Abstract

Inequality is a critical problem to Indonesian economy. Inequality is caused by natural, cultural, and structural factors. Since the beginning, the New Order tends to disregard inequality on economic structure. This article concludes that the problem solving of it should be matched with the cause. It is indeed government has been doing actions, but those actions are partial and charitable, even government tends to use those actions as a politic commodity. This article also concludes that to solve those problems, we should uphold the economic democracy. Idealistically, it can be upheld by maintaining cooperation. But, in fact, cooperation has been disappeared from the principles of Indonesian democracy. At this context, this article evaluates in what ways the government upholds cooperation as a movement of mass economy based on family atmosphere. As you will see, the solving key of this problem is on the restoration of the mass sovereignty as mandated by the constitution.

Abstract

Abstract

AbstractThis paper investigates the effectiveness of fiscal policy in boosting agricultural sector performance and seeks the most effective policy in the presence of regional economic integration. It predicts the effectiveness of fiscal policy on the agricultural sector performance in four periods; the new order regime, the economic crisis, and pre and post China Free Trade Area (CAFTA). It also predicts the impact of fiscal policy on agricultural sector performance when CAFTA is fully implemented. It finds that fiscal policy is more effective in the optimum allocation of expenditures. It also finds that the agricultural sector can grow faster when the portion of capital expenditure increases. Abstract

The major distinctive feature of the Islamic banking as compared to the conventional one lies on the pricing mechanism. The ‘new’ system applies variable pricing mechanism, as reflected on the Profit and Loss Sharing (PLS) system, meanwhile the ‘old’ system applies fixed pricing mechanism, as reflected on the Interest Based (IB) system. Several implications arise from this very basic difference. This paper discusses the implementation of Islamic banking, its socio-economic effect and its role in the development. As a new type of banking system, Islamic banking attracts serious attention from the business players and regulatory authority as well, around the world. The discussion in this paper includes comparison be¬tween these two systems on several instances; the socio-economic effect of the implementa¬tion of Islamic banking; and its role on the (economic) development. In addition the paper also prescribes the direction and the policy required for developing Islamic bank. Keywords: Islamic banking, Profit and Loss Sharing, community welfare

Abstract

This study examines the effect of lending on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) on the profitability of commercial banks in Indonesia. The profitability is measured as Return-on-Assets (ROA) and Return-on-Equity (ROE). It covers the period of 2011 to 2014 using a panel data regression. It finds that MSME loans have a positive impact on ROE. Other internal factors that significantly influence the profitability of banks are MSME’s NPL (non performing loan), the operational efficiency ratio (OER) and loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR), while external factors that significantly influence the profitability of banks are inflation, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth and the Bank Indonesia (BI) rate.
