Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisa pengaruh lama perendaman dalam larutan pengawet tembaga sulfat dan bidang permukaan samping yang terekspos terhadap nilai retensi tembaga sulfat pada kayu Pinus radiata D. Donn yang dikeringkan dengan oven. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai retensi tembaga sulfat dipengaruhi dengan sangat nyata oleh faktor waktu rendam dan bidang permukaan samping contoh uji yang terekspos selama proses rendaman. Nilai retensi tembaga sulfat tertinggi (91,10 kg/m3) dihasilkan melalui proses rendaman selama 1800 detik (30 menit) dengan bidang permukaan samping contoh uji yang terekspos adalah tangensial atas. Perendaman selama 10 detik dengan membiarkan permukaan samping radial contoh uji yang terekspos menghasilkan nilai retensi tembaga sulfat terendah (6,26 kg/m3).

Abstract

Log  skidding  activities  using  tractors  usually  caused  high  residual stand  damages.  To reduce the residual stand damages, the factors  influencing them must be identified. A study was carried out at two forest  concessions in Riau in  1995. The aims of the study are :  1) to find  the level  of  residual  stand  damages  caused  by felling  ang skidding,  2) to  identifY   the  factors influancing the  residual  stand  damages  and  3) to find  the way of  reducing  residual stand damages.Data collected  were the number  of  felled  tress,  trees with diameter  20 cm and  up and damaged trees.  The data was analysed by using the multiple regression.The results of the study show : 1)  The average of residual stand damages caused by fellingis 11.5 %; 2) The average of residual stand damages caused by skidding  is 15.4  %; and 3) The influence of the number of felled  tress, stand density and the slope were highly  significant to residual stand damages.Knowing the factors  influencing  the residual stand damages, ones should be easy to find the way of reducing  that damages.Key words :   felling, skidding, felled trees, residual  stand damage

Abstract

Heterobostrychus aequalis  Wat is very  important   wood  destroying   insect  other  than  termites.  In  this experiment pulai  wood  samples  (Alstonia  scholaris  R.Br)  taken  from  above  and  under  a girdle  of  cut  around  tree stem  were dried at temperature   40˚C,  60˚C,  90°C,   100°c,    120°c,    150°C, 200°c    and  air  temperature.   On  each  side  of  the  samples  of 1,5  cm  x  5  cm  x  7 cm.  Into   in  dimension   ten  holes  were  made  the  hole  larvaes of  1,5  month   old  were  placed.   The observations  were  made after  six  week  period.Wood dried at  temperature  40°C  had the lowest starch content  i.e 13,40  % for wood  samples  the girdle and 11,15  % for  wood  samples  under  the  girdle,  white   the  intensity   of  insect's  attack   can  be  rated  os moderate   (with  score  67,25 and  65,75).

Abstract

The  purpose   of  this  research  is to  compare   the  phvsico-chemical    properties   of  cananga oil from  Blitar,  Boyolali, and  Cirebon  with  the  Indonesian   Insutrial  Standard   requirement.   Cananga oils are obtained   from  the  distiller  in Blitar and  Boyolali   regencies.  The  distilling   method   used  in these  regencies are cohobations.   The distilling  time  was 40  hours in Blitar  and 36  hours  in Boyolali,  whereas,  cananga oil properties   from  Cirebon  was based on the literature.   To find  out the difference   in properties,   the student's t-test   was applied.The  results   indicated   that   colour   (visual),   specific  gravity,   refractive   index,   ester  number,  and  ester  content   of cananga  oils  from   Blitar,  Boyolali,  and  Cirebon  have  met  Indonesian   Industrial  Standard  requirement   (Sll.  0026  -   73), except   for  the ester  number  and ester content   of  cananga oil from  Boyolali.  Based on the ester number,  cananga oil from Cirebon  had  a  better  quality   than  that  of  Blitar or Boyolali.  Cananga oil from  Boyolali  had  the  lowest  quality.  Crushing cananga  flowers   before   distilling,  decreased   the  ester  number,   ester  content,   and  yield   of  the  resulting  oil.   Therefore, the crushing of raw of  the cananga flowers prior  to processing  was found   unnecessary.

Abstract

This  study   investigated   termite survival  and  infestation   intensity    on  coconut   wood.  For  this purpose dry  wood termite  Cryptotermes  cynocephalus Light. has been  used  in the  experiment.   Fifteen   worker  termites   were placed  in the wood  coconut  samples.  The size  of  each sample  is 1,5 cm  by 2,5 cm  by  5,0  cm. Samples  were taken  from  the periphery and  center  of  base of  stem,   the  periphery   and  center  of  middle  of  stem  and  the periphery   and center of  top  of  stem .The result revealed that  the highest dry wood  termite  survival accured  at the central part  of the top of stem  (37,3%), where  as the highest  infestation intensity accured  at  the  base of  the stem.

Abstract

In general, there are three basic  types/methods  of  chain saw operator's body position  in doing mechanical tree felling in natural forest i.e; felling with squat, felling with standing in deeply bending forward and standing while both arms in extreme position  in the soulder joint.  However, the body Position of chain saw operator in high buttress tree felling are usually in standing while both arms in extreme position in the shoulder joint.The extreme  body position  above does not  only  generate static  muscular load  cauaing early fatique and  pain in the shoulder joint  (Hagberg, et al,  1987) but also cause physiological load during work (Ayaz,.1987).   For this matter, a  study   was conducted  for  the  improvement  of  worker's productivity  and  workstress by introducing a new methbd of body position's felling technique.The investigation took place at Central Kalimantan in 1989. The results of this research as follows:1.From faal variable point of view, the chain saw operator's workstress during work is higher than the limited works-tress level recommended by international medical opinion.2.New  felling technique applied on  high buttress tree of  150 to 300 cm can reduse workstress rate about 3-8 beats/min.  While, if  it  is  applied on high buttress tree of > 300 cm causes the operator chain saw's workstres about 1-4  beats/min lower than operator chain saw's workstress. in felling of tree with conventional method.3.Productivity rote with new felling method applied on buttrea  high of 150 cm -  300 cm and > 300 cm are about 19.298rm3/hr and 18.207  m3/hr. The productivity rate with conventional method applied on high buttress of 15’0 cm -300  and> 300 cm are 22.974 m3/hr and 24.974 m.3/hr.4.Altliough the use of new method  on high buttrea  tree felling causes negative effect in work productivity  but in fact it can increasethe forest wood utilization.about  2.63% -4.27%.

