Abstract

This study aims to know and describe social stratification elements that  found in the Novel” Gadis Kretek” by Ratih Kumala. The study can be a valuable lesson in daily life. This study used qualitative method. The result shows that in Novel” Gadis Kretek” by Ratih Kumala discovered  values, social life in society, and the existence of status dissimilarity from high class to low class that caused social stratification  system of status  distinction in society. Classification of social society level viewed from dimension of wealth, power, honorary, and knowledge resulted in economy field competition.

Abstract

This study aims to know students’ reading comprehension using SQ3R Method for the third semester students of Indonesia Language and literature education major of STKIP Muhammadiyah Pringsewu Lampung. The research sample was 40 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used triangulation tehcnique ( observation, interview, and documentation), and test technique. Validity test data used triangulation technique by checking the data in the same resource. In analysing the data, the researcher employed data triangulation (reducing the data, dicplaying the data, and verifying). The research procedure was implemented in four steps: plan, action, reflection,and evaluation. This study was done in two cycles. The result shows that SQ3R method can improve students’ reading comprehension. In the first cycle, 16 students or 40% students were not  pass in reading comprehension. Then students’reading comprehension was improved 100% in the second cycle.

Abstract

The thesis is entitled” The Lexical Innovation of Javanese in Pringsewu Regency Lampung: A Geolinguistics Study”. The research method used in this thesis is descriptive method. The method and technique of data gathering used is observation method, interview thecnique, and recording technique respectively. This research is carried out in 10 village from districts of Pringsewu Regency. The result of research shows that innovations are found, innovation include phonetic innovation, morphological innovation and lexical innovation. The phonetic innovation is raised as much as 50 words found 111 variants. The vocal form with the greatest number. Beside that, it also found the addition of replacement consonant, vocal, and indonesian loan word. The research showed 19 loan word.  In morfolofical found prefiks, sufiks, and reduplication word. 9 word raised in lexical innovation. Based of the map innovation happened at the same districts.

Abstract

This paper is determine representation about culture in the Hujan Bulan Juni novel by Sapardi Djoko Damono. This paper based in the issue that comes from the novel related to the chracteristic of Javanese and Manado culture. The aim of this paper is to describe culture representation that shows by the concept of this novel. This explanation based on the theory about Javanese people’s characteristic from Geertz, Manado people’s characteristic from Sumampow and concept culuture identity from Hall and Woodward. The result of  the analysis shows that the novel displays the cultural characteristics of Java wich is different for each character. The ‘ethok-ethok’ (pretend), ‘wedi’(afraid),’ isin’(shame), dan ‘sungkan’ attitude displayed by the character that has the constancy of identity. While being open, straight foward and aggressive attitude. While Manado characters are represented through characters steady by showing agrressive attitude, overt, brave, culinary practice, character name and Christianity. Different cultural characteristics to each person indicate the liquid identity.

Abstract

This research described Sundanese identity on “Abah jeung Laptop” by Hikmat Nugraha. The research analised narrative struckture and setting on the short story. This study aimed to describe how the representasion of Sundanese identity on contemporary literature. This research used qualitative method and literature study for collecting the data. In analyzing the data, the researcher used narrative struckture method by Mieke Bal to describe how narrator and fokalisator on the short story affected how Sundanese identity be representasion on this story. The analysis showed the representasion of Sundanese identityon the actors on story changed because of modernize. The struggle which representing by the actors showed how shifting of identities was very difficult but identities always changed because of history and cultures change.

Abstract

This study was conducted to assess various languages trader deals in Pangandaran Beach in terms of perspektik sociolinguistics. The aim of research to find out the deals utterances used by hawkers at Pangandaran Beach, knowing offers a variety of language used by hawkers at Pangandaran Beach, and knowing use of vocabulary that deals used by hawkers at Pangandaran Beach. This study used a qualitative approach. The method used in this research is descriptive and analytical. The data used in this research is data in the form of a variety of language associated with language diversity offers Pangandaran beach hawkers. The results of the study deals buying and selling a variety of language, which is rarely done because of language preservation demands an understanding of the other person.

Abstract

This research is study of speech act  in conversation of event wedding proposal of Komering, Lampung society. This study focused on directive Speech Act. The primery data was video of wedding proposal  of Komering, Lampung society. Then the secondary data was archieves book wedding proposal  of Komering, Lampung society.  This study described directive speech act which used by the speaker. The result obtains four directive speech act which were expressed in wedding proposal ceremony in Komering, Lampung society. Those are directive speech act of demands, expectations, advice, and orders.

Abstract

Interest in writing in general is still low. If we compare the number of journals in Indonesia with Malaysia and Thailand still lack . The low of students ability in scientific writing them due to lack of interest in reading and low mastery of vocabulary. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of the interest in reading writing skills, vocabulary mastery of the skill of writing and reading, and vocabulary mastery together against this writing. The study  using quantitative methods, with the prerequisite test of normality, linearity and homogeneity. The results showed that: 1) there is no influence interest in reading the writing skills of exposition, 2) There is a significant relationship between vocabulary mastery of the writing skills, and 3) there are significant interest in reading and mastery of vocabulary jointly affect the writing skills exposition

Abstract

This research described characters parody in the novel Janda dari Jirah by Cok Savitri. Parodi appears indicating that the glorification of Calon Arang. This research method uses descriptive analytical with the theory of parody as part of intertextuality. Parody which appears also associated with feminine and masculine leadership style defined by Parker. This study shows that there is a glorification through figures and depictions of feminine leadership style Candidate Arang.
