Abstract

The aim of the study was to develop Gravity comic learning media based on Gorontalo culture for V grade Elementary School students. The type of the research was developmental referring to the design of 4-D model according to Thiagarajan, Semmel, and Semmel (1974) which consisted of 4 stages; define, design, develop and disseminate. The results of this study indicated that the developed gravity comic are valid and could increase students’ responses to learning. This cultural-based comic introduces Gorontalo regional cultures. The percentage of the students’ active participation was 93.27% for limited trial and the average students’ active participation in field trial was 94.94%. The students’ learning result gave 86.75% of classical completeness data for the limited test class, while the field test class obtained an average percentage of 87.37%, and categorized as very good. Therefore, the developed Comic of Gravity materials was declared valid, practical and effective. In sum, it would be useful for science learning process in grade V of Elementary School.

Abstract

This research came up from the unavailability of the physics teaching materials containing the local wisdom of Tabalong Regency society, South Kalimantan, and the less optimal character education in the learning process. Therefore, the research and development on the physics teaching materials based on the local wisdom of Tabalong regency, South Kalimantan to train saraba kawa character were conducted. The objective of this study was to produce feasible physics teaching materials integrated with the local wisdom based on the aspects of validity, practicality, effectivity, and character achievement. This research type is a research and development using ADDIE model. The subjects of the try out were 36 grade X students of MIPA in 4 SMA Negeri 2 Tanjung Tabalong Regency. The instruments used in this study were validation sheet, response questionnaire, student achievement results, and character observation sheet. The results showed that: (1) the validity of the teaching materials based on its content and appearance was in a good category, (2) the practicality of the teaching material categorized as very practical, (3) the effectiveness of the medium categorized as very practical, (4) and the achievement of saraba kawa character categorized as very good. It concluded that the physics teaching materials based on the local wisdom to train saraba kawa character is feasible for physics learning.

Abstract

This purpose of this research was to analyze the influence of blended physics learning with e-scaffolding on the gas kinetic theory to the students’ scientific explanation. This research used quasi-experimentation with one group pretest-posttest design. The population of this research included the grade XI students of Natural Sciences in SMA Negeri 1 Bangkalan. The proposed hypothesis was that the blended physics learning with e-scaffolding affected the students’ scientific explanation. The research results indicated that the students’ scientific explanation ability significantly increased after they experienced blended physics learning with e-scaffolding. All aspects of scientific explanation, that was the claim, evidence, and reasoning improved significantly.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to enhance K-10 students’ conceptions through Computer Simulations-Aided PDEODE*E (CS-PDEODE*E) on Newton’s Laws. The PDEODE*E is a worksheet consisting of seven stages, which are Predict (P), Discuss (D), Explain (E), Observe (O), Discuss (D), Explore (E*) and Explain (E). The computer simulations could support learning via PDEODE*E worksheet by presenting physics’ phenomena. The Newton’s Laws focused on forces and Newton’s First Law. The research method used the 4D (Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate). The research sample included 30 K-10 students (15 boys and 15 girls, with the average age of 16 years-old). The students’ conceptions were identified through a Four-Tier Newtonian Test (FTNT) as pre- and post-test. In the developing phase, we acquired the product of computer simulations and PDEODE*E worksheet. In the disseminating phase, the value of effect size was 0.85 in the "large effect" of classification and tcount>ttable, thus, CS-PDEODE*E was more effective than CS-POE. The decisions succumbed that the students’ conceptions could be enhanced via PDEODE*E based computer simulations.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the validation of Andro-web comics on Work and Energy topic. To achieve the objective, this study was designed referring to ADDIE model, i.e, Analysis, Design, Development or Production, Implementation or Deliver, and Evaluations. The Andro-web comics could be accessed using a digital comic application, Webtoon. It is downloadable in Play store or App store. The Andro-web comics is compatible with all devices including mobile devices (phone, tablet, iPod, PDA, and smartphone) and PC/Mac. Based on the expert judgment, the Andro-web comics is suitable for learning. The Instructional-Based Andro-Web Comics is alternative instructional materials for teachers to attract students’ attention and help them studying easily and practically as it provides an interesting illustration with simple language. It could also be used wherever and whenever without teacher’s guidance. Both teachers and students could communicate on the comment column which is available in the application without time and place limitation.

Abstract

Colloid chemistry learning at SMAN 1 Mijen Demak had a less useful impact as it has not integrated the process of making with the products needed in everyday life. The lesson also did not equip students with the skills in entering the entrepreneurship world. The observation results indicated that the XI IPA1 grade students in SMAN 1 Mijen Demak had low entrepreneurial interest and motivation. This was due to the tedious and less-motivated chemistry learning. Therefore, this study aimed to increase the students' entrepreneurial interest and learning motivation on colloid materials through Integrated Cooperative Inquiry Process strategy. A classroom action research applied in this research consisted of three cycles. Each cycle had several stages which were planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The data on the students’ entrepreneurial interest and learning motivation were collected through observation and questionnaire. The descriptive analysis was adopted in this research. The data were analysed using the average mastery and proportion. Based on the analysis of cycles I, II and III, the percentage of the students’ entrepreneurship interest increased from 47.64% to 51.17%; 72,16% and 81,10% having 38 students achieved the mastery learning. While the learning motivation increased from 49.55% to 56.08%; 68.21% and 76.32% having 37 students reached the mastery learning. It concluded that the CIPI (Cooperative Integrated Process Inquiry) with CEP (Chemo entrepreneurship) approach could increase the students’ entrepreneurial interest and learning motivation.

