Abstract

This article aims at discussing the extent of theological significance of Jaringan Islam Liberal (JIL, Islamic Liberal Networks) in Indonesia founded and led by Ulil Abshar Abdalla. This is because theology is the soul of religious adherents? life who intend to work through God?s words in the world. JIL has come as an anti-thesis against Islamic fundamentalism movements, which tend to be rigid, intolerant, and exclusive. The facts can be observed, at least, in such mass organizations as Majelis Mujahidin Indonesia (MMI), Laskar Jihad (LJ), Front Pembela Islam (FPI), Ikhwanul Muslimin Indonesia (IMI), and Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI). The issuance of ?the death fatwa? against Ulil Abshar is a part of textual paradigm held by these mass organizations. To JIL it is important to bring about inclusive and moderate theological understandings. Its mission and agenda, then, are fighting against Islamic fundamentalists? understanding as they are considered obstacles to the advance of Muslim community. Here is the important role of the theology that has to be made as a basis of liberation and freedom for the weak community; then it will be truly meaningful for the weak and poor people.

Abstract

An important point that can be drawn from this is Amina Wadud thinking that he wants to dismantle the old thinking or even myths caused by biased interpreta-tion of the reconstruction methodology patriarchy through his commentary. Because it is not really in line with the basic principles and spirit of the Qur?ân. The Qur?ân actually very fair in the seated men and women. It?s just that this has become distorted by the presence of a biased interpretation of patriarchy, the more reinforced by the political system and society is very patriarchal. While Riffat Hassan argues that religious texts produced scientists and theologians influenced by a proven classic patriarchal culture. This then led to the emergence of theological arguments were dug from the Qur?ân as the primary text of Islam called feminist theology.

Abstract

This study is inspired by the problem of claims against terrorism as an expression of momentary interest, activities program, and products of history constructivism. To solve such problem, the study uses a critical historical analysis approach of Karl Rudolf Bultmann. The study concludes that terrorism, as a part of the wholeness of history, has played critical roles, namely the control role to the tyrannical-dominance and the role of ideology actualization. With the provision of institutionalized historical legacy, terrorism is not merely a temporary expression but it penetrates into borders of period of the history. In addition, with an emphasis on problem solving at the contemporary era, terrorism action is charged to provide a momentary response. Conceptual sources of this study are the view of Ahmad Jainuri about the character of terrorism and the view of Diniesh D?Souza on the profile and the main motive of terrorism. Based on evidences, data, and discussions of experts as well the terror doers themselves, the author argues that the essential meaning of terror?as a compelled action?lays in the fact that it is a noble meaning of historical and ideological aspects as well as a transcendent honor, which cross over the boundary of all conditions or all kinds of worldly reward. Keywords: Terrorism, contemporary, Islam, action.

Abstract

The discourse of ?the Common Word? between us and you have initiated a series of seminars involving world religious institutions. Theological implications of common word become prevalent discussion. Fundamental questions that arise are: ?When both Islam and Christianity claim to have received the revelation of God, then what does that mean that the word of God has become a book? Or transformed into the image of Jesus? ?However, it does not mean that such matters can simply be brought into the realm of theological studies, because it will lead to a polemic and highlight the differences rather than the pure spirit of faith. Theology will only hold us to understand the main doctrines that had been circling around each religious tradition. Therefore, this article, that explores the idea of Waleed el-Ansary, is presented as an effort to understand the ?Word of God? within Islam?s and Christianity?s perspective, so as religious people, we all get the meaningfulness of life or even salvation.

Abstract

This article is an attempt to study the development of epistemology that combines religion and science reasoning in the form of ?theosophical sense?. The goal is to provide the opportunity for religious reason and philosophy of reason to move, to walk, to work according to their capacities and freely without having to specify the amount of the portion in between. But at some point, they interact and complement each other. This study is expected to resolve the problem of the conflict between religion?which is based on religious arguments?and knowledge?which is based on human reason?, because each can meet in a single point of wisdom (meeting between aspects of divinity and humanity). Therefore, it has a humanitarian dimension of religion, as well as the knowledge which has dimensions of divinity.

Abstract

?Abd Allâh al-Haddâd is a prominent figure who has great influence in many parts of the world, including Indonesia. His mystical teachings (tasawwuf), which are sunni, akhlâqî and ?amalî, are oriented to guide morality of the society and, therefore, are more acceptable. A variety of his work, both in the form of books, wird, kasidah, and his Râtib are widely spread and practiced by many people, especially his followers. Al-Haddâd?s mystical orientation also puts emphasis on socio-moral movement. Among his mystical teachings are science, charity, khawf, wara?, and sincerity which are based on al-Qur?ân, the Sunnah of the Prophet, and the example of the pious Salaf. Here, al-Haddâd was able to make renewal in the field of Sufism by reforming the segment and the orientation of the tarekat. If in the past tarekat was only familiar to elites, it then has been converged by al-Haddâd into two different segments, i.e. the tarekat of elite and and the tarekat of public, with the same orientation that is approaching to God. Through this reorientation, al-Haddâd had attempted to present Sufism as a social movement that raise morale both individuals and social groups.

Abstract

This article tries to analyze the phenomenon of Islamist violence in Indonesia due to the appeal between School of theology as was the case in Sampang, Madura. The conflict occurs because the Muslims can no longer recognize the differences between them, so that violence is a means of final settlement. Therefore, in this paper the author will try decoding problems between Sunni?s and Shiite?s School in Indonesia that I could find a way to peace. Because Sunni-Shi?ite actually are brothers who were born on the basis of the spirit of keeping the truth and glorifying the Islam thoroughly in various parts of the world. Abstract

Within this modern era where Islamic doctrines have been more eroded by the advance of scientific development, the power of umma has gradually decreased as a result of abandonment of spirit of jihâd al-nafs. There would be no any other way except to revive the principles and values of Islamic Sufism without leaving rational way of thinking and escaping from social realities. When human recognize their God it would be, then, easier for them to perform everything God commands to them. Where did human come from and where they will go to are among philosophical questions that should be traced by the Sufi. These are foundations for the Sufis to ?recognize their selves?, since by recognizing the self God can be, then, recognized. Tasawuf is a way, which leads to qalb salîm (a pure heart). Many classic books discuss this and the discussion deals with: firstly, efforts to straighten deeds, khushû?, and courtesy of worship; secondly, ways of mujâhadah, self and heart purification, and abolishing madhmûmah (bad manners) and replacing them with mahmûdah (commendable conducts); thirdly, ma?rifat, rabbânîyah, wahbîyah knowledge, dhawq, wijdânîyah, and nature of kashf.
