Abstract

The changes of market structure from monopoly to duopoly is proposed to introduce the competition to the company. In the new market structure, duopoly, the company must be establish the competitive strategy that could be implemented and then establish the best competitive strategy. This research addresses the problem of capacity expansion, i.e., to formuate a capacity expansion model for a local access cable broadband telecommunication network. The model covers the market structure, duopoly, and the technologicai innovation. In the model, the market structure was represented by the market leader and market chalenger, while the technological innovation was represented by the rate of technological innovation paramater. Market leader was established three competitive strategy, i.e., preemptive defense, position defense, and counteroffensive defense, while market challenger was established two competitive strategy, i.e., encirclement attack and frontal attack.The model was optimized by the first derivative. Numerical experience and analysis are shown in this paper.Keywords: capacity expansion, local access cable telecommunication network, duopoly market, technological innovation.

Abstract

All of the production activity   in a company cannot be separated with the material handling activity. There are a lot of companies that still use the traditional work system in the material handling activity, namely manual material handling systems. CV. Graffity Labelindo is one of company which conducts material handling mostly using human power, especially the material handling activities done by the lamination machine operators. This activities lifting materials about 6-15 kg from the bottom (floor) into the top, makes workers have to bent  to lift the materials, and then carry the materials by hand while moving about 20-24 meters.. Based on the results of questionnaires Nordic Body Map the biggest complaint that perceived lamination machine operator found on the neck, arms, thighs, waist, and back. The methods used in this research is OWAS  (Ovako Working  Analysis System). According to the data processing, the result shows that almost all the material handling activity done by the lamination machine is included in the risk category 3 (three) which is positions with harmful effects on the musculoskeletal system (high risk) an require the corrective action. The corrective action done to reduce or prevent risks of musculoskeletal disorders on the operator lamination machine is designing work facilities and improvements to the working methods. The results of the improvements can lower risk category operators lamination machine into risk category 1 (one) as to its normal position without any effects that can interfere with the musculoskeletal system (low risk).

Abstract

Corrosion is degradation of the metal due to an oxidation reaction between the metal with many substances that exist in the environment around them and form undesirable compounds. Corrosion can not be prevented, but still can be controlled its speed. One of the corrosion control process in a material can be used a  coating and cathodic protection by providing a forced flow. At this time the research conducted will learn about the effect of the rectangular scratch defect and the acid soil pH to the needs of current protection in the impressed current cathodic protection system (ICCP). The variation of given scratch is rectangular with each area of 10 mm2, 50 mm2, 100 mm2, 150 mm2, 250 mm2 and 500 mm2. While the differences in soil pH use is pH 3, pH 5, and pH 7. Then there is also a specimen without scratch and without layers of protection that is used as a comparison. In the ICCP system installation, AISI 1045 steel is used as the cathode and graphite as the anode. The system used a rectifier that is useful for current rectifier. The flow of the ICCP protection is set such that the value of the potential difference can reach -850 mV against the reference electrode Cu / CuSO4. Measurement of the current protection on the ICCP system performed during the 7 days with daily data retrieval. After obtained the measurement of the current protection value, showed that the greatest current protection value with 500 mm2 defect area in acidic soils (pH 3) that is equal to 1.696 mA. While the smallest current protection in area of 10 mm2 with normal soil that is equal to 0.032 mA. The influence of these two variables were calculated using multiple regression statistical analysis so as to get the equation Y = 0,11 + 0,008 X1 + 0,0004 X2. Where the value of X1 as soil pH conditions, X2 as scratch defect, and Y as current protection.

Abstract

Technology usage for elevating work productivity still cannot be separated from human control. Therefore, company performance will be affected by the operator’s quality. Computer interaction, as an example of technology used, is dominating the work performed. Continuous and repetitive used will affect the occupational health. Hence, it will increase the risk of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is defined as a collection of symptoms related to eyes caused by computer usage and affected by several factors. Those factors can be divided into individual and external factors. The problem of this research is to determine whether there is a relationship between CVS with the internal and external factors. The type of research is non experimental quantitative with correlational research design and cross sectional approach. While the respondents are twelve operators of Refinery Central Control Room (RCCR). Spearman Rho test is used to find relationship among variables. The results from this research indicate that there is correlation between age and the resulting CVS symptoms with the value of p is 0,04 (p<0 05). But, there are no correlation between CVS and other factors (eye glasses, length of work duration, break time, eye sides distance). Not all internal and external factors have correlation with the accuracy of CVS. This Research shows correlation between internal factors and CVS. It was aging. Aging is degenerative processes which lower the body function periodically. Therefore, there are correlation between age and CVS. But, there are not for other factors.

