Abstract

This classroom action research was conducted to analyze the development of the students’ inquiry abilities in science learning by a learning model of mindmap educative by using game observation normatively (Megono). The study was conducted in three cycles. In each cycle, the students were divided into five groups, each groups consisted of seven students. Each group was mandated to observe and to analyze the images/photos. After the image observations, they were asked to discuss, write and compile the information into a concept map.  One of the students was act as a representative of the group in a game of observation. Data were obtained through the pre-test, post-test, and observation by the observers as well as from the photo and video recording. The results showed that the students’ inquiry ability increased by 63.27% at the end of the cycle. At the initial conditions, the ability of the student was low (0.49). After the first cycle, it increased to 0.63 (medium), and then increased to 0.68 (moderate) on the second cycle, and finally it increased to 0.80 (high) in the third cycle. The average increase in every aspect was 68.59%.  The highest inquiry capability was achieved in aspects of reasoning amounted to 89.29 (very high). It was suggested to use the observation games fairly and needed more time adjustment to obtain higher learning outcomes.

Abstract

Batik wastewater is one of the environmental problems which has become a significant water pollution problem recently. It contains a large variety of synthetic dyes, chemicals, and has high chemical oxygen demand (COD). Synthetic dyes are difficult to degrade and have recalcitrant and toxic characteristics. Dyes can be degraded by ligninolytic enzymes, including laccase (Lac), manganese peroxidase (MnP), and lignin peroxidase (LiP). The immobilized ligninolytic enzyme is effectively used to enhance the degradation of dye wastewater. Pleurotus ostreatus, the most abundant ligninolytic enzyme source, is the candidate to regenerate fungal biomass as the bioremediation agent. Immobilization of ligninolytic enzyme using alginate was observed in this study for its efficiency to decolorize and decrease COD concentration of RBBR dye and Naphtol batik wastewater in different time periods (0, 2, 4, 6, 24, 48, 72 h) and growth conditions (static and agitated). The results show that the Lac, MnP, LnP activities of P. ostreatus are 200.43, 9.714, 12938.60 U/l, respectively. Static conditions within 48 hours exhibit the highest percentage of decolorization of dye. Ligninolytic immobilized from its condition has decolorized RBBR dye up to 75.88%, while the percentage of decolorization of agitated culture is 68.09%. This ligninolytic immobilized has decolorized about 94.867% of batik wastewater within 24 hours under a static condition. It is also able to decrease the COD level of the batik wastewater containing Naphtol dye (504 to 233 mg/l) within 24 hours under a shaking condition. Immobilization of enzyme has been a promising alternative for decolorization of dye and batik wastewater.

Abstract

Many recent studies have reported that feedback plays a very important role in students’ learning outcomes. However, currently, feedback has not been utilized by lecturers and students in the learning process effectively. This study aimed to explore the impact of feedback as a soft scaffolding in the ongoing assessment of Quantum Physics class for the students as prospective Physics teachers. A quasi-experimental design non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group was used to examine the effectiveness of feedback based on ongoing assessment. The results of the study revealed that students who received feedback based on metacognitive and social constructivism on studying Quantum Physics showed better average results compared to students who received traditional feedback based on the cognitivism in the form of correction.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of senior high school physics book both interactive electronic and printed, viewed from the difference in gender and material characteristics. The research used Quasi-Experimental Design with Non-Equivalent posttest-pretest control group design. The data were collected through physics tests from six senior high schools in Lampung Province, Indonesia and analyzed on ANOVA and multiple comparisons to determine the differences in learning outcomes (affectivity) and interaction between interactive electronic and printed, gender, and material characteristics. The results showed that there were different learning outcomes caused by interactive electronic and printed physics book (p=0.0000.05). The learning outcomes using interactive electronic books were better than using printed books for both male and female students while gender differences did not affect physics learning outcomes for both interactive electronic and printed books (p=0.9630.05). There was no interaction between interactive electronic and printed books and gender (p= 0.2980.05). There are differences in learning outcomes caused by physical material characteristics (p= 0.000 0.05). Therefore, it concluded that the high school interactive physics electronic book was effectively used as a learning resource for both male and female students.

Abstract

Students’ misconceptions have become phenomenon in teaching and learning, especially in chemistry which is considered as difficult subject. The objective of this study is to identify undergraduate student’s misconception profiles related to acid-base concepts in inorganic chemistry. This test was conducted with 15 item three tier multiple choices test. Data were identified descriptively and qualitatively. This test instruments are judged as valid with CVR score of 0,99 and mean of 1,73. Meanwhile, the reliability for this instrument varies for each tier combination; for tier one only, r11 was given reliability score for 0,93; for combination tier one and tier two, r11 score was 0,90, and for combination of all tiers, r11 score was 0,81. The test conducted revealed that average percentage of misconception in this test is 33.31% for all items. The highest misconception profile is 60,61% in item no.6 hard soft acid base concept. This includes 15,15% misconception false positive, 9,09% misconception false negative, and 36.36% specific misconception.

Abstract

This current study is an ethnoecological study on land use for plant diversity by the Sasak people in Mandalika, Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara. Interview and direct observation methods were implemented. The study areas included the villages of Kuta, Mertak, and Sengkol. The results indicated four main groups of land: Leleah (a yard or home garden), bangket (rice fields, including the bangket gora; rice fields nurtured by rainfalls), kebon (gardens, including kebon kayo or garden of woody plants and kebon elalo or garden of crops), and gawah (forests, including gawah mali or sacred forests). This study results showed that despite the stress of a constantly changing environment and various restrictions and limitations, the ethnoecological knowledge in local wisdom is still maintained well.

Abstract

The misconception is one of the obstacles in the concept mastery that needed to be minimalized. This descriptive study was conducted to find the patterns of misconceptions which have occurred on college students who participating in the redox titration course subject. Efforts to minimize misconceptions have been conducted through lectures using the multiple representations with the cognitive dissonance strategies on the 30 students who joined the Fundamentals of Analytical Chemistry course. The research instrument used in this study was 6 multiple-choice tests with reasons. In order to detect the misconception, Certainty of Response Index technique was performed. The preliminary study results showed that 34.30% of students experiencing the misconceptions on redox titration. After treatments, the misconceptions reduced to 28.17%. A misconception that cannot be eliminated was related to the concepts involving in the microscopic and symbolic appearances.
