Abstract

The sun is the primary source of energy on the earth, but its light sometimes cause thermal discomfort for humans. The thermal engineering started one in the automotive sector in particular car is to install the air conditioner to lower the temperature of the cabin and use the tranfer window film to block sun light intensity. Testing the proper use of window film to determine the effect of inhibition of the ability to transfer the glass clarity of light intensity on the glass needs to be done to determine what percentage inhibition that has the intensity and the lower the cabin temperature, so the thermal comfort is achieved faster. From the results of the testing were conditioned using Solar ray Collector © PHYWE Systeme GmbH CO.KG. Inhibition obtained with 40% glass has an intensity of 39% and a temperature of 63.20 C, the glass has an intensity of 60% inhibition of 21% and a temperature of 61.90 C, the glass has an intensity of 80% inhibition of 8% and a temperature of 63.80 C. So the use of glass with 60% inhibition is best to accelerate the thermal comfort is achieved.

Abstract

Aceh province is geographically located between 20- 60 LU and 950- 980 BT is a tropical region that has a high enough intensity of the sun. Solar energy is a potential energy source, so it needs to consider aspects of the benefits brought about by the sun. This study aims to examine the variation of the solar collector tilt angle to get the collector with optimum results. The material used is wood frame with insulating material zinc in black paint. Temperature measurements carried out in an open space with solar energy as a source of energy for heating. Measurements were taken from 09.00 am - 17.00 pm with measurements every hour. Thermometer was used to measure the temperature, where the measurement is made by 4 (four) points in each space of collector. The results showed that the distribution of the average temperature for the collector tilt angle of 150 C with the air flow rate 0.028 kg/ s is 80 C, the average temperature difference for collector tilt angle of 300 C with the air flow rate 0.0237 kg / s is 170 C, while the average temperature for the collector tilt angle of 450 with the air flow rate 0.0175 kg/ s is 19.50 C.

Abstract

Appliance of Heat Exchanger type 53 EA-1001 exist in company PT. Pupuk Iskandar Muda operate the time some long time is hence formed by coat of fouling, existence of fouling will lessen the hot coefesien transfer totally (U) to a point appliance planning reach the minimum price, this information is obtained to can to schedule for the periodic routine of sweeping as well as commutation of pipe of appliance of heat exchange which is improper used again by prediction is maximum gather  fouling at appliance of Heat Exchanger. Existence of fouling will lessen the final hot coeffesient transfer to a point planning, so that can be scheduled for by a routine treatment. Hot influence Coeffesient transfer totally ( U) to fluid flow speed, resulting height of stream speed. 8640 hour operate for at fouling factor 0,0082 (Rd) yield the volume fouling 0,0066 m3 need the treatment of age Heat Exchanger 27th year of gagging fouling at volume 63,585 m3. Stream emiting a stream is laminar with the value 950 Btu.ft3 / hr.lb.s energy and 1,46 times from missing energy in the situation without there is fouling.

Abstract

Langi is a rural area in Simeulue distric having not yet received electricity by national grid. To enhance daily activity of Langi villager in term oflighting and utilities, local diesel generators used as main power. Increasing fuel cost effect to production cost of diesel generator. Since this type of power source is not viable option economically.This study investigates feasibility of hybrid system to provide electricity in Langi. The hybrid system uses combination of diesel generator, solar panels and wind turbines. Meteorology Agency reports wind speedaverage 3-3.67 m/sec at 10 meters above sea level and daily average radiation about 2.5-4.5 kWh/m2/day. Those data used as initial input to simulated power hybrid system using HOMER software. The simulation results show that appropriate combination applied in Langi is a unit of solar panels 55 kW, 10 unit wind turbines with the capacity 30 kW, 2 unit diesel generators with capacity 110 kW and 30 kW, and a 40 kW inverter. Refer to Langi village electricity demand around 220.807 kWh/year, so electricity producing by the hybrid system able to supply around 399 088 kWh/year.

Abstract

Blood is the fluid found in all living things serve to transmit substances and oxygen needed by body tissues, carrying chemical products of metabolism, as well as the body's defense against viruses or bacteria. If blood will be donated to another person, the blood will be stored in a blood bag and should be used immediately to the recipient blood. If it is not used directly as they are not needed or should be taken to another place, it must be kept comfortable. Because storage temperature greatly affects the quality of the blood and age of stored blood. Blood storage temperature range from 1 oC to 6 oC,  for this reason, it is necessary that both the thermal insulation material storage chamber walls of blood to maintain the desired temperature. Insulation materials used with the value of thermal conductivity (k) is low styrofoam. The purpose of this study was to obtain a blood storage closet systems portable lightweight and easily moveable..

