Abstract

In the era of Internet technology, new applications are developed everyday requiring continuous and seamless connections. This urges for access availability solutions to the new scenarios. One of the critical architecture is the Mobile Ad-Hoc Network Mobility (MANEMO). However, the integration of Ad-hoc and NEMO technologies came out with many complications like redundant tunnels and the existence of multiple Exit Routers. This paper presents a scheme to discover and select the optimum gateway to improve the robustness and the performance of the network irrespective of the used routing protocol.  The MANEMO Gateway discovery and selection scheme (MGDSS) extends the Tree Discovery Protocol and the Neighborhood Discovery protocol used by NEMO and Ad-Hoc to carry the necessary gateway selection parameters. To compare the effect of network’s size on the performance of the proposed scheme, the standard NEMO BSP and the Multi-homed MANEMO (M-MANEMO) approaches OPNET Modeler 14.5 was used. The results show that the average data packets dropped, the end-to-end delay and the throughput of the proposed MGDSS outperform those for the standard M-MANEMO and standard NEMO BSP.

Abstract

Inclined fatigue cracks can potentially cause severe damage to metallic structures as they affect larger region in the tested structure compared to crack perpendicular to the sample surface. The abilitiy to detect and characterize such cracks is paramount in non-destructive testing (NDT). Pulsed eddy current testing (PEC) is known to offer a broadband of excitation frequencies, which in conjuction with C-scan imaging, may offer discrimination of inclination angles of cracks. Finite element modelling (FEM) was carried out to study the effects of different crack inclination angles, while experimental results were used to verify the FEM results. Selection of both time and frequency domain features for C-scan image construction was also presented, where C-scan images of peak value and amplitude at 200 Hz were shown to be potentially capable in determining different inclination angles. Nevertheless, between these two signal teatures, the amplitude at 200 Hz was found to be more effective in the discriminataion of inclined cracks.

Abstract

Nowadays, there is a growing interest in the smart home system using Internet of Things. One of the important aspect in the smart home system is the security capability which can simply lock and unlock the door or the gate. In this paper, we proposed a face recognition security system using Raspberry Pi which can be connected to the smart home system. Eigenface was used the feature extraction, while Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used as the classifier. The output of face recognition algorithm is then connected to the relay circuit, in which it will lock or unlock the magnetic lock placed at the door. Results showed the effectiveness of our proposed system, in which we obtain around 90% face recognition accuracy. We also proposed a hierarchical image processing approach to reduce the training or testing time while improving the recognition accuracy.

Abstract

The increased usage of World Wide Web leads to increase in network traffic and create a bottleneck over the internet performance.  For most people, the accessing speed or the response time is the most critical factor when using the internet. Reducing response time was done by using web proxy cache technique that storing a copy of pages between client and server sides. If requested pages are cached in the proxy, there is no need to access the server. But, the cache size is limited, so cache replacement algorithms are used to remove pages from the cache when it is full. On the other hand, the conventional algorithms for replacement such as Least Recently Use (LRU), First in First Out (FIFO), Least Frequently Use (LFU), Randomised Policy, etc. may discard essential pages just before use. Furthermore, using conventional algorithms cannot be well optimized since it requires some decision to evict intelligently before a page is replaced. Hence, this paper proposes an integration of Adaptive Weight Ranking Policy (AWRP) with intelligent classifiers (NB-AWRP-DA and J48-AWRP-DA) via dynamic aging factor.  To enhance classifiers power of prediction before integrating them with AWRP, particle swarm optimization (PSO) automated wrapper feature selection methods are used to choose the best subset of features that are relevant and influence classifiers prediction accuracy.   Experimental Result shows that NB-AWRP-DA enhances the performance of web proxy cache across multi proxy datasets by 4.008%,4.087% and 14.022% over LRU, LFU, and FIFO while, J48-AWRP-DA increases HR by 0.483%, 0.563% and 10.497% over LRU, LFU, and FIFO respectively.  Meanwhile, BHR of NB-AWRP-DA rises by 0.9911%,1.008% and 11.5842% over LRU, LFU, and FIFO respectively while 0.0204%, 0.0379% and 10.6136 for LRU, LFU, FIFO respectively using J48-AWRP-DA.

Abstract

Electrical Stimulation is vital for maintaining muscle tone and strength particularly in improving muscle conditions. However, commonly used electrodes for muscle stimulation are flat, solid and have a fixed curvature and therefore cannot conform to the surface of the body. In this paper, a newly developed silver (Ag)- Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) flexible electrode for electrical muscle stimulation was developed. The electrodes were fabricated using screen printing for both single and array designs. The Ag-PDMS composite was developed to allow electrode pattern to be transferred properly on the PDMS substrate because due to same material property.Subsequently, the Ag-PDMS sheet resistance (R) which related to the conductivity of the electrode, was characterized. The R increases each time strain was given to the substrate (0.1cm in each test) with the initial value of 0.7Ω and 75Ω for single and array electrode respectively. To evaluate the functionalities of the electrodes, the Mechanomyogram (MMG) signals were measured by using an equipment called USBamp and a commercial Electrical Muscle Stimulator. Results show that the functionality of the fabricated single electrodes were comparable to the commercial one.

Abstract

Site diversity technique is effective method to overcome rain attenuation, mostly in the tropics where high precipitation is predominant. The method is analyzed based on measurements in two locations separated by 37.36 Km in Malaysia. From concurrent measured rain intensities of two locations at IIUM and UKM for one year, it was found that only ten concurrent events had occurred containing highest rain intensities of 18 mm/h with outage probability of 0.00154% on two locations out of about 381 events experienced over one year period. These findings will be very useful for Earth-to-satellite link designers to improve reliability by applying site diversity as a rain fade mitigation technique at any frequency.

Abstract

Control framework consistent quality depends mostly on the natural and climate conditions which cause flashover on contaminated protectors. Such flashover prompts framework blackouts. Close to the beach front zones the salt pollution can be quickly based on the surface of the shields and frame a directing layer by retaining wet from the fog. This layer at times prompts flashover. Investigation of defilement of separator under marine contamination is the point of this examination, and the impacts of different meteorological elements on the disease seriousness have been researched altogether. In the present paper, an endeavour has been made to gauge the contamination severity under different climate conditions amid the stormy season utilising Artificial Neural Organize. The anomaly determination issue has been considered in this work to take out few exceedingly scattered exploratory information. The connection between ESDD with temperature T, stickiness H, weight P, precipitation R and wind speed WV has been created utilising ANN as a function estimator.

Abstract

In the domains that deal with a large scale image applications force the use of image compression in order to reduce the required storage. Due to the constrained bandwidth and storage capacity in the field of marine a new compression technique for the compression of the satellite images is proposed here. In our system, we are separating the region of Region of Interest (ROI) part from the original image. And this ROI images can be used for compression scheme by an algorithm known as the Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT) algorithm. The SPIHT algorithm is a part of the Lossless compression algorithm. The performance of our method can be done by calculating the PSNR values of the output images.

Abstract

In all the fields that make use of the images in a large scale for the image applications there is need for the image compression process in order to minimize the size of the storage. Likewise in the marine field there is use of the images like satellite images for their communication purpose. So to make use of them we are proposing a new image compression technique for the compression of the satellite images by using the Region of Interest (ROI)based on the lossy image technique called the Embedded Zero-Tree Wavelet (EZW) algorithm for the compression. The performance of our method can be evaluated and analyzing the PSNR values of the output images.
