Abstract

Adat and religious values played a significant role in the rise of social movements and people power during the Dutch colonial era which is evident in the dynamics of Bali in particular. For centuries, adat customary traditions had been deeply rooted in Balinese communities and strongly contributed to civilization and culture. However, certain factors, such as social, economic and political disturbances have threatened the stability of Balinese communities and culture. From the local perspective of Bali, this posed a threat against the sovereignty of the kingdom of Bali, was still recognized as an autonomous territory. In light of the above issues, this article used an interdisciplinary approach to historiography in analyzing oral history and textual archives. It is hoped to offer a better understanding of how historical Balinese adat and religious values fostered an increase in social resilience and people power when faced with externally generated disturbances.

Abstract

This study is an intellectual exercise applying genealogical history writing. Its scope is neither to write factual truths of the past nor to seek the origin of an event, but to raise an issue of a cultural practice of the present. In the second decade of the XXI century, there are still some people who think, talk, and act on their belief in kawitan, glorified ancestors, and make it an entry point for their political interests. The result of this study is some knowledge which is not only valuable to the historiography of Indonesian history but also to the study of oral traditions. Through this study, it is expected that they both can complement each other, and that the science of history does not need to be awkward to use oral tradition as a source of information and researchers studying oral traditions can use genealogical methods in their research

Abstract

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the economy of Indonesia has weakened and contracted, although currently, the economy has recovered from it. The economy of Bali has experienced its lowest growth of all time. This is due to the huge impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism in Bali, which is its economic locomotive. This research aims to analyze the potential sectors that can be developed by each regency and city in Bali to boost its economic recovery. The research used the LQ and overlay methods. The results of the research show that the sectors directly related to tourism have experienced contraction. Meanwhile, the sector that has progressed considerably and becomes a leading one during the current pandemic is the primary sector. Therefore, the Government of Bali needs to carry out an economic structural transformation, so that the economy will be stabilized and emerge stronger against various internal and external shocks.

Abstract

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic fair trade is thought to be a trading plan that can aid economic recovery. Companies that conduct fair trade schemes, on the other hand, face hurdles as a result of the economic crisis brought on by the pandemic. The East Bali Cashews (EBC) company, which offers fair trade for cashew nuts as a major commodity in Ban village, Karangasem, is highlighted in this study. This study seeks to explain the role of corporation as non-state actor in international trade by adopting a pluralist approach and the concept of fair trade. The study compares the implementation of fair trade by EBC during the COVID-19 pandemic with before the pandemic using a comparative qualitative method with primary data obtained through in-depth interviews. This study is significant in examining the critical role of corporation as primary actor in fair trade schemes that directly affect cashew farmers as small producers. In order to advance the welfare of farmers and cashew as a promising commodity for Ban Village's development.