Abstract

Fruit Football is a type of plant that is widely available in Aceh and is not utilized by the community. This research will be studied in experiments of fruit fooball as biofuel in diesel engines. Diesel engines are used in this test is a single cylinder four stroke engine water-cooled Yanmar brand, type TS 50 with specs: Maximum Power 5 HP, maximum rotation 2400 rpm, maximum torque 2.29 kg.m at 1600 rpm and compression ratio 17.9: 1. Performance testing is done with a diesel engine intended to determine the amount of power generated, the level of fuel consumption, specific fuel consumption and thermal efficiency. Testing is done with two variations of biodiesel fuel that B-10 and B-20 as well as diesel fuel for comparison. The results obtained from this study is that the power generated from diesel fuel is greater than the other two fuels, while more efficient fuel consumption B-20 followed by B-10 and diesel fuel. Specific fuel consumption results are varied while the higher thermal efficiencies generated by the B-20 of the B-10 and diesel fuel at high speed.

Abstract

The amount of agricultural lands has been converted into residential land and industrial land since a lot of farmland in the mountains has been opened. Groundwater and river has been used to irrigate the agricultural lands. Farmers in the mountainous areas typically use his physical effort to get water from river to agricultural land. This causes inefficiency of working for farmers thus the agricultural productivity is not optimal. Owing the fact that agricultural land is far from the electricity resources (PLN) therefore a small capital farmer must use pump to irrigate their agricultural lands. Hence, farmers have to spend big amount of money to buy fuel to drive the agricultural pump engine. Thus, it is necessary to have a specific research on the availability of wind energy in order to mobilize the agricultural pump engine in the mountainous area. In this case, the authors have calculated and analyzed the potential of wind energy to drive the pump in the village of Sare, Aceh Besar. From the analysis it has been obtained that the average wind speed of 6,41 m/s with the diameter of rotor turbine about 3 meter result in 1005,26 watt of wind turbine power. This power can be used to power a 20 m head static pump, requiring 650 watt to provide irrigation for 19 hectare of agricultural land 7 hrs/day. HOMER and Epanet 2.2 software are used to conduct simulation for power system generation. The result of HOMER simulation shows the lowest NPC value of US$ 10.028 with the cost of energy (CoE) of USD 0.717 kWh. The system could produce electricity power in a year of 3.452 kWh and the working length of the generating power system is 15 years

Abstract

Lives of traditional salt farmers increasingly concerned about the unfavorable business caused by the difficulty in obtaining fuel. The use of traditional stoves for salt farmers also without a good smoke channel, making smoke pollution that is harmful to health, and also interferes with the farmers and the environment while producing salt. Therefore, it should be considered a solution to address both of these issues by improving the combustion process that occurs in the combustion chamber and by utilizing the exhaust gas heat as a preheater in the salt process. Good combustion requires sufficient air supply with a certain excess air so that the combustion process is perfect. Air supply can be done by utilizing the natural drought affected by the height of the chimney. Utilization of flue gas has been done by creating a configuration flue gases channel through the multiport stove. Testing with chimney height variation needs to be done toget the optimal height so that stove can work with a good performance to produce salt. The results showed that the optimum height of the chimney in the semi-modern salt stove is at a height of 1.55m with a thermal efficiency of 48.6%.

Abstract

The use of flywheel as an energy storing device has been introduced in various mechanical systems. In this paper is discussed the use of it on a stationary bicycle. The flywheel technology is utilised on the bicycle to provide as well as distribute the load in cycling. The focus of the research is the affectivity of the flywheel usage considered from the vibration occurred. In this research, a new model of stationary bicycle is designed to have a reliable and comfortable stationary bicycle. Thus, the vibration caused by the flywheel is one of the concern that an experimental study has been conducted. Based on the experimental test it concluded that the vibration occurred is moderate that the design of the bicycle is acceptable for use.

Abstract

Speed measurement equipment is very essential in a vehicle. The speed measurement equipment engineered in this research is specially designed for the electric vehicle of Mechanical Engineering, Syiah Kuala University, which is equipped with microcontroller of atmega 8353. The sensor system utilized is a dc generator which is connected to the front wheel of the electric car. The rotation of the wheel causes the generator to rotate that the generator produces dc electric voltage that the voltage is sent to the microcontroller. In general there are two main base components used for speed measurement equipment which are hardware and software. The software used to support the programming of the equipment is code vision AVR. The reading of input signal, processing and the visual display are designed with code vision AVR programming and c programming language. The test was conducted at the wheel of the vehicle with several steps of rotation speed to know the speed of the vehicle in rpm and convert it into km/hour by calibrating it based on the wheel diameter. The speed data is displayed on an LCD in real time that the driver knows the real speed.
