Abstract

Islamic studies periodically has become more mature than other period before. In western countries, the matter of this study becomes so popular in the scope of religious scholars. In this regard, the fact is that the discourses of Islamic studies are needed to response any problems, challenges that comes ahead. For Islamic studies variety of scientific approach and method develops due to the emerged multiple perspectives, tendency and orientation externalized from each methodologist. This scheme is actually prompted various methodological problems in relation with paradigm, method and phenomenology. This paper is trying to trace and find two pivotal things which become the basic idea of Richard Martin's thoughts. First is about the main description of Richard martin in relation with Islamic studies and second is methodological insight presented by martin in terms of Islamic studies. The keyword of Richard C. Martin’s ideas is “Data Fields”. It plays as a constructive criticism for Islamic Studies. His view maintains the issues on religious studies and the responds of Muslim writers. It also touches the themes of scripture and prophet, ritual and community, religion and society, scholarship and interpretation, challenge and criticism.

Abstract

This study is inspired by the problem of claims against terrorism as an expression of momentary interest, activities program, and products of history constructivism. To solve such problem, the study uses a critical historical analysis approach of Karl Rudolf Bultmann. The study concludes that terrorism, as a part of the wholeness of history, has played critical roles, namely the control role to the tyrannical-dominance and the role of ideology actualization. With the provision of institutionalized historical legacy, terrorism is not merely a temporary expression but it penetrates into borders of period of the history. In addition, with an emphasis on problem solving at the contemporary era, terrorism action is charged to provide a momentary response. Conceptual sources of this study are the view of Ahmad Jainuri about the character of terrorism and the view of Diniesh D?Souza on the profile and the main motive of terrorism. Based on evidences, data, and discussions of experts as well the terror doers themselves, the author argues that the essential meaning of terror?as a compelled action?lays in the fact that it is a noble meaning of historical and ideological aspects as well as a transcendent honor, which cross over the boundary of all conditions or all kinds of worldly reward. Abstract

Sufism is an actualization of the doctrine of Tasawuf about purification of the soul towards God as a form of realization of the Prophet?s hadith on al-i?s?n. Sufism presents three forms of activity, namely the purification of the soul, Sufi behavior, and Sufi movements. Historically, Sufism has featured a distinctive and dialectical character. Classical Sufism features five characters, namely ascetic, practical, asceticism driven by fear of God, the concept of ma?abbah, and the concept of ma?abbah for ma?rifah. Modern Sufism features four characters, namely presentation of shar??ah-based Sufism with no prominent social role any longer, adaptability to modern environments, expression of new political role as a pioneer of the modern nationalist movement, expression of Sufi militancy movement in the late colonial context. Contemporary Sufism presents nine characters, namely Sufism as a variant of transnationalism, the change in the relationship of authority and pattern of association in Sufism, the emphasis of Sufism as a mean of dedication, accommodative attitude towards the new regime, Sufism as the basis of civil society for political mobilization, the development of unique forms of local voluntary associations, the solution-based attitude of Sufism in political archetype, merging of Sufism with the spirit of Salafi and political activism, and the existence of relations of globalization, transnationalism, and hybridity.

Abstract

This study describes the maps and strategies of developing the distribution of zakat, infak, and alms (ZIA) in Jombang regency. To achieve this goal, the study used field qualitative and developmental approaches, and descriptive analysis technique. The zakat mustahik and the distribution target of infak and alms in Jombang are 71,421 pre prosperous families.  supporting factors: (1) the normative basis of the Qur’an and the Hadith; (2) juridical foundation in the form of zakat law; (3) structural support; (4) operational fund guarantee; (5) organizational management system supported by the availability of building, space, and representative work facilities, and its human resources; (6) cooperation network with agencies, companies, and universities in accordance with the needs of the ZIA distribution development program. Inhibiting factors cover: (1) no development of information media available to facilitate communication of ZIA distribution programs; (2) not yet available part of human resources needed according to requirement of distribution development; (3) not yet optimal management function and organizational management as the main strength of ZIA distribution programs.

