Abstract

Relation of meaning constitutes as semantic relation based on the relationship of one lexem to the others. This relation covers various meaningful relations. In this article the writer tries to highlight that relation of specifically synonymy, antonymy, and hyponymy. Those relation of meanings are generated on their definitions and complications.

Abstract

Sebagai makhluk sosial, manusia membutuhkan bahasa sebagai alat komunikasi. Komunikasi antaranggota masyarakat menjadi salah satu perekat untuk mempertahankan komunitasnya. Komunikasi yang baik akan menciptakan hubungan yang baik pula. Oleh sebab itu, dalam berkomunikasi seseorang dituntut untuk mematuhi kaidah yang berlaku dalam masyarakat. Kaidah tersebut terkait dengan aturan-aturan  dalam memilih kata-kata, yang kemudian dikenal dengan istilah kaidah diksi. Kaidah diksi dalam komunikasi sehari-hari berbanding lurus dengan kaidah diksi atau aturan-aturan komunikasi dalam ayat-ayat Alquran. Sebagai contoh, Qaulan Ma’rufa (QS. Al-Baqarah: 235; QS. Abstract

Idiom is a number of words which are joined together means iri.something different from the meaning of the words when they stand alone. In order to reproduce the closest natural equivalent in terms of the source context, a translator normally attempts to make adjustments in idioms due to a literal translation of idioms into another language will not make sense.This paper is mainly aimed at finding out how a translator can translate and discover the natural equivalent of English idiomatic expression. The findings show that there are two types of adjustments that are used in translating the idioms. First, by non figurative expression equivalent and second, by figurative expression equivalent.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas Voice Onset Time (VOT) bunyi hambat bahasa Madura dan dikomparasikan dengan bunyi hambat bahasa Inggris. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengetahui apakah kedua bahasa tersebut memiliki konfigurasi VOT yang sama mengingat baik bahasa Madura maupun bahasa Inggris memiliki konsonan letup beraspirasi tak bersuara.

Abstract

Friday prayer is indeed a very important weekly occasion because it involves a large section of the Muslim community regardless of their social standing. The sermon (khutbah) is the opportunity to deliver the essential message of Islamand to remind the congregation of their mistakes and shortcomings. Only a right person is appointed for the job. The study used CDA approach by Norman Fairclough. The data taken from youtube that broadcast Friday Khutbah in English. From the study, it is found that in delivering his khutbah, the khatib cited the ayah from the Holy Quran, of course, in Arabic language, to make better understanding. It can be used to convince the jamaah that the khutbah really agree with the content of the Holy book Al Quran, the most comprehensive source book for Muslim. Besides, it was not only the jamaah who should follow the instruction of the khutbah but all people include the khatib, that is why the khatib used the personal pronoun ‘we’ instead of ‘you’ which refers only to the jamaah. Though the khatib has powerful in term of religious knowledge, he did not place himself over the jamaah.

Abstract

Character and conflict are the important elements in a play. Conflict is dominant aspect in this play. The structure of this play is best seen through a series of confrontation between Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski. The conflict is social conflict. Blanche DuBois comes from aristocracy family, and Stanley Kowalski comes from lower class. The factors of the conflict are the background and character. The background differences are heritage, wealth, and education. The character differences can be traced from astrological aspect, color preference and light avoidance. The conflict between Blanche and Stanley is caused by their different worlds.

Abstract

Bagaimana penderitaan yang dialami buruh akibat diterapkannya kapitalisme? dan bagaimana industrial democracy melepaskan mereka dari penderitaan hingga menciptakan human freedom? adalah dua pertanyaan yang diajukan untuk analisis play dengan judul Dr. Jonathan karya Winston Churchill. Melalui medium play ini, message yang disampaikan oleh playwright yang merupakan jawaban atas kedua pertanyaan tersebut dielaborasikan pada studi ini dengan menganalisis primary dan secondary texts. Keduanya adalah medium utama play untuk informasi yang diakses oleh pembaca. Dengan descriptive research, informasi linguistik dan non linguistik dianalisis dan dielaborasikan sesuai dengan data yang ada pada sumbernya dan tidak ada rekayasa tentang data yang dianalisis. Dari sentuhan kreatif  playwright, kapitalisme yang menimbulkan penderitaan bagi buruh dan jurang pemisah antara si kaya dan si miskin dapat digantikan dengan prinsip baru, yakni industrial democracy yang menjunjung tinggi nilai-nilai kemanusiaan. Itulah informasi yang didapat pada analisis play Dr. Jonathan karya Winston Churchill pada studi ini sebagai hasil analisis berdasarkan beberapa element information flow, yakni amount of detail information, transmission of information, dan perspective.

Abstract

Novice translators in Madura are mostly less in translation competence since they only work as translators for tentative activity. They do not acknowledge that a translator is one of professions which involve multi competences. Translation training model which is done by translators in Madura tends to transfer only the structure of the Source Text into the Target Text. Translation process and translation strategy are not acknowledged  as one of important aspects in translation training. Therefore, to be a professional translator, they have to master in accuracy, equivalent and faithfulness between Source Text and the Target Text in translation activity.
