Abstract

The study was held in June-July 2014 in the east Moro Village coast. The method used was a survey method, where the data was obtained directly from the field. Observations on mangrove vegetation was done through transect line method and sample plots. The results indicated that the zoning of mangrove in Moro was complete. The study showed the existence of mangrove vegetation types from 15 species and 10 families. Mangrove vegetation comprised of R. apiculata, R. mucronata, R. stylosa, Avicennia lanata, Bruguiera gymnorhiza, Ceriops tagal, C. decandra, Sonneratia alba, Xylocarpus granatum, Lumnitzera littorea, Scyphiphora hydrophyllacea, Pandanus tectorius, Nypa fruticans, Scaevola taccada and Acrostichum speciosum. Parameter that observed from each zone is the shape of mangrove forest substrat, mangrove vegetation types and trees community. The density and zonation at each station were divided into three zones: front zone, middle zone and the rear zone, starting from the outermost point of mangrove species growth to the point of transition between sea and land. It was found that the most dominant mangrove was Rhizophora apiculata. Keywords: Mangrove, Zonation, Rhizopora apiculata, Moro

Abstract

The research on structure community of mangrove in East Moro Village District of Karimun in Riau Islands has been done in June 2014. The purpose of study was to determine the species composition and dominant species in the mangrove ecosystem of East Moro Village. The method used in the research was survey method. The stations were determined by purposive sampling in three stations. The transects were set along the 50 meters from the sea to land perpendicular coastline. The number of plots was 27 for each plot with the size of 10 x 10 m2 for tree criteria, sub-plots of 5 x 5 m2 for sapling criteria, and 2 x 2 m2 for seedlings criteria. The results of this study founded 12 species of mangrove in East Moro Village District of Karimun Riau Islands. The vegetation was dominated by species of R.apiculata with critical values ranged 125.46 to 72.29 % . The conditions of mangrove vegetation in East Moro Village was still at good condition, with the average density ranged from 3066.67 to 2922.22 Ind /ha.Keywords: East Moro village, Structure Community, Mangrove

Abstract

The research was conducted in July 2014 in Air Hitam Strait of Meranti Islands Regency of Riau Province. This research aims to analyze the concentration of nitrate and phosphate and the relationship with diatom abundance. The samples were taken from 4 stations and each station was divided into 3 sampling points. The result showed the average value of nitrate and phosphate concentration were 0.122 mg/L and 0.021 mg/L. This research identified 12 genus of diatom. The highest abundance of diatom was found in Station 3 around of the floating cage locations (162.96 Ind/L) and the lowest was at Station 4 around harbor (111.11 Ind/L). The result of the simple linear regression of nitrate and phosphate concentration showed a positive relation with diatom abundance, that means if the concentration of nitrate and phosphate are raising the diatom abundance was also increasing. Keywords: Air Hitam Strait, Nitrate, Phosphate and Diatom

Abstract

This study was conducted in July 2014 with the aim to analyze the oil content in the water and sediment in the Suir River Estuary in Meranti Islands. This study was expected to serve as the initial information about the oil content in the water and sediments and as a baseline for future research assesing marine pollution in the waters of the River Suir Estuary in Meranti Islands. The method used was a survey method. The oil content in the water was highest at Station 3 (0,15 ppm) which was located in the outer region of the Suir estuary, and the highest in the sediment was at Station 2 (1473,66 ppm) which was located in the central region of the River Suir Estuary. The lowest oil content in the water and sediments, was forward at Station 1 (0,035 ppm and 818,08 ppm), which is part of the Suir estuary. Oil content in the water did not show real relationship with the oil content in the sediment (Y = 1147 - 1493x), the coefficient of determination R2 = 0,05 and correlation coefficient r = 0,23 indicating a negative relationship. Oil content in water was lower than the value of the quality standards set by State Ministry of the Environmental Affairs (2004), the oil content in the sediment was lower than the threshold value has been determined by the National Academy of Science (2001).Keywords: Oil, Waters, Sediment, Suir, Meranti

Abstract

A study aims to understand stomach analysis of Trichogaster pectoralis present in thecanals at Tangkerang Barat District and Delima Disctrict has been conducted on February toApril 2013. Fish samples were captured using fishing rod and trawl once/week for 3 monthperiod. There were 87 fishes (32 males and 55 females) captured and TL is ranged from 113to 185 mm and BW ranged from 24 to 82.5 gr. Fish stomach was removed and stomachcontent was analyze using volumetric, occurence frequency.Stomach content of fish is related to their size. In small fish (TL less than 135 mm),the main food is plankton. In the relatively bigger fish (TL more than 135 mm) the main foodcrustacean and insect. Preponderance Index in the fish in general was Chlorophyta 26%,Cyanophyta 25%, Bacillariophyta 18%, Euglenophyta 1%, Insect 9%, and Crustacean 21%.Based on data obtained, it can be conclude that Trichogaster pectoralis is plankton feeder.Keyword : T. pectoralis, Trichogaster, Stomach Analysis,Preponderance Index.