Abstract

Abstract: The contemporary era of the Islamic world is characterized by a passion for building its own life. This spirit encounters a number of new problems at both internal and external levels. Hence, the variations of Islamic progressive thought and movement emerged to provide solutions to these problems. This variation exhibits its distinctive character and can be shaped into a general pattern of structures composed of five aspects and fourteen components. The ideotheological aspect base consists of the principal sources and joints of Islam and prophethood. The methodological spectrum aspect consists of the legacy of Islamic tradition, law, and methodology. The aspect of ideality concept consists of the concepts of Islam and Muslims and the concepts of comparison of Islam and its treasures. The aspects of action zone consist of behavior, science and technology, politics, and social interaction. The aspects of reality and solutions consist of the reality of Islam and Muslims, the problems of Muslims, and progressive solutions. All these aspects and components move in a hierarchical and circular manner. Hierarchical motion shows the vertical-interactive relation from the highest level to the lowest level. Circular motion shows the referential relation of the lowest level that seeks to trace its sources at the highest level for the fulfillment of progressive solutions with reinterpretative and historical approaches.ملخص: تتميز العصر المعاصر في العالم الإسلامي بشغف لبناء حياته الخاصة. وتواجه هذه الروح عددا من المشاكل الجديدة على الصعيدين الداخلي والخارجي. ومن هنا ظهرت اختلافات الفكر التقدمي الإسلامي والحركة لتقديم حلول لهذه المشاكل. ويظهر هذا الاختلاف طابعه المميز ويمكن أن يتشكل في نمط عام للهياكل المكونة من خمسة جوانب وأربعة عشر مكونا. تتكون قاعدة الجانب الأيديولوجي من المصدر والمفصل الأساسي للإسلام والنبوة. ويتألف جانب المنهجية من تراث التقاليد الإسلامية والقانون والمنهجية. إن مفهوم مفهوم المثالية يتكون من مفاهيم الإسلام والمسلمين ومفاهيم المقارنة بين الإسلام وكنوزه. وتتألف جوانب مناطق العمل من السلوك والعلوم والتكنولوجيا والسياسة والتفاعل الاجتماعي. وتتكون جوانب الواقع والحلول من واقع الإسلام والمسلمين، ومشاكل المسلمين، والحلول التقدمية. كل هذه الجوانب والمكونات تتحرك بطريقة هرمية ودائرية. الحركة الهرمية تظهر العلاقة العمودية التفاعلية من أعلى مستوى إلى أدنى مستوى. الحركة الدائرية تظهر العلاقة المرجعية من أدنى مستوى تحاول تتبع مصادرها على أعلى مستوى لتحقيق الحلول التقدمية بمنهج إعادة التفسير والمنهج التاريخي.Abstrak: Era kontemporer dunia Islam ditandai oleh semangat untuk membangun kehidupannya sendiri. Semangat ini menghadapi sejumlah problem baru pada level internal maupun eksternal. Oleh karena itulah muncul variasi pemikiran dan gerakan progresif dunia Islam untuk memberikan solusi terhadap problem-problem tersebut. Variasi ini memperlihatkan karakter khasnya dan dapat dibentuk ke pola umum struktur yang tersusun atas lima aspek dan empat belas komponen. Aspek basis ideoteologis terdiri atas sumber dan sendi pokok Islam dan kenabian. Aspek spektrum metodologi terdiri atas warisan tradisi Islam, hukum, dan metodologi. Aspek konsep idealitas terdiri atas konsep-konsep tentang Islam dan muslim dan konsep-konsep perbandingan tentang Islam dan khazanahnya. Aspek zona aksi terdiri atas keperilakuan, sains dan teknologi, politik, dan interaksi sosial. Aspek realitas dan solusi terdiri atas realitas Islam dan muslim, problem-problem umat Islam, dan solusi progresif. Semua aspek dan komponen ini bergerak secara hirarkis dan sirkular. Gerak hirarkis menunjukkan relasi vertikal-interaktif dari level tertinggi sampai level terendah. Gerak sirkular menunjukkan relasi referensial dari level terendah yang berusaha untuk melacak sumbernya pada level tertinggi untuk pemenuhan solusi progresif dengan pendekatan reinterpretatif dan historis.

Abstract

Rights of thinking, reproduction rights, and property rights are part of the study of the values of civil society. First, historically, freedom of thought is inspired by the spirit of Islamic teachings, especially the first revelation, iqra'. The influence of iqra' is directly acquired by Muslims themselves, even contributing to the intellectual development of the world. Second, reproductive rights for women have a valid reference from the Qur'an, which must be protected and preserved for future generations. Respecting and safeguarding reproductive rights are the effort to preserve family, community, country, and religion. Thirdly, in Islamic law, property rights receive serious and detailed attention as does the taxonomy of the areas of Islamic law. In the taxonomy, the right of ownership obtains a juridical portion of all fields.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the potential of zakat, infak, and alms (ZIA) and describe the institutional existence of the National Zakat Management Agency (popularly called BAZNAS) of Jombang Regency. To achieve this goal, the study used a qualitative field approach, expose facto, explorative, and descriptive analysis techniques Miles and Huberman. There are three points of conclusion. First, the potential of ZIA funds in Jombang is Rp. 561.943.512,- per month or Rp. 6,743,322,145,- per year. This amount comes from two agencies, namely the Regional Personnel Agency and the Ministry of Religious Jombang Regency. Potential ZIA funds can be explored further from 26 agencies and other companies in Jombang. Second, the existence of BAZNAS Jombang gets national juridical support in the form of legislation about zakat but not yet armed with Local Regulation of Zakat. Its role recently has been limited to internal coordination meetings, external consultations, unit for collecting zakat (UCZ) training, socialization of Zakat Law, and the collection of infak from Muslim government employees at the Government Office of Jombang Regency. Third, the supporting factors: (1) the normative basis of the Qur'an and the Hadith of the Prophet; (2) juridical foundation in the form of Zakat Law; (3) structural support; (4) operational fund guarantee; (5) organizational management system supported by the availability of building, space, and representative work facilities, and its human resources; (6) cooperation network with agencies and companies in accordance with the needs of ZIS fund raising program. Inhibiting factors: (1) there is no Zakat Regulation or other juridical provision for the collection of ZIS in Jombang Regency; (2) not yet available part of human resources needed according to requirement of distribution development; (3) there is no development of information media available to facilitate the communication of ZIS fund raising program; (4) not yet optimal management function and organizational management as the main strength of ZIS distribution programs. This research recommends the development of further research to be more intensive and optimal about the potential of ZIS fund, especially in BAZNAS of Jombang Regency and generally the Zakat Management Institutions (popularly called LAZ) in Jombang Regency.

Abstract

This article discusses a study of the existence of Sufism of the contemporary Islamic preaching of M. Fethullah Gülen. The thought of Gülen’s Islamic preaching originates from his view of Sufism as the spiritual life and the journey of a human life to achieve happiness in this world and hereafter. This thinking evolves and can be accepted by the global community in the contemporary era. This thought disseminates the ideas of love, tolerance, and pluralism and receives attention from over 160 countries. Then, the praxis of the Gülen’s Islamic sufi preaching manifestes into Islamic preaching practices with a methodical system that emphasizes the hizmet movement with the philanthropist and contemporary media tactics. This praxis exists in its role of producing the golden generation progressively, contributing to an increase in the positive image of Islam and Muslims and moral development of the world community.
