Abstract

This research focuses on developing and validating a digital flipbook designed to enhance reading comprehension for sixth-grade students in inclusive classrooms, particularly those with special needs, such as students who are deaf or mute. Utilizing the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model, the study addresses the challenges faced by inclusive students in accessing reading media as material by incorporating accessibility features like sign language, subtitles, visuals, and animations. The research employed various instruments, such as a guide for interviews aimed at assessing needs, a separate interview guide for educators, another for students, a journal maintained by the researcher, a tracking sheet for product development progress, evaluations by content experts, assessments by media experts, and a questionnaire evaluating practicality. The digital flipbook was evaluated by content experts who rated it 4.75 out of 5, and media design experts who scored it 4.60 out of 5, both indicating a "very good" category. Additionally, the practicality of the digital flipbook was assessed by students and teachers, yielding scores of 4.6875 and 4.625, respectively, falling into the "very good" category. The study concludes that the digital flipbook is an effective media for enhancing the reading comprehension of inclusive students. It is user-friendly, engaging, and effectively improves comprehension. Given its high level of validity and practicality, the digital flipbook can serve as a model for other inclusive learning environments and has the potential to enhance the quality of inclusive education in Indonesia.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the implementation of Citizenship Education through the Teba Modern movement in Desa Adat Cemenggaon as a means of strengthening citizens’ ecological awareness. This research employs a qualitative approach using ethnographic methods, conducted through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis of customary regulations (awig-awig and perarem) related to village-based waste management. The findings reveal that the revitalization of the Teba Modern concept plays a significant role in developing a waste management system grounded in local wisdom by integrating a social ecology approach and the principle of harmony within Hindu cosmology, particularly the balance between Bhuana Agung and Bhuana Alit. The success of this initiative is supported by synergistic collaboration between the customary village government, the community, and local stakeholders, as well as the effectiveness of customary regulations that possess strong social and spiritual binding power. The implementation of Teba Modern contributes positively to environmental sustainability, social cohesion, and the internalization of spiritual values in ecological citizenship practices. This concept has strong potential to serve as a sustainable waste management model for other indigenous villages.

Abstract

The rapid integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in education has positioned AI not merely as a technological tool, but increasingly as a cognitive prosthesis that extends learners’ cognitive capacities. While AI-driven systems offer substantial benefits—such as personalized learning, scaffolding, enhanced metacognitive regulation, and instructional efficiency—concerns persist regarding cognitive offloading, diminished critical thinking, reduced intellectual autonomy, and ethical risks. This study aims to critically examine the dual role of generative AI as a cognitive prosthesis in learning by synthesizing recent empirical and theoretical literature. Employing a systematic literature review methodology, this study analyzes peer-reviewed articles and proceedings indexed in Scopus and Copernicus published between 2015 and 2025. The reviewed studies are organized into two thematic domains: (1) the advantages and limitations of generative AI as a cognitive prosthesis in learning, and (2) the evolving roles of teachers and students in AI-mediated educational environments. The findings indicate that while generative AI can enhance metacognitive skills, creativity, learning efficiency, and personalized instruction, excessive dependence may lead to cognitive laziness, surface learning, weakened critical thinking, and ethical challenges related to data privacy and academic integrity. The study concludes that generative AI should be positioned as a supportive cognitive partner rather than a replacement for human cognition. Effective integration requires strong pedagogical design, ethical governance, and active mediation by educators to ensure that AI enhances learning without undermining intellectual autonomy.