Abstract

Social networking sites are very popular. At this time a lot of social networking sites that emerge and evolve. Some of which the most popular are Facebook, Twitter, path, myspace. These sites are popular because it has many users from various groups including the student. Students including active users of social networking sites. The majority of the students even already have an account at more than one site of several social networking sites. Social networking sites can be used by students for a variety of purposes, one of them as a medium of learning. This research is a case study to explore the use of social networking sites as a medium of learning among the students. A total of 42 students were respondents in this study. Results of the analysis found that social networking sites are already quite familiar among students as a means to socialize as well as a learning medium. In addition, it features a social networking site which is used as a medium of learning is not much different from the usual features that are used for other purposes.

Abstract

Growing up in children is one aspect that is taken seriously by the parents, because it is an aspect related to the formation of a person. The role of parents for child growth can also affect how their children develop. Parents have different ways of caring for their children and the games provided do not help the child's development be more optimal. Children who are detected to experience developmental delay need special attention, therefore training children through suitable and appropriate games can improve their development. So it takes an expert system of early detection to determine the type of game that is in accordance with the development of gross motor, fine motor, language, and social behavior in children aged 0 to 6 years. The results of this study indicate that the type of game that is applied as an exercise for child development is appropriate and can be used to assist in improving child development optimally.

Abstract

Soybeans are nutritious foods that contain lots of protein. Foods made from soy beans that are often found is tempeh. The process production tempeh in Indonesia, both in industries or traditional scale are basically similar. The difference lies in the way of peeling the cuticle soybean seeds. Peeling skin soybeans traditionally have weaknesses, among others, in terms of time this process takes a long time, and in terms of cleanliness and health of the process is very unhygienic.  It is necessary to develop technologies and equipment to peeling the husk, clean and hygienic. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimum rotation soybeans the cuticle peeler and economic analysis. The design of manufacturing soybean the cuticle peeler using a variable rotation speed (rpm) based on the diameter of pulley: 10, 8, 7, 6, and 5-inch, clearance space: 2.0; 2.25, and 2.5 mm. The result is a soybean seed husk is peeled and cut into 2 (two). Manufacturing peeler cuticle of soybean type of screw and the high of pegs for soybean industry began with the design of forms, image design, selection of materials and processed with standard production equipment and test its performance. Optimization testing soybean peeler the cuticle by the rotation speed between the end of the peeler cylinder (cylindrical mill) with the body cylinder mill with a production capacity and testing variations size of pulley. Based on the test results it can be concluded that the optimal results peeler cuticle of soybean type of screw, the rotational speed in 386 rpm and 10 inches in diameter pulley and also in 2.5 mm of clearance space.

Abstract

Grounding is used as a protection equipment so as to prevent damage and protection for laboratory users. In designing the grounding must consider the economic aspect and simplicity. Viewed from the side economics and simplicity grounding rods forms that will be used in the design of grounding are multiple ground rods. Because the design is simple but can be obtained low resistance values. This grounding design used two wells which have different parameters, and the resulting R1 = 0.892 Ohm and R2 = 1.5414 Ohm. Because the first well has a smaller resistance value, it will be more effective and efficient when the final draft of grounding used two wells which have the same parameters as the first well, which then shunt connected that the smaller the resistance value amounting to 0.446 Ohm. In the design of the two wells used eight rod electrodes with a diameter of 16 mm and a length of each rod 1 meter. The resulting resistance value is very good to use as the installation of grounding in High Voltage Engineering Laboratory. To obtain a low resistance value is influenced by many factors, such as soil resistivity, a long electrode, the electrode fingers and multiplication factor.

Abstract

Sementara beberapa penelitian telah membuktikan bahwa Aloe Vera mengandung banyak senyawa aktif alami sebagai antibacterialagent, seperti Saponin, pemanfaatannya saat ini belum optimal. Ekstraksi padat-cair digunakan untuk mengekstrak Saponin dari Aloe Vera. Penelitian ini membahas penentuan kondisi operasi ekstraksi dan juga kinetika pemodelan untuk menentukan desain nilai parameter. Selain itu, uji pendahuluan aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak Aloe Vera dilakukan. Hasil yang diperoleh kondisi operasi optimum ekstraksi Aloe Vera dengan aquadest sebagai pelarut selama 90 menit dan suhu 100oC. Nilai parameter desain yang diperoleh dari proses ekstraksi yang kc = 14,76 cm. menit-1, De = 1.97 x10-6 cm2.minutes-1, dan H = 0,4435. Ekstrak ini juga terbukti menghambat aktivitas bakteri dengan daerah yang diperoleh dari zona jelas 0,0044 cm2.

Abstract

Methods for estimating speed be categorized into two classes, namely active method and passive methods. One method that can be used in speed estimation using a passive method is the Kalman filter. Kalman filter is an very effective estimator that is in estimating state dynamics system involving white noise. In this study, the Kalman filter will be used to estimate the variation of vehicle speed from a speed of 5 km/hour to 60 km/hour. Kalman filter is designed to get input in the form of cascading imagery of the vehicle video recordings. Results of the testing showed that speed can be minimum estimated is 20 km hour with an error of 4.25%. While the maximum estimated speed is 60 km/hour with an error of 0.22%.
