Abstract

Colloid chemistry learning at SMAN 1 Mijen Demak had a less useful impact as it has not integrated the process of making with the products needed in everyday life. The lesson also did not equip students with the skills in entering the entrepreneurship world. The observation results indicated that the XI IPA1 grade students in SMAN 1 Mijen Demak had low entrepreneurial interest and motivation. This was due to the tedious and less-motivated chemistry learning. Therefore, this study aimed to increase the students' entrepreneurial interest and learning motivation on colloid materials through Integrated Cooperative Inquiry Process strategy. A classroom action research applied in this research consisted of three cycles. Each cycle had several stages which were planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The data on the students’ entrepreneurial interest and learning motivation were collected through observation and questionnaire. The descriptive analysis was adopted in this research. The data were analysed using the average mastery and proportion. Based on the analysis of cycles I, II and III, the percentage of the students’ entrepreneurship interest increased from 47.64% to 51.17%; 72,16% and 81,10% having 38 students achieved the mastery learning. While the learning motivation increased from 49.55% to 56.08%; 68.21% and 76.32% having 37 students reached the mastery learning. It concluded that the CIPI (Cooperative Integrated Process Inquiry) with CEP (Chemo entrepreneurship) approach could increase the students’ entrepreneurial interest and learning motivation.

Abstract

The results of previous researches indicated that there were problems with the mental model and students’ conceptual understanding of the action-reaction law (Newton’s third law, NTL). This research aimed to reveal the effect of a simple approach in teaching NTL. The research was conducted in the first-year of pre-service physics teachers at the Physics Education Department of Tadulako University. Research designs for three consecutive years were (1) one-group, pre-test, and post-test design, (2) a static group comparison (pre-test for the experimental group), and (3) a quasi-experimental. The approach used was an interactive demonstration that consisted of five phases, i.e: eliciting an intuitive argument, demonstrating a continuous force: pulling, demonstrating a continuous force: pushing, demonstrating impulsive force: collisions, and refining the concept with Elby’s pair. Data were collected using a multiple-choice test developed in previous research. The results of the data analyses showed that the approach could improve students’ understanding of the action-reaction law, supporting conceptual change by exhibiting N-gain in the moderate and high categories. The instructional design can be considered for implementation in learning in high schools, lecture on pre-service physics teachers and basic physics lecture, in general..

Abstract

Naturalistic intelligence is a part of multiple intelligences, while problem-solving skills are part of higher-order thinking. Both are learning outcomes required to be developed and improved since these competencies were considered poor in Indonesia. The field trip is a learning method that can encourage students to interact directly with the real object in nature. That learning method is expected to improve students’ naturalistic intelligence and problem-solving skills. In this case, this research was conducted to discover the influence of field trip on students’ naturalistic intelligence and problem-solving skills. This research was experimental research using pre-test and post-test design.  The eighth-graders of Islamic school (Madrasah Tsanawiyah) Pameungpeuk, Garut, year of 2017/2018 were employed as the respondents. The obtained data were analyzed using the average comparison tests, which were t-test (for parametric data) and Wilcoxon test (for nonparametric data) with α value of 0.05. Based on the analysis, there was a significant difference in students’ natural intelligence with the sign value of 00,05. These results were supported by the percentage of the affective aspect questionnaire in naturalistic intelligence. In problem-solving skills analysis, the test score revealed a significant difference with a signed value of 0.025 even though the results of the questionnaire only showed a slight difference. Therefore, it was concluded that field trip influenced students’ naturalistic intelligence, however, it had no influence on the affective aspect of problem-solving skills, and conversely, it influenced the cognitive aspect of problem-solving skills. The field trip is potential to be an alternative method for the teacher in junior high school to improve naturalistic intelligence and problem-solving skills applied in ecosystem subject.
