Abstract

The study aims to investigate (1) pattern of software piracy among Indonesianstudents?; and (2) motivating factors of the piracy? A survey to 122 undergraduate studentsin informatics discloses that rate of the software piracy among students is high. This finding isin line with the global software piracy statistics show that the piracy rate in Indonesia is veryhigh, though revenue loss to the piracy is very small (1.1%) when compared to that in US andCanada. Unaffordable price of legal software is the dominant reason. Software pricediscrimination, enacting and reinforcing appropriate law consistently, and encouraging touse open source software are recommended to combat the piracy.Keywords: software piracy, motivation, price discrimination.

Abstract

Text compression algorithms are normally defined in terms of a source alphabet of 8-bit ASCII codes. Huffman algorithm is the most popular methods of text compression. Thisresearch used static and adaptif Huffman algorithms to compress text data, and also compareit. Variation of character occurs will decrease compression ratio. Iteration time of staticHuffman algorithm for compress and decompress is faster than adaptif Huffman algorithm,but performance of adaptif Huffman algorithm is best.Keywords: text compression, static and adaptif huffman algorithm.

Abstract

Previous studies provide information system effectiveness measures. The current studyattempts to validate these measures in the Indonesian context. Based on the ReformulatedDeLone and McLean IS Success Model, this study conducted factor analysis to obtain a numberof underlying factors as well as items included in the model. The study that was administeredusing questionnaire survey concluded that there are some exogenous variables to explainnet benefits obtained from implementing an information system, for instance managementprocess, information existence, individual actualization, and decision-making effectiveness.Keywords: IS effectiveness, factor analysis, net benefits, IT satisfaction.

Abstract

Using information technology applications in real life situation could give manyadvantages. One such advantages can be seen in library collection management. Building anapplication for the library management system could be done in low cost, efficient andflexible manner through the using of open sources technology. This article describes aninitiatiave and architectural design of an online electronic document management system atthe Library of Engineering Faculty Maranatha Christian University Bandung, through theusing of open-sources and e-content technology. The second part of this article gives a list ofproblems that should be anticipated to ensure that electronic documents can be useful notonly today but also in the future. Long-term preservation strategy through the using of XMLtechnology is a good possible solution for document preservation problem. This strategy hasbeen observed and evaluated in many research projects in the past 5 years.Keywords: digital library, open sources technology, document preservation, metadata, econtent.

Abstract

Lack of attention to ergonomic factors such as attitude factor, job position, and jobdensity causes incidence uncomfortable job feeling. Hereinafter can cause accident andgenerate disease. Home industry like streets vendor process the product with special skill andcarefulness so that yield accuracy, beauty, good at measure, and according to order ofcustomer. This paper will present expert system application to detect and give solution touncomfortable job causes because of eyes strain, repetition and posture. To recognize patternpart of body along with grade of pain, cause, and solution used by artificial neural networkmethod (Back-Propagation) with trainbpx and Learning Vector Quantization. Result trainingof network obtained that to recognize cause pattern of feel pain, performance efficacytraining of trained network 99%, to recognize solution pattern of repetition cause obtained80%, hereinafter to recognize solution pattern of posture cause obtained 99%. The networkwhich have been trained can be used to predict solution and cause of uncomfortableness atdiffering case with the same variable.Keywords: expert system, neural network, back-propagation, learning vector quantization,ergonomic.

Abstract

This paper conducted on identifying topical coherency between paragraphs of anexpository text. Expository text is a kind of texts which is intended for publicity such asjournal, news etc. Many expository texts consist of long sequences of paragraphs with verylittle structural demarcation, while others consist of sequences of paragraph which stilldiscuss the same topic. This paper uses Similarity Coefficient to identify topical coherencybetween paragraphs. Similarity coefficient measures lexical similarity between adjacentparagraphs, with assumption that the more similar two adjacent paragraphs are, the morelikely it is that the current topic continues. Pengidentifikasi Keterkaitan Topik Antar Paragraf(PKTAP) is a software for identifying topical coherency between paragraphs of an expositorytext, which is developed based on this method. Topical coherency identification made byPKTAP is compared against judgments made by human readers. The result shows that thereaders have a high tendency to agree with PKTAP.Keywords: expository text, topical coherency, similarity coefficient

Abstract

This research target is to develop a simulator program to arrange the movement ofmachine CNC932, where the command conducted by speech. Examination conducted to seethe ability of system to translate of speech input for the movement commands of machineCNC932. Attempt to simulator done by giving 7 available commands conducted by 3 peopletester as much each 20 times.Before doing attempt tester trained their voice to program. Commands given by testerpass the microphone consisted of "kiri", "kanan", "maju", "mundur", "naik", "turun", " stop"and "bor”.Result of examination to simulator developed to be got to every command given getthe above efficacy level 85%. Command owning highest efficacy level is "maju" equal to96,7%, while command own the level of lowest efficacy is “kiri" equal to 88,3%.Keywords: simulator, speech, CNC932

Abstract

Natures of most applications data evolving with time, and previous data state is stillneeded for various things besides current state, such as trend analysis, decision making, andothers. Temporal data is a data inherently with time. Current data will be replaced with anew one. Database temporal is a bitemporal database. A database supports both historicaland transaction database capabilities; it represented with valid-time, and transaction-time.Database temporal can be implemented on relational database model, or object-orienteddatabase model. The low level implementation strategy of database temporal is proposed inthis paper. As consequence, temporal database management system must be built from thescratch. A temporal database engine must be built. Prototype of temporal database engineshave been built both on relational data model, and object-oriented data model.Kata kunci: data temporal, sistem basis data, basis data berorientasi obyek, basis datarelasional, basis data spasio-temporal.

Abstract

The quality and potential of human resources have an important rule in thedevelopment of a country. One of the challenges is the big number of human resources whoare spread to education distribution level. So it is needed an e-Media which can be used topresent information which can guarantee to do interaction among them. This paper willpropose the using an e-Media based on computer to e-Learning development, which will beimplemented on oscillation motion learning with Maple programming in Faculty ofInformation Technology--Satya Wacana Christian University in CD form.This e-Media modelcan create flexibility in learning of method, time and interactivity aspects and also canincrease interaction between teacher and student.
