In Indonesia, decentralisation has emerged in the name of democratisation over the last decades. Decentralisation, politically, has significantly shaped the relationship between the central and local governments. Therefore, many have believed that the decentralisation is equivalent to the democratisation process. In this article, we attempt to answer these questions: (1) is the decentralisation compatible with consolidated democratisation in Indonesia? (2) How is “the rule by people†implemented for the sake of democracy; in other words, how local people fill these spaces? In this article, we argue that there has been a connection between democratisation process and decentralisation. However, the relationship seems to be superficial.

This article examines the political system ever undertaken by the Prophet Muhammad especially when he was in Medina. The study finds out that the hadith texts show that the political practices of the Prophet indicated that he not only became the spiritual leader of the Muslims community, but also the leader of the state who made the syûrâ as a system in determining the direction of the government of Madinah. The syûrâ system not only offers a political system but also becomes the basis of ethics in politics so that politicians can improvise in exercising power without violating Islamic ethics. Islam does not set certain systems to be embraced by a predominantly Muslim country, although the term syûrâ is contained in the Qur'an and Hadith, but the most important thing is the substance of the syûrâ that should be the system for every country, especially in Indonesia.

As a new form of warfare, proxy war does not require arm contacts to invade a country. Through conspiracy, propaganda and the establishment, a country may be ravaged by other more powerful countries. As a developing country with abundant natural and human resources, Indonesia becomes an easy target for super power countries to launch their proxy wars. Therefore anticipatory measures to stem the dangers of a proxy war are needed. This study used a qualitative approach through interviews. The conclusions of this study are: (1) the perceptions ofthe East Java’s PTKIN students on the issue of proxy war. First, in terms of its notion, there are four perceptions about proxy war. Two of them do not have compatibility with the theory of proxy war. Second, the perception of the dangers of proxy war in which there are two perceptions: 1) that the proxy war is absolutely very dangerous and 2) that it cannot be justified simply to be dangerous or not before its victims arise. Third, in the constellation of proxy war, Indonesia has been for a long time in its vortex as Indonesia is a country with abundant natural and human resources.

Mangkunegaran in early establishment initially had a capacity and authority armed with forces and territory, which currently only deemed as one of the cultural guardian institution even more physically interpreted as a cultural heritage object. The inability of Mangkunegaran to dampen the Anti-Swapraja Movement is actually the beginning for waning power politics in Mangkunegaran in the royal system with the doctrine of keagungbinataraan. Declarations to declaration issued by KGPAA Mangkunegara VIII to face the Anti Swapraja movement was compeletely ignored by the society. In traditional Javanese life, it is signed by oncate (the loss of) wahyu kedhaton of Mangkunegaran. In the end the Swapraja Region in Surakarta was revoked, Mangkunegaran has no authority as the center of government.
