Abstract

The greenhouse effect is caused by increasing emissions of greenhouse gases, e.g. carbon dioxide, in the atmosphere leading to the global warming problem. Thus necessary efforts to reduce the CO2 emissions are required, e.g. amine-based absorption method. Protonation constant is required for the VLE modeling needed in designing absorber and desorber column. For this purpose, an experimental setup was designed to measure alkanolamine protonation constants (pKa). However, the setup needs to be validated by measuring the protonation constants of acetic acid at a range of temperatures from 30 to 70°C. The validation results obtained were in good agreement with the literature data. For example, the pKa of the acetic acid at 30°C is 4.751 and this gives a deviation of 0.18% from the literature data.

Abstract

This paper reports an attempt to improve the performance of environmentally friendly bio-based lube oil prepared from glycerol and oleic acid. Four variant of boric acid esters, fortified with 2,5dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazol, aromatic amine antioxidant, and benzotriazol were used as additives. The oxidation & corrosion test was carried out using the bulk test at 150oC for 24 h. Steel & copper specimens weight losses and kinematic viscosity increase (measured at 40oC and 100oC according to ASTM D-445) were used to measure the effect of formulation to the corrosiveness and oxidation stability of the oil, respectively. Experimental results indicated that nitrogen-containing boric acid esters showed better performance in terms of oxidation stability improvement. Slight increases in corrosiveness were shown for all additive systems. Phenyl-1-naphtylamine showed better performance than diphenylamine antioxidant.

Abstract

Waste from orange peel contains pectin that can be utilized as raw material to produce drug delivery system membrane for various types of drugs. Drug loading and release behavior of the membrane can be controlled by adding crosslinker (K2SO4). This research aimed to study the effect of crosslinker composition to the salicylic acid loading as an example of antibiotics. Pectin was dissolved in water, mixed with plasticizers and the variation of K2SO4 solution were 0, 0.1, and 0.2 g / mL at temperature 66°C. The mixture was dried in an oven at temperature 50°C for about 15 hours. The analysis have been done were drug loading, gel sweeling and FTIR. The results show that the more concentration of crosslinker added, the loading of salicylic acid were influenced in range 0.031 – 0.045 g/mL. The parameters estimated by adding K2SO4 crosslinker were gel swelling in range 0,11-0,29 g, whereas FTIR analysis has not significant changein each concentration.

Abstract

Herbs widely circulated in the powder form wrapped in packaging with certain dose. To make it easier to measure the dose, it needs to develop a new design. In a product design, packaging use is as a wrapper and a promotional materials to attract customers. Therefore, the need for designing is accordance with the taste and desires of the customer’s psychological. Kansei Engineering approach is used to translating the customer feelings and impressions into the design parameters. The consumer criteria are identified by paper-based survey and validation test is used to test the hypothesis. Supported by the test, result of this study are able to produce packaging that satisfy the customer’s psychological desires.

Abstract

Inorganic materials (such as silica and alumina) is a material that is very important and the most desirable in the field of membrane technology. This is due to the physical characteristics and permeation properties owned by the two materials is much better when compared to other polymerbased material. Alumina, for example, this material mostly can be found in clay, and the price is much cheaper as well as easy to find if compared to silica material. The use of peat clay as raw material to produce alumina as membranes support from natural materials would save production costs. This material is also easy to find in South Kalimantan especially around the wetland areas. The aim of this study is to characterize the peat clay as raw material to fabricate membranes module (membranes support). The method is by drying the clay material in uniform particle size (monosize). The raw material powder is then mixed with the organic additives. This organic content provide the hydrophilicity and prorosity agent. Furthermore, it then was calcined and characterized to determine the functional group of the material weather it is more hydrophilicity and porosity. The result shows that the addition of H2O and starch content of functional groups affect the content of the Si-O-Si and Si-O-Al groups on clay material. The content of Si-O-Si and Si-O-Al decreases if content of H2O and starch is higher. It is shown that the streching the Si-OH groups that are more hydrophilic transform into Si-O-Si and Si-O-Al groups that are more hydrophobic. Therefore, the calcined material will be more hydrophobic and more porous.

Abstract

Main discussion of this study is about the need proper entrepreneurship training program in higher education, especially for students, this study aims to acquire as well as to develop a proper entrepreneurial training model to improve ability of business management among students. The approach Model used in this study are ; 1) the development model of training science and technology for Entrepreneurship (IbK) , 2) model of Problem Based Learning (PBL) is one of the training strategy oriented contectual teaching and learning process (CTL) .The CTL  training concept helps the  trainers / instructors / teachers to links materials with real world situations as well as to encourage the participants  using their knowledge to be applied in their real life situation the members of society. From the training model implementation results, it can be concluded that: 1) The training model combining The Problem Based Learning (PBL) and the  development of  science and technology training model for Entrepreneurship (IbK )could be effectively applied in an  entrepreneurship training program for higher education level students, 2 ) This model succesfully synergize the materials / theories of the training to the real world situations ; 3) This model also works to build the teamwork. Finally, this model manage to indicate its effectiveness by the level of attendance at  90%, as well as teamwork formed in making innovative, original and worth-to-be implemented business proposal.

Abstract

Batik is a visual art that integral to the cultural identity as well as illustrates the life values upon which the life of community is laid. It uses a technique of wax resist dyeing applied to whole cloth. This research aims to know the composition of beeswax that required on batik klowong and to know its effect to the results. The research used both qualitative and quantitative methods such as ingredients measurement technique, questionnaire distribution and voters calculation. The wax for batik klowong consist of beeswax, resin, and white paraffin. The beeswax is an independent variable that is varied in the composition for five different sample (10 gram, 20gram, 30gram, 40gram , 50gram). The sharpnesss of the motifs is visually analysed by six respondents. The results showed that sample D and E have better quality than the other samples. While sample A has the highest level of motifs sharpness.

Abstract

In Indonesia the yield of sawmill industry waste is about 50-60%, the 15 up to 20%  of this waste consists of wood powder and so far there is not an optimum utilization.  This experiment was conducted in order to process wood powder of jackfruit into activated carbon as adsorbent of heavy metals in the wastewater treatment. Activated carbon processing was performed at various temperature. Instrumental analysis was carried out with SEM-EDX and FTIR to determine the characteristics of the activated carbon. The size of pore diameter was measured with SEM, resulted macropore surface pores. Infra red spectra showed nitrile triple bond C≡N and hidroxyl bond O-H. Based on those bonds, activated carbon from jackfruit could be an adsorbent of acid gas and water. The best conditions resulted adsorption capacity of methylene blue 55 mg/g with percent removal 40.70%

Abstract

Shoes are footwears needed by everyone such as employees, housewives, students or any other profession to do their activity. One example of profession that wears shoes in doing their work is a nurse in the hospital. An intial observation done to the nurse profession in the hospital shows that there is a problem in the condition of the shoes they wear. The shoes condition is not suitable to the characterisctic of the work, as well as to the condition of the workplace enviroment, which could lead to fatigue to the nurses and significantly influence the stress level of the nurses. The study aims to design a shoes that meet the the consumers wishes and the ergonomic value which eventually could be proposed as the improvement design for the nurse shoes. The method used in this study is Quality Function Deployment (QFD) as a design method used to determine the priority needs and desires of consumers, as well as to classify them. From the data processing and analysing, it is shown that the innovation made in the shoes for nurses are on the material used, which previously used a cow skin and now it uses velvet, in order to reduce the production cost; the heel design of the shoes which is modified to be more varies to meet the nurse needs; the replacement on the soles materials so they would not be slippery and they would cost less.