Abstract

This research intended to know how the spatial intelligence and students' achievement support the creativity of prospective student teachers. This study was conducted on the subject of plant anatomy with visuospatial-based learning. The visuospatial-based learning model used in this study is called the wimba learning model. The method of this research was a quantitative /quasi-experiment with the pre- and post-test group design. The population was fourth-semester students in four classes of Biology Education who took Plant Anatomy course in 2017 in a university situated a small town, West Java, Indonesia. The sample of this research was two classes picked using the purposive sampling regarding their homogenous sampling of having the same relative ability. The treatments for each class was that the use of the deductive and inductive approach. The variables measured were spatial intelligence, students’ achievement and creativity of TCIA (Test of Creative Imagery Abilities). The data processing adopting multiple correlation tests with SPSS was to see the relationship between the variables. The results showed that spatial intelligence and students’ achievement could support creativity at a moderate level, indicated by the value of Rdeductive = 0,451 and Rinductive = 0,474, Rinductive > Rdeductive, which meant that the inductive approach was better to support creativity. In conclusion, spatial intelligence and students’ achievement could support creativity, especially the inductive approach. The results of this study could be useful to improve the creativity of prospective biology teachers.

Abstract

Elementary school students’ achievement in natural science in the academic year of 2015/2016 at Cluster V, Buleleng regency, Bali province was considerably low. An early observation also revealed low motivation, negative attitudes towards teachers, low self-esteem and low confidence in self-capability. Therefore, a breakthrough approach was urgently required to improve the students' performance in natural science learning. The current article aimed at investigating the effects of the (Nature of Science) NOS-oriented cooperative learning model with the Numbered Head Together (NHT) on the elementary school students’ achievement in natural science. The study was a quasi-experimental research adopting the post-test only control group design. The research conducted in elementary schools in Cluster V Buleleng sub-district, Buleleng regency, Bali, Indonesia. The research subject was 137 students in Grade 5 consisting of six classes from  5 elementary schools. The hypothesis was examined using an inferential statistics, the t-test. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the learning results of natural science between the students taught with the NOS-oriented cooperative learning model with the NHT type and those with the conventional learning model (t count = 7,048 >t table = 2,000). The students taught with the NOS-oriented constructive learning model with the NHT type achieved better than those with the conventional learning model. Therefore, it concluded that the NOS-oriented cooperative learning model with the NHT type gave positive effects on the fifth year students’ achievement in natural science learning.

Abstract

Malaria is a disease caused by parasitic protozoa (Plasmodium) carried by a vector of mosquitoes. There are approximately 100 million regions around the world at risk of malaria. One of the endemic areas of malaria in Indonesia is Papua. Manokwari is one of the districts in West Papua that has a high number of malaria patients. The purpose of this study was to investigate mosquitoes Plasmodium parasites, and malaria in West Manokwari District. The research procedure applied initial survey of the place where malaria vector was captured, capturing malaria vector, general environmental measurement, mosquito species identification, plasmodium examination on mosquito of malaria vector, and plasmodium examination on malaria patient. The total sample obtained from 3 areas was 1550 patients and 496 mosquitos with average numbers up to 150 mosquitos per area.The physical environment, including rainfall, temperature, humidity, altitude, and environmental conditions inside and outside the home greatly affected the incidence of Malaria in Manokwari, West Papua. Malaria is a serious health problem in Indonesia. The physical condition of the environment is the main factor influencing it.The results showed that the type of malaria vector found in West Manokwari region comes from two genera namely Culicidae and Anophelidae. Each malaria vector could carry infections from Plasmodium vivax or Plasmodium falciparum. There are two kinds of Plasmodium parasites that infected humans in Manokwari; Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax.

Abstract

Magnobolt is a teaching aid built on hands-on activity and exercises. This study examined a framework that could integrate both theoretical and practical of learning science in Malaysia. ADDIE model was used for Magnobolt module development. The perception of 300 science teachers across the Perak on Magnobolt studied via questionnaire includes two parts; Pedagogical Approach to Teaching and Learning and training suitability. The reliability for Magnobolt was tested on a total of 30 teachers which were not involved in the actual study. An analysis of the Cronbach’s Alpha exhibits 0.945 showed very good reliability. Three content domain experts were involved to evaluate the validity of the Magnobolt. A real case study on 300 science teachers agreed that the Magnobolt was developed for a pedagogical approach to teaching and learning and suitable for training with the total mean score of 4.34 and 4.25 respectively. This science module also injects the element of creativity and innovation to build fun in learning science and creative capacity of teachers.
