores in wave motion and promoted vivid communication among students.

Abstract

The Academic performance of the student depends on a number of factors such as teachers, student and school related variables. Hence, this study was conducted to analyze the factors which affect the academic performance of students. Primary and secondary data were used for the study. In this paper, students’ results were taken from record office. Multiple regressions, chi-square test, correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. The result of the chi-square test and correlation analysis portrayed that teachers educational level, experience, subject matter knowledge, students interest towards education, attendance, parents educational level, parents income, distance of the school from the students home, the availability of materials, text book and language skill of students have an influence for the academic success of students. Besides, keeping other variables constant, 14.8 % and 62.7% variability of students’ academic performance was explained by teacher and school related variables whereas the overall 74.2 % of variations of students’ results were explained by 19 variables applied for this study. The overall relationship was statistically significant (F19, 23=8.592, P less than 0.001). It is recommended that analyzing and understanding of teachers, students, parents, school educational expert and related variables are very essential to improve the academic performance of students.

Abstract

Math anxiety is a common phenomenon which can have a negative impact on numerical and arithmetic performance. However, so far little is known about the underlying neurocognitive mechanisms. This mini review provides an overview of studies investigating the neural correlates of math anxiety which provide several hints regarding its influence on math performance: while behavioral studies mostly observe an influence of math anxiety on difficult math tasks, neurophysiological studies show that processing efficiency is already affected in basic number processing. The purpose of this study is to provide some treatments to overcome students’ anxiety in math classroom at The University of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto, Indonesia especially in Math Department, but before it has attempted to investigate the factors that students’ anxiety can possibly stem from, both within the classroom environment and out of classroom in the wilder social context.

Abstract

Research reveals that private or home tuition after school time plays a crucial role in strengthening and improving student’s academic achievement. The purpose of the study was to explore the effects of private tuition on the academic achievement of students in subject of mathematics at secondary school level. All the students at secondary school level in Kohat Division (Pakistan) constituted the population of the study. The study was delimited to the students of Government High School Ahmadi Banda Karak only. Fifty students of class 09 were selected as sample of the study. Sample students were divided into two groups i.e. control group and experimental group by equating them on the basis of their previous knowledge in subject of mathematics as determined through a pre-test. Each group was composed of 25 students. Students of the experimental group were engaged in tuition for two hours after school time. The study was experimental in nature therefore, “The pre-test-post-test Equivalent Groups Design” was used for the collection of data. Statistical tools i.e. the mean, standard deviation and differences of means were computed for each group. Significance of difference between the mean scores of both the experimental and control groups on the variable of pre-test and post test scores was tested at 0.05 levels by applying t-test. After statistical analysis of the data, the researchers concluded that there is significant positive effect of private tuition on the academic achievement of students in subject of mathematics at secondary school level. Based on the findings, it was recommended that parents should arrange private tuition for their children to move up their achievement level in subject of mathematics.

Abstract

Reduplication as a word-formation process in Mandarin, which is one of the most difficult knowledge to comprehend for scholar and student. Theoretically this research offers an approach that is different from what has been made by previous researchers. Using the M.D.S Simatupang free context approach this research contrasts the reduplicative forms of all word classes and shows the relationships between them (AA, AABB, ABAB, ABB) and their basic forms (A, AB), then based on test of categorical word and test of lexical decomposition as proposed by J.W.M Verhaar, this study analyzes and explains reduplication and inflectional reduplication in Mandarin in order to students understand as their meaning vocabularies. As a result, this research examines the derivational and inflectional reduplication in Mandarin all at once can disseminate the use of morphological theory. In addition, this study discusses Mandarin reduplication based on various word classes that are contained as a basis for the relevant form of reduplication. Beginner research results will be presented in this study in order to stimulate more complete writing, it will be better if this research can be disseminated in order to add learning and reading material for future research.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the implementation of the design model evaluation of CSE-UCLA (Center for the Study of Evaluation-University of California in Los Angeles) modified by the weighted product method into an application evaluation and conduct field trials against simulation application in order to obtain a reliable application used in evaluating digital library services as a complementary learning process at a computer college in Bali. The method that was used in this research was R and D, with a model design of the Borg and the Gall consists of 10 development stages. However, specialized on research this year implemented making the application and field trials as a form of implementation of the draft models that have been produced the previous year. The subject of the research involved in the simulation field trials as much as 2 education experts and 2 informatics experts. Technical analysis in this research was descriptive statistics. The results obtained in this research in the form of applications that have been tested and ready to use for the test on the more respondent and wider coverage.

Reasonable effort should be made to remove all past references to this paper.The presenting author of this paper has the option to appeal this decision by contacting edulearn@journal.uad.ac.id.-----------------------------------------------------------------------Mostly in Eastern religions, particularly in Indonesia the ancient Imperial cults of Borobudur temple as Buddhism, ritually celebrate their beliefs as a congregation where prayer and religious addresses are a communal activity. This culture is interesting to study whether building a place of worship is built on the cultural elements or there is a correlation with formula or complicated calculations about how the building is erected . The mathematical study for Borobudur’s architectural design has once related to answer the question about the metric system used by ancient Javanese to build such giant buildings with good measurement. Fractal dimension is calculated by using the cube counting method and found that the dimension is , which is laid between the two-dimensional plane and three dimensional space. The applied fractal geometry and self-similarity of the building is emerged as the building process implement the metric rules, since there is no universal metric standard known in ancient traditional Javanese culture thus the architecture is not based on final master plan. The paper also proposes how the hypothetical algorithmic architecture might be applied computationally in order to see some experimental generations of similar building. The paper ends with some conjectures for further challenge and  insights related to fractal geometry in Javanese traditional cultural heritages.