Abstract

Penelitian papan gipsum yang dibuat dari partikel kayu meranti (Shorea sp) dengan variasi berat partikel 300 g, 400 g dan 500 g telah dilakukan.Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa nilai rata-rata kadar air papan gipsum 15,56-16,18%, kerapatan 0,80-1,02 g/cm3, pengembangan tebal 1,51-2,32%, modulus patah 16,28-43,98kg/cm2. Berat partikel tidak berpengaruh terhadap pengembangan tebal, tetapi berpengaruh nyata terhadap kadar air dan kerapatan dan berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap modulus patah. Sifat pengembangan tebal papan memenuhi persyaratan standar Jerman sedangkan kerapatan dan modulus patah tidak memenuhi persyaratan tersebut.

Abstract

Hardboard dapat dibuat dari berbagai macam bahan serat berligno-selulosa. Di Indonesia dewasa ini ketersediaan bahan baku serat konvensional (khususnya kayu hutan alam tropis) untuk hardboard semakin terbatas dan langka, sedangkan produksi domestik hardboard belum dapat memenuhi kebutuhan yang ada. Bahan baku serat alternatif  yang potensinya berlimpah dan belum banyak dimanfaatkan perlu diperkenalkan, diantaranya bambu. Penelitian pemanfaatan bambu sebagai bahan baku pembuatan hardboard telah dilakukan dengan memanfaatkan dua jenis bambu yaitu bambu tali (Gigantochloa apus) dan bambu ampel (Bambusa vulgaris). Masing-masing jenis bambu diolah menjadi pulp dengan proses semi-kimia soda panas terbuka.  Hardboard dibuat dengan 5 proporsi campuran pulp bambu tali + bambu ampel yaitu 100%+0%, 75%+25%, 50%+50%, 25%+75%, dan 0%+100%. Tiap proporsi ditambahkan perekat tanin-esorsinol-formaldehida (TRF) sebesar 0%, 6% and 8% dari berat kering pulp. Lembaran hardboard dibentuk dengan cara basah lalu diuji sifat fisis dan mekanisnya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penambahan TRF hingga 8% meningkatkan sifat fisis dan mekanis hardboard. Hardboard dari serat pulp bambu ampel 100% memiliki kualitas tertinggi karena sifatnya banyak memenuhi persyaratan JIS dan ISO untuk kerapatan, modulus elastisitas lentur (MOE), modulus patah (MOR) dan keteguhan rekat internal (IB). Sementara itu, hardboard dari serat bambu tali 100% memiliki kualitas terendah. Performa hardboard dari campuran pulp bambu tali + bambu ampel pada proporsi 50%+50% dan 25%+75% memiliki tingkatan kualitas pada urutan kedua dan ketiga. Papan serat bambu tali yang berkualitas rendah diharapkan dapat diperbaiki melalui penambahan perekat TRF.

Abstract

log extraction in undulating forest areas needs special attention. Forest Products Research Centre has made improvement on P3HH20 skyline system designed for extracting log on undulating area. The equipment consists of three main parts such as power machine unit, wire rope and its auxillary and carriage intended to guide log movement. At the first time, the capacity of the equipment was only 0.308 m3/round trip. In 1998, the equipment was improved and then in 1999 was tried to extract logs in forest plantation of PT Inhutani II. Pulau Laut. South Kalimantan. The choice of the location was done purposively. The objective is to prove whether the impoved P3HH20 skyline system is suitable for extracting log in plantation forest area having undulating terrain. The research results showed that:1. The use of improved P3HH20 skyline cable system for log extraction in plantation forest Pulau Laut provides promising suitability with still relatively low productivity,2. log diameter extracted ranged from 17 to 43 cm with an average of 23 cm while log length extracted ranged from 8 m to 12 m with an average of 11 m.3. log volume extracted varied from 0.026 to 0.309 m3/round trip with an average of 0.160 m3/round trip.4. Effective log extraction productivities ranged from 1.404 to 2.810 m3 (hour with an average of 1.980 m3/hour while the total log extraction productivities varied from 0.485 to 1.080 m3/hour with an average of 0.885 m/hour.5. The average of log extraction cost was Rp 23.572/m3.6. To increase log extraction productivity. it is suggested that further improvement on ballast and endless cable need to be done. as well as further trial infield operations.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the energy consumption from PLN (state electric company) electricity, diesel fuel and wood waste per m³ production of several products of wood industries. The products included in the study are plywood, jointing board, matches and chopstick, wood working, housing component, particleboard, picture frame and sawntimber.The study revealed that energy consumption from PLN electricity per m³ productions for plywood was 149.51 kwh, jointing board was 152.29 kw, sawntimber ranged from 34.25 to 55.87 kwh and wood working was 178.11 kwh. The consumption of diesel fuel for plywood was 50.97 liters, and sawntimber was 14.23 liters. The biomass energy consumption per m³ productions for picture frame was 0.08 m3 which gave the lowest figure while the highest was for jointing-board, namely, 0.604 m³. The share of biomass energy per m3 productions was 82 % of the total energy consumption.
