Abstract

National Park is a nature conservation area, in management there are many threats that can damage or reduce the national park area. One such threat is forest fires and land. Forest fires in Tesso Nilo National Parks (TNTN) generally caused by land clearing. Mechanisms for resolving problems of forest and land fires that occurred in TNTN at comprehensive, one application of the policy. Given the function of the National Park as a life support system protection, preservation of biological diversity, sustainable use of natural resources and ecosystems. The purpose of this study was to determine people's knowledge of government policy in the management of land and forest fire disasters. Methods of data collection by way of documentation, interviews and questionnaires. Sampling using purposive sampling method and quoted sampling Number of samples this study of 38 people with the details, two (2) persons Hall TNTN, 4 (four) NGO,       2 (two) Forest Service Pelalawan, and 30 community living TNTN around. The data obtained, processed using techniques percentage and compiled into the form of tables, so it can be deduced. The results showed Lubuk Kembang Bunga Village, Air Hitam Village and Bagan Limau Village generally do not know about the existence of government policy in the handling of forest fires and land applied in TNTN. Abstract

Coppicesof Eucalyptus pellita have the potential to produce seeds, so it takes a vegetative plant propagation by cuttings to meet the supply of seed planting. One of the factors that affect success rate of cuttings is the content of plant growth regulator (PGR) as Naphthalene Acetic Acid (NAA) from the category of auxin. This research aim to determine effect and exact concentration of PGR containing active NAA toward the growth of coppice cuttings. This research used a completely randomized design (CRD), which consists of 4 treatment (P0 = Without PGR containing active NAA; P1 = PGR containing active NAA 25%; P2 = PGR containing active NAA 50%; P3 = PGR containing activeNAA 75%), with 3 replications and 10 cuttings each. The results were analyzed using variance and if it is distinctively different it will be continued with Duncan  New's Multiple Range Test on the level of 5%. The results showed that giving plant growth regulator containing active NAA not significantly yet toward the growth of Eucalyptus pellita coppice cuttings. Giving PGR containing active NAA at a concetration of 25 % and 75 % concentration inclined to be better toward thegrowth of Eucalyptus pellitacoppice cuttings.   Keywords: Cuttings, Coppice, Eucalyptus pellita, Naphthalene Acetic Acid(NAA)

Abstract

Kepulauan Meranti Regency is one of regency in Riau Province, that expansion of Bengkalis Regency. Wide area of Meranti Archipelago Regency is 3.707,84 km2 with forest region 345.442,42 ha. Impact of the value population growth, illegal logging, unilateral land conversion of secondary swamp forest and forest fire result pressure for forest region and wooded area that remained. Forest Management Unit Production (FMUP) Tebing Tinggi was formed base on central government policies of Kepmenhut No. SK.343/Menhut-II/2011 about Region Consisting of FMUP Model Tebing Tinggi (Unit XXIV) in Kepulauan Meranti Regency Province Riau, with wide area 69.747 ha that consist of protected forest 412 ha and limited forest production 69.335 ha. By that forming of FMUP Model Tebing Tinggi in Kepulauan Meranti Regency, should to know how public understanding of FMUP Model Tebing Tinggi existence. This research is conducted to analyze understanding level and public responses of FMUP Model Tebing Tinggi existence. Data collected by using survey method trought observation stages, interview and literature study. Analyze that used is descriptive analyze. The result of this research show that public understanding level of FMUP Model Tebing Tinggi existence still low. According responses by 78,34% public of Tanjung Darul Takzim Village and 88,34% public of Sungai Tohor Village agree if forest managed by FMUP Model Tebing Tinggi. Abstract

Sumatran Elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranusTemminck.) is the one of animals was endangered and the largest animal that still alive and could be only found on the Sumatera Island. The aim of this research was identified optimal habitat sumatran elephant in the training centre of elephant (PLG) Minas and to knews suitability between sumatran elephant habitat at the training centre of elephant (PLG) Minas with criteria habitat in the nature. Data observation and direct observation in location and interview were conducted during the research arranged into the table. Data that could not displayed in the table were be treated descriptively. The needs of elephant in the nature are influencedby shelter availability, food availability,water availability, mineral salt, home range and security comfort. Result of this research can be concluded that there it has been obtained habitat optimal sumatran elephant in the training centre of elephant (PLG) Minas is : shelter, water, mineral salt and security comfort. The suitability habitat in the training centre of elephant (PLG) Minas with criteria of natureis : shelter, water, mineral salt and security comfort, while unsuitability is : food and home range. Abstract

The sumatran elephants including herbivorous animals that require the availability of sufficient food forage habitat. The sumatran elephants also need vegetated habitat trees for supplementary food to meet the needs of the mineral calcium to strengthen bones, teeth, and tusks. Digestion is not perfect, elephants need food very much is 200-300 kg of biomass per day for each adult elephants or 5-10% of their body weight. Elephants eating behavior is very dominant behaviors performed of Sumatran elephants. The percentage difference eat elephant behavior likely influenced by body weight, gender, age, differences in habitat area, number and type of feed available. The sumatran elephants uses their trunks to pick up food, starting from choosing foods perceived with its trunk up food withdrawn or revoked then cleaned with a wave of food into the body of the elephants when it is completely clean of dirt, the elephant will start to eat the food with his mouth.Type of food usually eaten for at pasture in nature include: young leaves of various herbaceous plants wild roots and liana, young rattan and shoots rattan, bark of tree species at a sampling rate, bamboo shoots and young thorns, grass reed and all parts of wild banana.   Keywords: Behavior, Sumatran elephants, Tesso Nilo National Park

