Abstract

This study examined the effect of foreign board members in promoting corporate governance and performance. This study used the fixed effect model from the panel data of 4,282 company-observations over the period of 2007-2017. This study found that the presence of foreign board has a significant and positive effect on the company’s performance measured by return on asset and return on equity ratios. On the other hand, the presence of Asian nationality board member was found to have negative significant effect on the company’s performance, and this is due to the companies having Asian Board members coming mostly from developing countries. In general, this research show that the presence of a foreign board member can bring differences to the companies and this affects their performance. This means that companies in Indonesia need to increase the number of foreign board of commissioners from outside Asian countries in order to increase their profitability.

Abstract

This study aims at determining the potential economic growth zones: Banda Aceh city, Sabang, and Aceh Besar regencies in Aceh province. The economic structure concerns regional and interregional specialization in the period of 2000 to 2006. This study combines two research approaches both qualitative and quantitative e.g., shift-share and regional specialization. The data used are in the form of secondary data and are taken from the Central Beauro of Statistics and Regional Government Board at the province and regencies or cities. The results of the shift-share analysis are on regional growth average of the three areas. They are positive with the highest value of Aceh Besar regency and the lowest at Sabang. For the real impact of regional economic growth, the shift-share value is positive during the observation period. Specialization index calculation results indicate a decrease in the average value of specialization indexes between regencies and cities in this region, namely from 0.065 to 0.478 in 2000 to 0.413 in 2006. Among the areas within the region it should take advantage of the excellent potential sectors in the region when trading among the three regions that have the strength in different commodities.

Abstract

Since it was established in 2003 until 2014, the “MP” bank had never provided its human resources development training. As a result, it decreased its employees’ performance which ultimately gave a bad impact on the bank. This was a serious concern for the management in 2015. This study aimed to determine and analyze the impact of knowledge management variables consisting of socialization, externalization, combination, and Internalisation on the employees performance indirectly through their competence. The path analysis was used to determine the indirect impact of knowledge management on the wmployess’ performance, with the  samples of 140 people. The data analysis and hypothesis testing proved that knowledge management had significant effect on the employees performance indirectly through the employees competence. The R-square of socialization, externalization, combination, and internalisation of the employees competence were 70.5%; and the R-square of competence variable to the performance was 52%. This showed that knowledge management played an important role in improving the employees performance through their competence. It implies that the bank needs to provide in-house training for its employees resource development because only relying on the quality the employees get from the college was not enough

Abstract

Previous studies only focused on antecedent factors of transfer of training and only a few of them focused on the consequence factors. The main objectives of this research were to examine the antecedents and consequence of transfer of training. The antecedent factors consist of individual characteristics, training design, and organizational environment. The consequence factor is individual performance. Since the previous studies used transfer of training as unidimensional construct, this research used multidimensional construct consist of knowledge sharing, training retention and training generalization. Survey with questionnaire is used as design research method. The respondents are employee who worked in state-owned hospitals (N=202). Multiple regressions was used to examine the hypothesis. The result showed that individual performance was determined by training transfer consists of three factors such as knowledge sharing, training retention, and training generalization. Training of transfer itself was determined by some factors such as individual characteristics (i.e. self-efficacy and learning orientation), training design (trainer and training material), and organizational environment (organizational support, supervisor support and peer support). Specific for organizational support, it’s only had significant effect on training retention but not on knowledge sharing and training generalization. Since transfer of training has important effect on individual performance, organization must consider the three antecedent factors.