Abstract

Acacia crassicarpa is one kind of plant that was developed as industrial timber plantations. This plant has a rapid growth rate are very adaptable and tolerant of environmental conditions are extreme. Acacia crassicarpa nursery is a stretch of similar plants are very susceptible to the pests. One of the pests that often attack the young plants in the nursery is Spodoptera litura F. The efforts to control this pest is generally controlled by using chemical pesticides. The use of mahogany seed extract as a botanical pesticide for controlling Spodoptera litura F. of the Acacia crassicarpa nursery is an alternative that can be used as an environmentally friendly pesticide. This research aimed to know the potential of mahogany seed extract in controlling Spodoptera litura F. and determine the exact concentration of the level of Spodoptera litura F. mortality of the Acacia crassicarpa nursery. This research uses a Completely Randomized Design Method, which consists of 4 treatments and 4 replicates with concentration levels of botanical pesticide. T0 = concentration mahogany seed extract 0 g/l of water; T1 = 10 g/l of water; T2 = 20 g/l of water; T3 = 30 g/l of water. The results showed that the application of mahogany seed extract at the concentration of 30 g/l of water is the best concentration in controlling Spodoptera litura F. with results initial time of death fastest is 2.75 hours (2 hours 45 minutes), the fastest time of turning off 50% (LT50) is 18.00 hours and total mortality amounted to 72.50%. Keywords: Acacia crassicarpa, Spodoptera litura F., mahogany seed, botanical pesticide

Abstract

The process of increasing temperature in the atmosphere or global warming is a climate change that has always been environmental problems. Related to the phenomenon of climate change, plants have an important role because it can absorb and store carbon as biomass through sequestration mechanism. Pekanbaru is a tropical city and it has temperature is high. The forest city areas as a green open space has a very large role in lowering the air temperature and tackling global warming. This research aimed to estimate the magnitude of the potential of biomass carbon in the area of forest city in ​​Pekanbaru. The result of this research is expected data the magnitude of potential carbon content above ground level on the forest. This research only measured the carbon content above ground level of poles and tree stands. Measures of conducted the measurement of Diameter Breast Height (DBH) and the identification of tree species. The results showed the magnitude of the potential of biomass carbon in the areas of forest city in Pekanbaru is 59.929 tons / ha or 366.166 tons when extrapolated to the total area of forest city Pekanbaru is ​​6.11 ha. Abstract

Sarunei is traditional music instrument on Simalungun regency that usually used at Simalungun traditional’s ceremony. This research was aimed to determine what kind of wood’s criteria that community wants as sarunei material in Raya subdistrict. The method used descriptive with quantitative data, through questionnaires and interviews to community of Raya subdistrict determined through snowball sampling. The results of this research indicate that there are 4 wood’s plant that used as sarunei material, such as Codiaeum variegatum BL., Diospyros dalech. ex L., Senna siamea and Solanum torvum. The wood’s priority that community used in Raya subdistrict is Codiaeum variegatum BL. Wood’s criteria that used to sarunei production is a plant that have height ≥2 m, ≥1,8 m diameter, 28-32 cm as wood’s length and straightness level 100%. Abstract

Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk. in trade name of the wood product (incense) results by few of tree species that resulting agarwood. In few of international tend, this product known as agarwood, aloeswood or oudh. Cultivation of Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk. is the most important thing to did for conserve this type. Agarwood is Not Wood of Forest Product (NWFP) that has high economic value so plants of agarwood should be expanded, but in Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk.  plants cultivation not easy to did, therefore for the growing must gived treatment by giving PGR, so that plant grows be better. Therefore need to know better types of PGR for growth of Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk.  at  seedling stage by different PGR giving. The aims of research is knowing Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk.  seedling by various types of plant growth regulator. This research used Completely Randomize Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments with 3 repetitions, for each respective unit consist of 10 seedling, so total of all experiment unit is 120. Observation data analyzed by variance analyze if showed real effect or very real effect to be continued by the Smallest Real Test (SRL) 5%. Plant Growth Regulator (PGR) giving Rootone F with 750 ppm concentration results better tend to improve quality of Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk.  seedling in terms of survival percent 76,66%, high seedling added 3,06 cm, diameter seedling added 0,28 mm. Abstract

Dyera costulata Hook is one of the priority tree species that have a high enough potensial to be developed, because wood of Dyera costulata Hook has a high economic value and its existence is endangered. Based on threat category of population according to the IUCN, species of Dyera costulata Hook included in the category nearly threatened. Arboretum is one type of ex-situ conservation. Ex-situ conservation purpose is to protect and preserve the species, especially the flora and fauna that are rare. Purpose of the implementation of this study was to determine the availability, amount and dominance of Dyera costulata Hook found in the arboretum of Riau University. Techniques of data collection is done by using the census method. The results showed that there are only 3 rods Dyera costulata Hook (0,17 %) whereas 1.789 rods (99,83 %) is a type of non jelutung. INP at a rate of 0 % seedling, sapling rate of 0 %, 1,15 % for poles rate and tree level of 0 %. Keywords : inventore, rare, Dyera costulata Hook, arboretum.
